Kojiro freezes up slightly at the name, Fubuki. Still, he supposed it was a fitting name for such a little white creature. Fortunately, Miyako seemed to come forward and offer a friendlier side to the Dragon woman.
Hopefully traveling would be much easier now with the two women on friendlier terms.
"If Kitsuki-san's knowledge is well recommended by Kaiu-sama, then we should let her guide us in this mission."

((Rolling one extra just in case Kojiro pulls off that +1k0.))
Denbe didn't start off by trying to lead the expedition, letting the Hiruma and whomever else felt they knew the way show them. Once their trip had gotten started though, he began to find himself near the front of the group, picking his way over the mountains, easily finding slopes he could scamper up, or places he could climb. The Hare, of course, had this easier than most of the rest- he was light on his feet at the least.
Taking to the head, he found that he had more time to scout slightly ahead, judging routes, and helping Miyako or the others traverse the tougher terrain as needed. He might not have known the best route through the mountains, but he was doing his best to make the most of the way the Hiruma showed them.

[2k2 Stamina/Athletics to help out: Fail Sorry. ]Miyako, of course, was pretty much worthless in this kind of situation, so instead, she amused herself playing with Fubuki and inspecting Masuyo, determining if she was friend or Foe, eventually offering the Dragon a sweet as a peace offering.

[4k3 Stamina/Athletics w/2 raises = 21 vs TN 20 (Void Point spent for 1 free raise)] After a hearty giggle and sudden admiration for Miyako's witty kindness (as well as a happy 'Yes ma'am' in regards to watching over her precious companion), they were off. At first she concentrated her efforts on trying to explain to Kagae how she might be useful. After several attempts she settled on the excuse that, while she didn't know Crab lands specifically, they already had a map to show them where to go; it was therefore her job to show them how to get there, since Dragon lands were almost exclusively mountains and she would have a better navigational perspective. Or so the General had reasoned.
From then on it was over-achiever mode! She spent the majority of the day either right next to Denbe attempting to offer advice and insight on how the Hiruma were somehow able to glide across the difficult landscape so easily, or right next to Miyako in order to help a bit more directly through sheer stamina (whilst apparently under heavy scrutiny). In the end, however, the peace offering made it all worthwhile, and the evening saw one happy Dragon; almost childlike with her candy... at least, she would have been childlike had she not slipped off the top half of her kimono halfway through the day to show off her ornate tattoos and, inadvertently, some rather developed un-childlike features (albeit still wrapped with undergarment cloth).
In the meantime the little vulpine seemed quite convinced that the Scorpion still had more to offer, and spent a great deal of time scrutinizing her as much as she was scrutinizing mommy. Of course, then she decided to hammer the final nail into her attachment coffin by playing, and it was just all over. ...and yet, even throughout an entire day of showering affection on a new friend he still managed to be in the exact right spot at the right time, so that whenever the trailblazing Hare decided to glance nervously over his shoulder those shimmering golden eyes were there... watching.

Kojiro smiled inwardly as Miya-chan played with the little fox and went off to help trailblaze. He took out his kusarigama and used the sickle portion to clear out and mark an easier path for the group to travel along. The Scorpion worked hard and put his best into finding a trail that would give everyone the easiest time.
Kojiro also came to thoroughly understand that the paint scheme of his armor might be a bit useless during the day as he worked up sweat.

Miya's eyes widened as Masuyo stripped down, revealing the ornate tattoos and she gave her first genuine compliment. "Those are beautiful, Kitsuki-san." She reached out as if she wanted to touch them, but stopped from actually doing so.
For the first time in a long time, at least since she'd been raised among Cranes did she feel a bit like an ugly ducking and Miyako wasn't sure she liked this feeling one bit. Masuyo was not beautiful in the conventional sense, but she held herself well, which was something that both annoyed her and yet she admired the trait.

From the Dragon he'd met at the tournament, Denbe never would have expected one to bare so much skin so often. Technically he supposed what mattered was covered, but the Hare had to wonder if this was what the Tamori were like. And catch himself now and again when his eyes got stuck tracing an ornate tattoo.
That fox... wasn't much better. Staring at him oddly. Was it doing that to everyone?
Between Kojiro's trailblazing and Denbe's leading the way and helping them scramble along, they seemed to be making good time, and even Miyako was in good spirits. He only hoped the Crabs were going to be no less crabby about the whole affair.

Kagae would spend most of the day at the back of the group reading the map as they marched before suddenly stopping and calling out.
"Hey! If we go this way it is a LOT shorter!" Stated Kagae lowering the map and pointing out a route on the map even if some didn't understand hopefully Denbe would know enough to lead them through it.

Denbe came back, looking at the map and then up along the route he thought Kagae was indicating. He could get the general gist of it, but was missing something the Crab saw, so glancing at the Hiruma, he thought about it a second before nodding and starting off the new direction.
"Fantastic. Keep us on course, Kaiu-san, and I'll get us there," trusting the introverted Crab's intellect no matter how much he sometimes confused him, Denbe adjusted their route and let Kagae act as navigator while he kept the "march" organized and forging ahead to his directions.

Day 1 Results:
Rather than let the mountaineer lead the way, Denbe would find himself taking point out of habit, or perhaps from simply being too energetic. Unfortunately, that set the pace at being fairly grueling, and nearly drove Miyako to the point of exhaustion.
Kojiro kept a sharp eye out for shortcuts around any terrain that would slow them down. Whatever Denbe didn't pick up on, Kojiro caught. A type of cohesion that worked well to cut a few miles here and there off of their trip.
Masuyo, rather than playing guide as intended, ended up playing more of a role of morale support and pacesetter. Her energy was up there with Denbe's, and showed no sign of dragging her feet - an ultimatum that kept the Jade Wardens going.
Kagae may or may not have had the opportunity to visit the mountains before, but he's likely never gone THROUGH them. The elevation that the group ended at gave him quite a view of his family's holdings, seeing far into the Kaiu provinces he grew up in. Kagae may take EITHER the Way of the Land: Kaiu Lands, or Way of the Land: Twilight Mountains. Starting day 2, he will only be able to get the latter if he succeeds on this roll again.
The group travels 39 miles, over a third of the trip, in a single day!
However...
Since the group traveled more than 20 miles in a day, more food than normal will be required to keep up your strength: 0-20 miles = 1 day's worth of rations. 21-30 miles = 2 day's worth of rations. 31-40 = 3 day's worth of rations.
You can eat LESS than that, but anyone who does has to give me a Raw Stamina roll: 2 day's = TN 5, 1 day's = TN 10, and no food = TN 15. Failure to make this roll and your character gets sick.
Addendum, for Meditation (Fasting): You can roll a Void/Meditation (Fasting) roll vs TN 10 (or higher, as per Fasting rules) to ignore a days' requirement of food. So, on a day like today, you would need 2 days instead of 3 if you made the roll. You can raise to reduce the need by a further day, but the TN of the Stamina roll ALSO increases by 5.
So, if you made a TN 10 Fasting roll, you could count that as one days' worth of rations, eat 2 days' worth, and be fine.
You could make a TN 10 Fasting roll, eat one days' worth, and make a TN 5 roll.
You could make a TN 15 Fasting roll (one raise), eat one days' worth, and be fine.
You could make a TN 15 Fasting roll (one raise), and make a TN 10 stamina roll.
You could make a TN 20 Fasting roll (two raises), and be fine.
NOTE: The raises to the stamina roll apply EVEN IF YOU FAIL THE FASTING ROLL. Failure of the Fasting Roll means you are still required to eat food or suffer from starvation.
--------------------
As you set up camp probably later than you would have normally (justifying further the distance covered), the Hiruma would approach your group. "Very impressive. We were sure you would have to take twice as long to get to this point. We're going to start heading back in the morning, but we will scout first to make sure it's safe. The sightings have been of regular enough frequency as of a couple miles back," Doi would say, jutting his thumb over his shoulder. "We haven't seen nor heard any signs of other people at all today, though the Carpenter Pass is not too far ahead. We don't think the individuals we've spotted before were mere travelers, so I wouldn't pay much attention to anyone you see in the Pass."
With a pause, he would bow his head. "I know you all are exhausted, but may we take the last watch? We'll scout the area to make sure it's safe before you have to wake up and head out."

@The Twilight Mountains [and on Sparkly Vampire Watch]
Kojiro let out a huge yawn as the party reached a decent campsite. As the Hiruma let their plan be known, the Bayushi nodded his assent to it. He then entered his tent and set out a day's worth of food from his rations, and removed his mempo. With a loud "ITADAKIMASU", he ate one ration, then another ration, and then finally a third to sate his humongous hunger. Kojiro would then make sure the insides of his tent were clean and that he hadn't spilled any food on himself. Refastening his mempo, Kojiro went out to go plan things with the rest of the Jade Wardens.
"Right. How are watches going to be set up? I think between Denbe-san, Kagae-san, and myself we can handle three shifts. Kitsuki-san doubtlessly needs to commune with the kami and Shosuro-san...." Kojiro winced at the petite actress. "should probably not over exert herself in these climes. Having said that. Who wants what shift I would like either the first one or the last one, but neither of you want the middle shift, then that's fine."

Miyako gave Kojiro a half hearted glare. "I'm too tired to be angry at the comment, but I'll forgive you if you share, Kojiro-san" She grinned slightly but also leaned tiredly against the tent and continued to fan herself. "I'm just not meant for this climates."
