The peasant brothers appreciate you letting them keep their secret stash. Area Card A family of farmer brothers, letting their fields ruin to waste their days away with opium. -Rain Yupa Your fourth area has been solved, so everyone earns 1 XP! The XP logs have been updated. -------------------- With everything satisfactorily settled, the cartographers would turn northward to see what else they could find. It was still around mid-day, so there was still plenty of sunlight. As you three soon picked up the road northward once more, you would walk/ride for a little less than an hour. Most of the terrain here was pleasant, with rolling hills and trees holding promises of future cherry blossoms. Although for a while you saw no sign of civilization, you would soon come across a solitary building. Sizeable - too big to be a simple house, but not big enough to be a random inn. As you neared, however, you would see a sign hanging by the door: Benten's Fune Sake House

Chiharu was suspicious towards the lone building, it almost seemed haunted in her eyes at first. But once she was able to read the fortune's name she smiled briefly and became thoughtful:
—This is ... a lonely place for sake house, isn't it?

Ayame enjoyed the wilderness upon their departure, tame and beautiful, seemingly untouched by the war. Happy to be away from criminals. When the building came into view, long as it was before they were close enough to see what it was, her mind had plenty of time to wander.
"Mm, well, with how much farmland is in the area, this could be a crossways between various villages." she answered back, her voice betraying the skepticism she felt, surprised her guesses had been wrong. "Buuut, if they have a pair of spare rooms this could be a more comfortable place to stay the night than Efude."

@ Ayame:
The best you got is that, with the Crane clan's love of Benten, this definitely seems in place for your expectations of a Crane province. Beyond that, you've never heard of this particular sake house, but it kind of is off the beaten path.
--------------------
No one is around, and you three, of course, do not have to stop at the obvious trap sake house if you wish to keep traveling. What is the plan?

"It is," the bushi replied to the shugenja, and nodded as the Imperial spoke. "Would you care to inquire of taking out a room before we continue?" He asked, looking around. It was a nice area, and would be lovely when the blooms came- though he didn't necessarily know what kind of standards it might be up to inside. For his part, it looked nice enough that he didn't immediately see much need to do anything but include it on the map and get more comfortable accommodations.
By this point, the illicit goods were gone- unless the Imperial had a request or better idea, his preference was to tie a rock inside the small package and toss it into some body of water, or somewhere deep into the woods, where he wouldn't expect it to find purchase or be found.

Ayame nodded. It wasn't a place of any note to someone who knew everything so clearly there wouldn't be anything to learn about it, but much like staying at that hotspring she was dead set on letting the 'have the tents but don't need them' philosophy last as long as possible while they had the chance.
"Yup. Let's take a look at what it has to offer. This is Crane lands, surely they have tea alongside their sake, at the very least." she responded, dismounting Rakurai, tying him to any presumed stable posts they hopefully had available, and leading the procession inside. Though she did stop to give a little aside to Tsuyoshi on their way on. "Ah, Doji-san, don't fret too much about the contraband you collected. I plan to bring us back to Kyuden Doji either tomorrow or the next day so you can report this incident to your superiors and I can... report the attempt on my life to mine. I'm sure Domotai-san will be happy to put it to medicinal use. After the war you must still be distressingly short on painkillers. Those fields may be in rough shape but at least some convalescing Daidoji will appreciate the infraction."

Chiharu would follow the retinue, taking a few steps ahead the Imperial only to get the door for her. The shugenja quickly glanced inside and seeing no imminent danger gave way to the Miya standing a side of the Imperial's pathway.

(Not fully back yet; but using this opportunity to post as much as I can while my cat's asleep)
As Chiharu looked inside while her imperial charge was securing her horse, she would see hardly anyone in there. A lone man, who you guestimate to be in his late 20's, is behind a counter, a bored look on his face as he was placing some small object onto the surface, as if moving it from a larger pile to a smaller one.
Of course, as soon as he took note of you (only a second after you opened the door), he lit up. His head was shaved, but he was in a light blue cotton kimono - a non-farmer peasant in employ to the Crane, it looks like.
"Welcome to Benten's Fune, Doji-sama," the man would say, bowing his head to Chiharu. Stepping away from what he was doing - which, after studying it from the doorway, looked like a solitary game of mahjong - to the center area behind the counter. "How can I help-"
The man would stop suddenly as Chiharu stepped aside and Ayame entered. "O-oh! An imperial guest!" In a moment of panic, he looked to Ayame and then to his game, before dashing to it and sweeping the tiles from the countertop to the floor behind it with a series of loud clatters. Rushing around the counter, he would bow deeply in respect to the Miya. "W-welcome to my humble establishment, Miya-sama!"

Ayame marched in Empirically, ever trying to look regal despite her size. Though her composure was nearly broken when she watched the poor man rush over and knock away his leisure activity, the corner of her mouth twitching as she tried not to laugh, while her brows furrowed up somewhere akin to pity. But she composed herself quickly enough, cleared her throat and nodded. "A pleasure I'm sure. I'd like to impose upon your services. It may be a little early yet for sake, but do you have any tea? And Chiharu-san, feel free to indulge if you wish. Though perhaps not too much before we know where we're sleeping for the night, 'lest you have to walk all the way back to Efude whilst... dizzy."

There was no invitation for the other Crane to drink- not that he needed one. Tsuyoshi wasn't planning on drinking anything besides perhaps a tea of his own, though he was perhaps a little sad to see the game so abruptly put away. Oh well- they weren't here for leisure. So, he tried not to look too intimidating to their poor host as he stood by, acting the part of yojimbo behind Miya-sama and looking around the empty room.

"H-hai, Miya-sama. Right away, Miya-sama," the man would respond hastily to Ayame's request for tea, rushing to the back to start a kettle. After a few moments, he would return and bow deeply. "I'll have tea ready promptly, Miya-sama. We normally don't get imperial guests at Benten's Fune; we mostly get travels to Kyuden Doji from off the main road. The Crane established Benten's Fune as a stop along their journey to rest. We aren't a proper inn, but we do have a couple spare rooms if needed." He would promptly bow deeply once more, before returning to the back to continue making the tea.
After a short while, he would return with a tray with three cups of tea. If partaken of, Ayame would find it comparable to the tea she had access to at Toshi Ranbo, where the Crane would recognize it as the "good stuff" normally reserved for guests of high status. Likely, a Crane with some foresight decided to keep some high quality 'emergency tea' here for these such unexpected visits.

Tsuyoshi gladly took the offered cup, taking a long time to just sample the warm scent of it before taking a small sip, to find himself even more delighted. Surely, Miya-sama would also be pleased. He took another smell for good measure before setting it down for the moment. "You are most kind. Miya-sama is surveying the land for the imperial maps, so we may have need of such."
"I'm sure Benten's Fune will find itself a traveling landmark on the map." He paused, looking thoughtful for a moment, and turned to Ayame. "Assuming the scale of the maps allows for landmarks such as an esteemed travelling stop. Does it?"

The tiny Imperial nodded imperiously and moved to take a seat, perking up brightly when the man returned to reveal that there were indeed rooms, and pleased with her courtier skills in prizing the information from the man without directly asking for it. "You do~? I wouldn't want to impose, but if they're not being used tonight I would greatly appreciate it if we could stay here. It would save us a great deal of time when starting out again tomorrow."
After a day of riding around in the sun, Ayame was more than happy to sip at the tea, eyes widening for a moment in surprise at its quality. Not the best she'd had, when compared to the capital, but the Crane always did have excellent taste in teas. With her spirits lifting as they were, her answer to Tsuyoshi's speculation held the kind of delight that only a craftsman explaining her trade could achieve, "Mm, have you never seen the Imperial maps? They are a true work of wonder. What we are doing here I will use to draft a number of maps of varying scale to cover any needs a prospective mapseeker might possibly need to seek one out for. When it comes to our citizens, the Miya will spare no expense. Especially when this knowledge will go on to make every expedition, trade caravan, Emperor's Blessing, and military convoy easier, safer, and faster. Ahem... well... yes, in short, Benten's Fune will certainly be marked on several of my maps." she took another sip of tea and hummed happily. "Favorably~"

It was around this time when the door to the sake house would open, and in would walk three samurai, donning colors that immediately identify them as Scorpion. Two men, and a rather tall woman with shoulder-length hair. She had a jawline mask with two upturned tusks; one male had a whole lower face of a large snarling cat, while the other had a small mask around his left eye that extended to his ear, colored and stylized in the fashion of a blue crane, carved to emulate patterned feathers.
The two men looked to you and said nothing. The woman did not seem to notice and walked to the counter, resting her arm upon it. "Good afternoon," she'd greet him in a deep voice. "Some sake, if you will. And since we are unlikely to make it to Kyuden Doji by nightfall, if you have any spare rooms, we'd like to utilize them as well."
"H-hai, samurai-sama. The sake I can do, b-but the few rooms we have are already secured..." the peasant would say, intimidated by the woman's size.
"Ehhh? By whom?" Following the man's gaze, she would take note of the three of you. Smiling, she would push herself off the counter and walk over to the table... Before bowing deeply. The cat-faced Scorpion following would do the same, but the crane-eyed one would hesitate and promptly kicked by Cat before doing the same.
"Hello, great and honorable Miya-sama," the woman would greet. "My apologies for not greeting you at the door. The Doji have a habit of trying to overshadow those of imperial heraldry, so I failed to notice you and give you due respect upon my entrance. Please forgive my breach of etiquette."

Chiharu accepted a cup of tea but she wasn't drinking yet, the vapors of the tea were a momentary playground to the kami and the shugenja was looking quite focused on it.
The voice of the Scorpion would catch her attention and, while she did not interrupted any conversation she would bow in a polite greeting to the trio in black and red robes.
