I agree some people do have more luck when it comes to the rng xD
It seems to either really hate me or really love me at random. Never consistently or for very many weeks/ months does it keep liking me

The shop already feels really free and open.
Limit's make people more picky and it take forever to find plots if you have a special pet..and only have three chances to breed ff you become so picky it could take months or longer to even find a pet you WANT to pair them with
Experimenting sounds much more fun imo
As far as same sex goes I'd be happy either way..just want it to be less restricted : /
I hate the word natural in shops..these are pixel pets number one and number two xD if it's a world with clawed pawed and fluffy tailed horses..we left 'natural' a long time ago LOL
