Hi, i'm Gage, I've always been interested in most Japanese culture and finally persuaded my parents to get me and three friends plane tickets to Japan. I will be going there in a month and want to learn the basics of the Japanese language, although my girlfriend, who is coming with us is pretty much fluent. Non the less, I am an Otaku, one of the few Japanese words I know, thank you that is all.

Hope I wrote that right. In english, my name is Esteban, I have been teaching myself Japanese for a while now, but am still a beginner. I plan on expanding my knowledge of the language for the hopeful day I actually go to Japan.
In any case, I am new here, and wanted to say hello.

Anoo~ Please take care of me in this guild ^^. I practice Japanese mannerism, just an amateur and I dabble in Japanese. It's not going to well, it's very hard for self study. ^^; My dream is to become a manga artist and a part time chiropractor C;. Long time dream, just thought I should share.

It is very important to learn to read the characters. Learning Hiragana and Katakana does not take very long to learn so you should learn those at least. It is definitely important to learn to read characters as you are learning to speak. It isn't that difficult once you start. Hiragana and katakana should only take a few weeks each. and then learning Kanji will be a long slow process but you just have to work at it. I can't imagine many people will pity you if you can't even read hiragana and it is your own choice.

'kay. I'm done with that xD As I said up there, I'm Michelle, I'm 20 years old. I'm studying Japanese right now, but...yeah. I'm not really doing it all that seriously. Just when I can fit it into my schedule. 3nodding I'm probably about 95% self-taught...the last 5% would be the little that I learned from the (two) classes I took in college. I can read and understand a whooole lot better than I can respond back haha I need to work on that, aye.
