Passura shrugs. "My hearing is bad. I really cannot hear... or so I've been told. When you speak, I feel your words on my skin. They dance softly..." He smiles shyly. "But when you turn away or move far, I don't feel you...."

*Kero nods, swapping over to mental speech*
Very well, my son, we can converse mentally. Now, is there anything you would like to know about me, or living with me?

The youngster grows thoughtful and as he thinks his tongue flicks in and out sampling the air instinctively. After a moment or two he looks at kerobian and asks. "What will my duties be? And what should I call you?" Apparently his people all seem to have some part to take in their village life, from the very young to the very old. All share in the daily life chores. To sit idly by would be almost be sacrilegious.

*Kero chuckles*
A youngster asking to do chores...someone pinch me...we can figure out what there is to be done later, as I don't do much work with magic. I prefer to conserve my power for when I need it. You can call me Kero, unless you want to call me father, or some derivative thereof. As for chores, what say we start by having you be in charge of washing up, on the days you don't cook. I'll take care of that tonight, as you cooked us this most excellent meal. Other than that, I expect you to keep your room clean, and to help me in cleaning the main room of this cavern, sweeping out dead leaves and the like. Other than that, we'll start lessons in a couple of days, once I can gather some books and test you on what you know. Now, can I expect you to behave yourself, and stay out of trouble? I despise setting rules, honestly, and I'd simply rather know you yourself will try to stay out of trouble than me having to burden you by saying "You can't do this, and you can't do that."

Passura smiles shyly and giggles mentally. "Mama always teases me about being too responsible... but I've been singled out ever since I was born with this..." and he rubs his ebony scales sheepishly. Then his face falls once more and this time, with only Kerobian to see him, he cannot contain himself. "Mama..." he whispers in an aching mind voice, falling into a deep sad depression.

*Kero reaches over and draws the kid into a hug, letting his head rest on his shoulder*
It's okay to cry, Passura...I know what happened...and I'm here for you...

The boy crumbles against him and hugs him close. "Mama's gone... isn't she?" he sends in a tiny lost voice.

*Kero nods against him*
I'm sorry...but there was no-one there when I left...and I looked, I promise you. But I also promise you this...I'm here for you...and I won't be going anywhere.

The small serpentine doesn't actually cry, snakes don't have that ability, but he is overwhelmed with grief and he curls up against Kerobian trembling like a leaf in a storm, his mind darting off in a million tangents... a swirling cauldron of "what ifs".

*Kero is there with him through all of it, mentally and physically holding his hand, being an anchor for his soul...letting his promise fill the boy's mind as it whirls around like a carnival ride*

After what feels to the boy to be forever, but is really little more than an hour, he finds himself drained and totally exhausted. Looking up at Kerobian he yawns and asks where he should go to sleep.

*Gently, Kero carries him to his bedroom, where he tucks him in*
Unless you want to sleep with me, this room is yours, okay...even I have to knock to come in...is that alright?

Passura nods sleepily and curls up into a fetal position, yawning once more. "Good night, mes'sirrah... thank you..." he sends in a sluggish return.

*Kero smiles, and pulls out a drum, playing a gentle beat, much like that of his/Hopian's heart...and waits until he hears the youngling's breathing even out, then goes outside and begins to smelt the metals and sharpen the tools, as well as clean off the clothes and do general repair on what they salvaged*

He finds Bez hard at work. Several pots have already been scoured clean with sand and are awaiting a final rinse. He seems to be cleaning up a set for both caverns, his and Kerobian. Seeing Kero he flashes him a weak grin and continues to work in silence... almost as if he is unsure as to how to speak to him.
