again tam nods... of course... i really do think that is for the best... so why don't ye go play now, ok... and don't forget to go say hi to patch, ok... i think she was looking for you in the kitchen earlier...

tam sits on the bed opposite him and sighs...anger can do that... it makes us blind to the truth...

he thinks for a moment and says softly... i cannot control it for you kerobian... only you can... but the reason ye feel so angry is because you can feel... and feeling is good... it is only when ye become like bez and have no feelings what so ever... that is when ye truly become a monster... but how can we turn yer feelings into something ye can control...

lets think about this... i'm going to ask you some questions and make some observations... and you tell me what fits and what doesn't ok?

when hopian spanked ye... i suspect ye weren't expecting it, right... he took ye by surprise in a way... ye didn't have time to think... now that is one way to curb things... but it puts control of yer emotions in someone else's hands and that is what i'm trying to avoid...

and when ye are put in a corner ye get angry because ye feel it is unfair... so the longer ye sit there the angrier ye get... am i warm on this?

tam sighs... kero... in a way i understand... but i can't keep following ye around all yer life spanking ye when ye do something wrong... yer going to need to be able to think things through for yerself someday and that is what i'm trying to teach ye...

and i don't ever remember putting ye in the corner for forever and a day... at least not yet.. he waggles his eyebrows to make ye laugh then goes on... the idea of sitting quietly in a corner is to make you think about what ye have done... and hopefully to come up with a better solution to what put ye there in the first place... if ye truly feel i've kept ye too long, then we need to talk about this... i don't want the punishment to be unfair, but it does need to fit the circumstance... do ye understand...

if i learned anything from lyssan it was this... if i broke it, i fixed it... if i was rude, i apologized or i was ignored... if i did something they expressly told me not to do, i was sent to my room to think of why they were angry and then once i figured it out, i was to go to them and tell them why i was wrong and apologize again... i did a lot of apologizing in those first few years... seriously... but most of all they made me face the things i did wrong and think my way through them... one way or another... it wasn't quick... at times we were at odds for days... with me sulking and them being hurt... only once did ame raise his hand to me... and that was to save me from idiocy... i challenged him to a one on one combat... trust me... ye don't want to do that... he looks mellow... old.. and fun to be around.. doesn't look like he could punch his way out of a paper bag,,, but he ran me around the till until i thought me legs would fall off... taught me not to judge a book by it's cover... tam winks and spreads his hands... like ye were doing with me, heh?

kero... says tam seriously... i promised to protect ye... and if it is protecting ye from yerself that ye need... then that is what i will do... just promise me this... cut me a little slack... and i'll do the same for you.... don't ride me so hard, ok... stop testing every little thing i say and i'll give ye more freedom... i've never been a parent before... and well... i'm kind of doing this without a manual... i'm not always going to get it right... so when i do flub it up... we talk... not curse... not swear... but talk... ok? and one other thing... if ye can promise me that you will use language that is appropriate to the situation at hand... i'll stop punishing you for the occasional swear word... but i'm warning ye... do push me on this... because it is something i feel very strong about... maybe ye'd understand it better if i tell ye it is a matter of respecting the person yer talking to... would ye be happy if the one yer trying to explain something to was cursing ye out with every other word they spoke?

my word, kero... i will stop ye should the need arise... but let us pray it never happens... i will tell ye this... i was serious about being able to feel... ye just need to learn how to control those feelings... and the first step to that is... well what my foster parents taught me.. learning the why of what we do... if we understand why we feel a certain way, we can control it.. understand?... now ye need to get to bed... yer yawns are large enough to swallow me whole... come one... i'll tuck ye in... and kero... don't panic iffin ye wake up and i'm not in the room... i'm goin to go up on the roof to think for a bit... alright? tell ye what... iffin ye wake up and i'm not back and yer lonely come on up...ok?

Tam smiles and sings him a lullaby, it has words, but the language is something he has never heard before... lyrical and flowing, a language meant to be sung... and it carries kero to dreamland on gentle soft white wings

and finds himself hauled way from the man and tucked securely up under tam's arm... before kero can get his bearings, tam advises the man to get the scratch treated as quickly as he possibly can because hunting cats were notorious for having envenomed claws... and also reminds him that he triggered the attack by accosting his traveling companion, suggesting he leave them alone and to avoid any further contact with his cat...

then he sits kero back on his seat and tells him in no uncertain terms to stay put or else...
