The boy nods firmly. "I like learning, mes'sirrah... about all kinds of stuff. And... and I like books too. But what I'd like more than all is a book that teaches me how to speak like you do, sometimes you speak with other people and I don't know what you are saying, unless I listen up here..." he points to his head. "And that is not always nice." He looks at his finger tips. I know you do it sometimes to hide things from me, but other times I think you do it just because you can."

*Kero nods*
You mean like when I hiss at Em, or speak an almost fluid language with Tam? Those are called languages, Pasa...different peoples have developed different words for the same thing. Like this crystal. Called Amethyst commonly....but to other people it is called Veretasial and other things. Collections of ways to speak are called languages. With me so far?

The boy nods slowly. "kind of like nick names... people call others by different names but they mean the same person?"

*Kero nods*
Exactly. Now, each language has many different ways to say things. I will let you read many books in other languages, then come to me and learn how to speak it. Is that acceptable to you?

The boy frowns intensely. "If the book is in a different language, how will I read it... I sometimes have a hard time reading this one." he says patting the book in front of him. "It has some really hard names in it."

There are books with translation on one page, and the original on the other...or there are textbooks to teach languages...whichever you like...Pasa...that's the thing...now that you have learned to read, the only thing I am going to do is keep your basic studies on track...you can pick and choose what you want to learn, within reason.
**Just for the record...I am a firm believer in that kind of learning...I take this cartoon firmly to heart: (I have to find the comic...give me a few minutes to post it)**

The boy thinks for a bit and asks for a text book on the liquid speech he sometimes hears him speak. "I think I need to learn it from scratch, kind of like I learned this one... though I really don't know this one very well yet."
**actually learning several languages at the same time is quite possible... little children do it all the time in multilingual families**

To learn like that, you have to immerse yourself in the language...but that liquid language is known as Desert miner, and I can teach it to you directly, as I am completely fluent in it.

"Desert Miner? What are they? I know deserts are dry hot places with lots of sand and little water. One of my copy works told me that and we had miners in our village. They dug for ore to make things with. What would you mine in a desert?" says the boy eagerly, straightening up and dipping his pen into his ink. On a fresh piece of paper he begins to take notes.

*Kero smiles, transforming into his leonin form*
This is a desert miner...not the large paws and claws...we are diggers, able to burrow beneath the sands, and to a lesser degree, through the soil...I can even tunnel through rock. We are a rare breed of lion, with only about 1000 individuals alive at any given time.

The boy hops down from his stool and comes to look at him closely. "Master Hopian is a desert miner then, isn't he. Only he has white fur. A better collor for a lion who lives in hot places. Why is your tail so funny looking. The end is like a stinging bug."

*Kero gently shows him how it reflects the light*
It is a stinger, Pasa...in my rump are three venom glands, each containing a different venom. The venom travels through a thin tube in my tail to the tuft, where it gets wicked to the outside and hardens into a stinger...make sense?

The boy scratches his head, sitting back on his rump. "Kind of... lots of desert creatures have some sort of venom, but why three, can you really select which one to use and would it be contaminated by the what ever you used before?"

*Kero shakes his head* Yes...my normal venom is a sleeping venom...and my other two can contaminate it, if I use them and then it...however, my amounts of the other two are less than the amount of my first one...make sense? **I have to show you this:

The boy shakes his head no then sighs. "I don't really know why, mes'sirrah... but I'd be scared to use the one if I've ever used the others... because I think you have a nasty one too, don't you? Otherwise... why call them venoms?"
