Hm. Why wasn't Castle understanding it? It had asked a perfectly clear question. Noodle doused the embers of frustration before they could catch fire and jumped onto the new task at hand. "Nutrients are what provide the nourishment necessary for healthy growth and life maintenance," it droned. And then, an idea came to it: it had learned everything it needed through the reading of minds (and then some), and even now the two were communicating psychically. So, why had it been trying to describe itself when it could simply project?
"You are about to see an image," Noodle warned before it closed its eyes and focused solely on the bright cluster of lights that was Castle. In the future, it was sure, it would only need a fraction of this level of concentration. Mouths, humans' and pokemon's, it materialized the image instantly and clear-cut in its mind. Then, it transferred that directly into Castle's minds. "These are mouths, one of their purposes is to collect food. Do you have this?"

Even when she was in the midst of sugary overdrives, Beardia wasn't oblivious to what was going around them. She knew that another legendary had joined Castle and was conversing with it, the eggs that were hatching as fast as they were collected, and the increasing population of new hatchlings, many of whom were much larger than their companions and posed a real risk of crushing them. A change needed to be made soon, but before that, there was the small issue of the Oshawott and the forgotten egg.
"Stay here." The command was meant for all who heard it, but Beardia didn't give anyone the chance to respond to it before she had left and was back again within the space of a breath. Noah 2 and the egg-turned-hatchling he'd rescued were deposited gently onto the sand. "Are you two alright?" Beardia asked, her beard brushing against her ankles as she leaned towards Noah 2.

Cheri continued to vibrate as she enjoyed the sugary confections, unaware that she’d entered such a state. To say she had a sensitivity to sugar was probably an understatement. But Lafayette certainly wasn’t going to stop her, and neither would anyone else. She suckled the candy in her cheek, turning her attention to Cloud as he commented further on the taste.
"Fwoot?" Did it taste like fruit to her? She hadn’t eaten much to be honest, but Cheri supposed that was a fair assessment. She noticed that he was reaching out towards her, head tilting slightly in curiosity. "Sumthin’ wrong?"
Castle listened in awe as Noodle explained further what nutrients were. It made sense or sounded like something that made sense, to the various life forms that made up the ultra-beast’s existence. And then the images came, and the baby’s world was truly blown. It watched in awe as pokemon and humans engaged in the act of consumption. ’Ooh…’
’We have… holes.’ They indicated, each eye looking at another in the occupied holes. Did they count as mouths though? ’But our holes don’t look like their mouths… so we don’t know. Should we try?’ This all seemed quite safe.
Noah 2 was not prepared for the inevitable doom that would follow from failing to save the egg. Fortunately, that didn’t come. His paws lowered from his face, and he blinked, realizing that they were no longer in the water but in fact, safely back on the sand. He blinked again and looked up at Beardia in awe and then to the chippering round rodent next to him. Was that what the egg left in the lake had hatched into? It didn’t look like it could swim. Nor did it seem to realize the watery end it might’ve experienced moments before.
"Uh… uh… Yeah, I’m okay." Noah 2 finally answered, the Togedemaru continue to chirp in newborn delight, already rolling along the sands like a ball, enjoying the feel. Noah 2 watched it for a moment before looking back at the mega Alakazam. Her beard was truly amazing and the Oshawott had an intense urge to touch it and see if it was as soft as it looked. "Uh.. thank you for helping! I almost had it though!"

Cloud poked Cheri's cheek and 'ooohed' at how his arm vibrated along with her. "Yoor moven..." he pushed his candy into the pocket of his cheek. "Really fast!" he explained. He sucked back the saliva building in his mouth and sat down, though his eyes never left his friend. He'd never seen anyone move so fast while still standing still, had she received some special type of candy? "Beardia?" he twisted around to look at their chaperone and was surprised to see Noah 2 with her, along with a spiky ball baby rolling around; that looked like fun... "Yes?" The Mega pokemon's voice brought him back. "Are any of these special candies?" To Cloud's surprise, she nodded. "The ones you have are Rare Candies."
Oh! He'd knew about those, but those just made you stronger... not faster. The Togepi shifted back around to Cheri. "Cheri Berry! Do you feel any stronger?"

This was progress! Slow, fumbling progress but Noodle was starting to grow confident that, as newborns, it and Castle were gathering intelligence. "Experimentation is how we progress," it stated in answer before the Deoxys grew stock still. Its eyes drew into slits as its attention fell to the wagon and the bright lights birthed from it. One, in particular, was hauntingly familiar and set within the pokemon a sense of knowing that went deeper than any mind reading. That was what had drawn its attention, but it wasn't what kept it. There were two more: one large and one medium, both were smaller than Castle by several margins and yet it was the smaller of the two that Noodle focused on.
"Do you like fighting?" Noodle asked its companion, aware it was shifting the conversation entirely.

Beardia's beard shifted around her mouth: as magnificent as it was, one of its few fallbacks was that it hid her happier emotions. "I'm glad to hear of it," she responded and then straightened her back. She stared at Noah 2 and cast a single glance at Cheri before she nodded her head gently. Who was she to undermine the confidence of a budding hero? "I'm sure you did, just as I am sure that this young one–" she gestured to the rolling Togedemaru. "Is grateful. As am I. Thank you for going to such lengths to keep them safe."
Something close to a shudder ran down her spine and Beardia spun around to look at the wagon, then just above it to the all-black shape that hovered over it. "Oh dear..."

All this time, Blobby had been diligently continuing its duty: grabbing new eggs and moving the just hatching ones to the ground, away from the wagon and the crowd. It'd lost its coworker, Noah 2, but since he'd gone off to save another egg Blobby couldn't find any reason to complain, not that it would've; it liked having a job to do! Besides, a few of the other babies had started pitching in and given Blobby the chance to take a small breather, and take on a new form. Did she know what to call this type of pokemon? Nope! But, she had legs and longer arms, so that was all that mattered.
That was what she'd been doing when she and her crew were blinded by the light of two simultaneously hatching eggs. Blongaskhan rubbed her face only to immediately cover her ears as the black-furred ape that had hatched earlier shouted a battle cry.
"ZARUDE!" Sand and dirt went flying as the pokemon made a mad dash for the towering mass that was Regigigas. The clumsy newborn only had time to turn its face in the direction of the cry before Zarude jumped onto it, and immediately started to climb. Despite the legendary's size, the Rogue Monkey Pokemon scaled its head in a matter of seconds and used it as a launching point to reach its real target: Necrozma. In mid-air, it clasped its hands to make one giant fist and swung it down like a hammer onto its dark, helmeted head. Necrozma didn't fall, it rocketed to the ground like a meteor to shatter the ground in an explosion of sand. The smaller pokemon scattered immediately with panicked cries, while larger (and braver) ones peered anxiously over the lip of the newly created crater.

Cheri blinked staring at Cloud as he remarked that she was moving. Was she? She stared a moment longer at Cloud, beginning to realize that the outline of his figure was on the rather fuzzy side. Her gaze maneuvered down to her own fuzzy form; ah, she was moving. Vibrating even. Yes, she’d experienced this before, the last time she’d eaten something sugary. Which just meant that this was, indeed, a quality sugar treat.
"I do not. Just very awake." Cheri said, words buzzing like she was speaking through a rapidly spinning fan. She didn’t feel any stronger, but that wasn’t abnormal. "Do you?" She knew what rare candies were and considered if she ought to consume some on her end. No harm going back to Lafayette stronger than she came, right? She blinked though, her attention drawn to the commotion erupting from the arrival of more babies, her eyes immediately locking on the shiny black prism that floated nearby. She recognized that pokemon. It’d cost Lafayette his arm.
Castle’s many eyes focused on Noodle in curious awe. Experimentation? What was that? Castle took a moment to consider that the whole ‘shoving things into its eye holes’ was part of the process. The Stakalaka focused back on the bowls, considering which hole would be best to try and test when Noodle asked its odd question. ”Huh?” All its eyes redirected to Noodle once more, curiously following it’s gaze in the direction it was looking.
”We don’t… know.” Castle answered. Its response was hesitant, but not in fear or worry, but genuine uncertainty. It had just hatched was all and hadn’t had the chance. The fortress rumbled and got to its feet, shuffling a bit closer to hover near Noodle. ”Is fighting hard? Is that something we can learn as well? Like eating?”
Noah 2 puffed his cheeks in delight at the praise. He appreciated the words of encouragement for his actions; given how Cheri had all but kidnapped him and bonked him several times, it was nice to know that he was in fact, capable of doing right by someone. The Oshawott glanced at the rolling Togedemaru, gaze narrowing just a bit. ”You’re welcome!” He finally responded. Noah 2 wasn’t so sure he believed the baby appreciated the effort. But Beardia did, and that was good enough! Actually.
”Uhm… can I touch your beard?” He asked, looking up at her expectantly. He noticed her staring at the wagon though and looked that way as well, hairs on the back of his neck standing on end. Oh. That was a lot of tall babies suddenly.
An eruption of screams, scattering babies and violence of the meteor impact causing degree were enough to slightly dampen Cheri’s sugar high. Her attention shifted from the bleating Wooloo baby hiding behind a rock to the lip of the crater that had been created by the sudden show down between the rogue monkey assaulting the tall… thing.
Educated in legendries, Cheri was not. What she was educated in though, was the dangers being posed to her wagon once again. "We should probably do something about that." The Espurr stated. All this ruckus was going to mess up their plans at this rate. She made note of the commotion going on; Kangaskhan stood as a wall between some of the smaller pokemon while Pawniard inched towards the hole to see what had befallen the pair. Other babies were scattered this way and that, disturbed from their antics.
Oh, and yet another egg was choosing to hatch. What perfect timing, all around.

Cloud considered Cheri's question as he gave an experimental shake of his both arms. It wasn't significant, but Cloud felt as if his movements carried an extra set of grace. Like, he had just a hint of muscle growth and he could maneuver his body a bit better. "I do!" he proclaimed, his chest swelling with pride. And it was a good thing too because there was a sudden need for it.
He instinctively looked up when what felt like dry rain fell on Cloud's shoulders but quickly realized his attention was needed in the opposite direction: to the crater, the baby pokemon were crowding around. "Hmmmmmm," Cloud hummed thoughtfully and unwrapped another piece of candy.

Noodle pondered the question with a scrutinized gaze that never left the impromptu battlefield. "It can be," it finally answered. "I have never fought before—only those 3 have, but from what I have learned there are many factors to consider when you fight. Your strength, abilities, and experiences are critical. And it is something every creature can learn." There was also the 'unknown factor': quite literally anything could happen in a battle, so no battle was truly guaranteed. But, words were paltry, and once again Noodle chose to simply project the images into Castle's mind: hundreds of battles fought by previously wild pokemon, now captured and pacified by humans; trained pokemon against trained and wild pokemon; humans battling humans, and even the rare human against pokemon. Noodle had started with random sampling but towards the end of its mental movie screening, the Deoxys focused on the experiences of Cloud, Cheri, and Beardia. They were the most convenient source, after all.
It was pertinent information to share. Just at the wrong moment.
The only warning it received was a pulse of blue-violet aura, visible only to Noodle, as it washed over it and Castle. And then the sound of a thousand metal chalkboards being shredded open and bent exploded into their minds.
