The Galactic Chronicler

They say that the ship, immense in bulk yet swift and silent, appears in high orbit following a blinding white flash and a great crackle of energy in the heavens. It shows no outward hostility, makes no attempt at communication, and does nothing at all to disrupt daily life on the world over which it appears. It simply hovers like a sleek, silver cloud pulsing with an almost ethereal blue light across its rounded surface.

Within the halls of the great alien craft walks a solitary being. He travels the expansive archives that take up much of the ship’s insides, checking holographic data screens as information concerning the world below appears on their surfaces, before he approves their filing away into the endless sea of information he has already gathered.

Scattered eyewitness accounts have reported this being appearing away from the confines of his spacecraft: Several evacuees on Nalimir saw him, a calm, aloof expression on his blue face, among the panicked masses as they fled their planet just days before its star was to go supernova. They say his vessel disappeared into the black of space at the same time that the last of the evacuating ships left the planet.

Several naval commanders and pilots of the Altea-Skylla war reported seeing the ship lurking at the outskirts of their battlefields only to disappear in a white blur when engaged by ships from either side of the conflict. Indeed, even recovery teams sent to pick at the remains have seen him scavenging from computer archives and data cores of the dead warships.

When a Karadian hive-fleet descended upon the doomed planet of Ardus IV to consume that world’s biomass, it is said that his ship quickly appeared ahead of them only to vanish just as suddenly hours later. Though none of the primitive, planet-bound Ardusian’s survived the invasion, reports chronicling the planet’s last days later appeared in the archives of several worlds and civilizations light years away.

Speculation runs rampant as to who this silent, space-faring custodian of knowledge and galactic history is and from what corner of the galaxy he comes from. Is he an artificial life form running an unending program? A member of some intellectual and highly advanced race all but forgotten by the rest of the galaxy? A mere herald who serves some higher purpose only he is aware of?

No one can say for certain, for his patterns seem to be as chaotic and his goals as mysterious as the galaxy itself.
