Once the jet black-haired girl had arrived with her friend in tow, she glanced towards the armor guy. Huh. This was one of the lessons her father had taught her. Never judge the book by its appearance. She would never have assumed that he would be good with Iryojutsu. Most people like him would be leaning towards more of the physical talents. Also, if he doesn't know chakra, how was he able to figure out Iryojutsu. She just had to learn more about him. "Oi, Botenmaru, he hurt too." She said as she shoved Chosuke towards Botenmaru and heard Satoshi's question. "I dunno what be going on but I sure do know one thang, I be plan'in to never piss off Uzumaki-sensei ever." She grumbled under her breath and then, she had noticed the empress. She squawked rather loudly and her cheeks became red. "AI! It's Lady Unki Amano!" She said as she yanked poor chubby friend's arm and shook him a bit. "She be here!" She said once again, as a rather loud whisper, as if she wasn't in the room. She admires the woman. After hearing what had been going on. Her mother and father usually talked in the kitchen every morning about the events of Arashigakure.

tab Following Shikane's lead, Chosuke now found himself at the village's hospital, just as Nozomi had instructed them. It seemed that Satoshi and Botenmaru had already arrived and Satoshi even had his injuries taken care of. Hearing Shikane loudly announce that he was also hurt, Chosuke felt a bit embarrassed. "Ah c'mon, Shikane. It's not that bad." he protested. The real wound was to his manly pride, having let one of those hounds get a hit in on him. "It's not even bleeding anymore............mostly." he continued, his eyes falling down to the wound to his side. He had kept a hand over it the whole way to the hospital, knowing that he needed to maintain pressure, but now that he was actually getting a chance to give it a proper look, it was a rather nasty cut. The hound must have gotten him deeper than he had thought. "......But maybe I could use a bandage or something." he added softly.

"Hello Botenmaru!"
Bo-ten-maru. Oh, that name was so easy to say. He didn't really seem like one to speak too much beyond what core, necessary words were needed.
Small squid monsters and big green dogs. Did they have wings? Flying squids and dogs? "I'll have to look into it." Unki didn't shrug her shoulders. Shrugging shoulders wasn't something a confident leader should do to assure nervous youth. The woman just clasped her hands together. "I would've tried to have been more prepared if this was something in the works a-and we knew about it. " That was true too, at least. If Unki knew that toothy monsters and angry abominations were on the horizon she probably wouldn't have invested her time into chasing criminals.
"I wonder what measures are in place to get the scope on where it is this hunk o' rock is going. No one with their head screwed on right would barrel us into a monster squid and dog infested lands." Who was in charge of moving this big floating rock anyway? Toso? Who was in charge of keeping tabs on the lands below? Yeah, the village carries a clever cloud coverage disguise and hangs out way up in the sky. Who and how could someone below know exactly that this fluffy flurry of cloud was hidden village?

"Very possible this could be an inside job that has stayed under the Core's nose. If monsters appeared in the school then it might be focused by someone that wants to make trainees panic." Her thumb and forefinger took hold of her chin. "But if they seem to pose any attacks on the hospital yet if this is all posed from the inside. Maybe it is an outside attack? No one is flexing their know-how in a hospital aside from doctors and nurses. This force could be attracted to wherever it is energies run rampant almost all the time. That's my guess, at least, since we're here saying the monsters attacked the school."
"Whatever the source and reason of it all, I know a very certain someone who should be able to look into it." A few options of who that certain someone could be came to mind, actually.

Another dark haired child came hopping in through the entrance. Satoshi must have a friend-magnet under his eye-patch. The little lady was yanking around another youngster around by their arm. They were all such adventurous little ones, she thought as she took notice of the boy's injury. She pressed her hand against collar. Unki wasn't involved in such violent shenanigans as a ten year old. The young girl's excitement came nearly at no surprise but having been a while since anyone cheered out Unki's ninja name was still made her cheeks turn pink a smidgen. She gave the girl a stiff, quick but very friendly wave hello.

Oh yes, these were Nozomi's students.

Tengai never expected that he'd be meeting his fellow students or his instructor in such a place. Once the alarms stopped and the threats to the village were greatly diminished, the young boy's escort hurried to drop him off at his teacher's location as quickly as possible so that they could provide their own assistance to whatever the problem was. The tiny swordsman was okay with it, of course. With his level of temperament he'd probably be okay with most things anyone did shy of murder.

The soft tap-tap-tap of small footsteps against the hospital floors were Tengai's only introduction to the group that was slowly building in the lobby. The group was quite varied, and he could only assume that the only adult in the area was his instructor. He got there in time to see another boy holding what appeared to be a bleeding wound without much reaction to it. He knew others had spoken, but he was too preoccupied with his own thoughts to have paid much attention until then. "Ah. That looks like it hurts. You must be pretty tough." He spoke in a tone that was kind with features subtly altered with worry. It wasn't his business, but it would certainly ease his concern if the larger boy got medical attention sooner than later. The wound gave him a better idea of why he was told to meet them in the hospital as well. He just hoped that none of his other potential classmates suffered even worse damage.

He'd continue walking after that, placing his gaze on the blonde woman who stood taller than all the others. With a swift, sloppy bow that saw him all but lurching his head forwards, Tengai spoke a single word: "Sensei."

Passive Combat Benefits:
• Crashing Thunder : Augments all of the users bukijutsu, even those outside of the Raiu bloodline, with a basic amount of lightning chakra. By applying this chakra collisions result in a pressure wave similar to a thunderclap. For each rank of the technique, the pressure wave throws the opponent back five feet unless the Act of surface Walking is used at equal rank and potency to the user's parent technique.
• Green Thumb: Chiru members have a deep connection to flowering plants. This connection allows them to grow and manipulate them with simple gestures and movements, such as swiping their arm through the air or stomping their foot. Hanaton does not require hand seals and can be performed while in Sakidasu without needing to revert forms.
• Clan members gain descriptive increases in the same manner as any standard Taijutsu or Bukijutsu.
• Complex techniques performed gain the same bonuses as simple techniques.
• Lightning based techniques may be used in the same manner as Mystic Hero allows. If the user is of Mystic Hero discipline, the user's Lightning/Buki Korabo is decreased to once every two posts.

The mouse's softened facial expression remained throughout Chinchin's rant about his life and his perspective of it. He could personally relate to being 'weak'; at the bottom of the food chain. Before he came to this village, he was living with a large family that struggled to survive on the daily. As the runt, his tribulations were much greater than that of any of his family members, yet he never sought 's**t on' - as Chinchin put it - anyone. Being selfish only resulted in being cast out from the group due to limited resources. For his kind in particular, while not impossible, it was much harder to survive on your own. Cashew learned that lesson just outside of the Arashigakure gates. If it weren't for Mr. Toso, the Mouseketeer had no idea what his situation would be like right now, and he didn't want to think about it.

Unki's shouting caused Cashew's poor ears to violently twitch, but other than the gentle closing of his eyes, there wasn't much of a reaction to it. Not that it didn't hurt, because it did, but the mouse was so wrapped up in his own mind at this current point that everything else was simply out of focus. The sudden raising of heat in the room, followed by the sprinklers. Cashew reacted to none of it, his gaze remaining on Chinchin, perhaps looking through him at this point. Nozomi expressed similar emotions to that of Unki, only to quickly be replaced with a sense of urgency upon the sound of alarms.

The soaked mouse remained as Unki and Nozomi left the room. Winners? Losers? If Chinchin felt he was the winner in this situation, he'd have to do some serious convincing to make Cashew believe this was the case. In his eyes, he was the biggest loser here (at least the one who still had their arms intact). He lost his best friend Sato, who he may not ever see again. His two favorite teachers, Akina and Haruko, who are lost in some Black Village, and he is still not sure how he's going to help them, or if they'll only push him away because of his past mistakes. Cashew was beginning to believe, despite Toso's kindness in letting him return to the village, that the small bond they formed when he first arrived may be ruined by his absence during the Kogarashi war. All because he couldn't catch this banana wannabe five years ago. Chinchin's philosophy did nothing more than confuse the mouse on his moral standpoint which had been molded by his desire to help those in trouble which he cared about. Should he not have stood up for Sato during the food fight? Perhaps let him take the blame for their failed attempt at escaping detention to get to class? Minded his own business when Akina-sensei began acting strange, and just stayed out of the situation between her and Chinchin altogether? What would have happened then? Would that make Chinchin a winner? He would have more than likely got what he wanted out of the situation...

                                            Where did I go wrong?

The limbless criminal would be able to tell that the mouse was distressed by the drooping of his ears. All the people he met thus far, he considered good people. Because they treated him nicely and respectfully. Members of the APD, to him, were good people, for the righting the wrongs in within the village and established a sense of order. Their actions, by that logic were also good, but Cashew now began to wonder about the consequences of said good actions. In his case, he tried to help Akina-sensei, only to cause her to end up in some strange village 'hoeing around'. Did that make Cashew bad?

The sprinklers stopped, but the alarms still rang throughout the village. "I've lost nearly everyone I've cared about in this place, Mr. Daiyuri. Yet, you think I'm the winner? I didn't want any of this to happen. Not even what has happened to you." Cashew's focused settled back on Chinchin directly, putting on his Cavalier's hat, and wrapping the hooded cloak that hung from his back around his mousy frame. Heading towards the door, he'd glance back at the bedridden criminal, "All I want is for them to be safe." With that, he left Chinchin to his own company, dashing out of the hospital to respond to the alarm. [ Exit ]

She had been in relatively good shape since Satoshi had saved her from being damaged, though she worried greatly for her eyepatched classmate's sake. Pushing past the group of kids, hospital staff and such, Soyeon would be able to sneak her way into the room where Satoshi and Unki would be discussing things at alongside all of the other kids. "Satoshi!" she exclaimed, hurrying to his side like the natural attendant she was. His smaller classmate would waggle her sleeves at him, latching onto his wounded arms carefully. "Thank you for saving my life back there! You were so cool and strong! You too Botenmaru! Shikane! Cho...Um, Round Guy!" His name had slipped by her mind, the girl laughing nervously before propping up next to Satoshi, whistling for Yogen to come to her, if the bird was so inclined.

▱▰▱When his classmates began filing in he looked at each of them. When Shikane mentioned that Chosuke needed healing he tapped his finger on the metal of Botenmaru's armored shoulder to get his attention. Thunk, thunk, thunk He then pointed to the academy warrior Chosuke who was gruesomely bathed in the blood of his enemies. "You should use your jutsu on Chosuke too." He said to Botenmaru before turning his attention to Shikane and Chosuke. "He knows iryojutsu and healed my arm right up!" Satoshi explained to them and gave Botenmaru the credit he deserved. When Tengai stepped in Satoshi stared at him briefly to ascertain whether or not he recognized him. Another new student? Satoshi thought to himself while Tengai addressed the evidently powerful and ruthless Chosuke. His revealed eye and crow continued staring at him as Tengai respectfully spoke to the teacher before he spoke. "Hi, I'm Satoshi. What's your name?" Satoshi said to Tengai with a friendly but brief wave of his hand. He found his traditional blue kimono interesting.

Satoshi then returned his attention to Unki as she began responding to his question. "I hope you're right, Unki-sama. I think that everything happens for a reason and that this was already written to happen. We just couldn't read it. What do you think about that?" Satoshi was very curious about what she thought about this idea. Even if she disagreed with him he wanted to know her perspective on the big questions. He was cut off by Soyeon speaking up before he could say more. When she said his name he was immediately startled. When she latched onto him he became flustered and unable to speak for a few seconds. When she whistled at Yogen he shook his head. "No whistling, I'm not a dog, silly girl!" Yogen then cackled inappropriately loudly which only further compounded on the bashful Satoshi's embarrassment. "Oh, uh, you're welcome." Despite not knowing what to make of it, he enjoyed this closeness with his friend. The indigo-eyed crow then decided to forgive the girl's whistle as he lept from Satoshi's shoulder to Soyeon. Soyeon then celebrated their triumph over the monsters who attacked their school. This made him wonder where their sensei was and if she was okay.

Botenmaru responded almost instinctively to the girl who called out to him, a young dark haired girl with blue eyes. Another casualty. His eyes shifted the heavy set boy in green. He recognized him as the one who fought his way through the mob with him. He'd slammed several foe. Botenmaru nodded, moving toward Cho as Satoshi concluded the group asking for his help. With both hands over Cho, he preformed his healing techniques. This time he would diagnose the wound more thoughly, realizing how easy it would be to increase the pain he felt.

Botenmaru had almost completely tuned out the songs of praise on strength from the girl who had also been in the courtyard using forbidden fire arts. Not that he meant to ignore her. Rather, he deemed the praise unnecessary subconsciously and it had become white noise. He had however been listening to Unki. His attention turned back upon Satoshi. " I need more strength. No more injuries." he said this in a rather stern tone. This place was his chance at a second life, he wouldn't let some foreign random threat jeopardize this home. Not again.

It seemed that no one had recognized her. That was okay. Her father had warned her that sometimes, the Nara people weren't easily noticeable and can be part of the shadows even when in plain sight. The grey hues glared at her friend when he had commented that maybe he just needed a 'band-aid.' The pretty blonde lady had a conversation with Satoshi as they try to figure out what was going on. She scoffed under her breath. Why bother? She doesn't want to go to the extra mile or work to figure this out. Let the adults handle it. Her eyes glanced around for a comfortable place to hide and sleep. Another student seemed to arrive as she watched him for a moment. He doesn't seem to talk much. Good. She liked new students that were more on the quiet side so the classroom could be less loud. Speaking of loud, the girl, that was younger than them, had ran up to Satoshi and grabbed his arm as she seemed rather overly worried about him. Shikane was honestly surprised when Soyeon had called her out for being cool and strong. Her cheeks became a bit red. "Uh... thanks? Me thinks..." Shikane murmured a bit. Slowly and surely she was getting away from the group, inch by inch. Almost unnoticeable. Hmm. Maybe she should go find a healer.

Too late. It seemed that the armor guy had got right into action and healed up Chosuke. She was relieved. It seemed that Botenmaru was beating himself up slightly for not being strong enough. Shikane doesn't say anything. She was nagged by her own mother that everyone starts off weak and will get stronger over time. She would tell the armor kid but she was not that kind of person.

Let someone else do that.

tab His attention still on his wound, Chosuke was completely oblivious to the pitter-patter of little feet entering the lobby. It wasn't until the voice that accompanied them that he finally took notice of the new arrival. "Ah. That looks like it hurts. You must be pretty tough." Though he didn't want to admit it, seeing his wound had been a bit of a blow to his spirit, as most of the others didn't seem to have a scratch on them, except for Satoshi. However, hearing the young boy's words ( particularly the part about him being "tough" ), filled him with determination. "Oh yeah! A little scratch like this is nothing for a MAN like me!" proudly proclaimed, bringing his arms up to flex his biceps. Though the boy would move on to address the adult in the room, the bright smile remained on Chosuke's face and was only perpetuated by the addition of Sonyeon's compliments ( even if she did refer to him as "round guy" ). "Oh yeah! Monsters better think twice next time before invading our village!" he boldly declared, adding to Sonyeon's own cheer as he threw both his of fists into the air triumphantly.

tab Unfortunately, caught up in the excitement of their victory, bringing up the hand that he had been holding over his wound stretched his side, causing a surge of pain from his wound. Wincing, he quickly brought his hand back down to cover the wound once more. He definitely needed to take care of this thing. Thankfully, Botenmaru was there to lend him a hand. Heeding the suggestions of both Shikane and Satoshi, Chosuke removed his own hand and held it above his head to give the armor-clad boy space to work. With the wound being quite fresh, it was tinder and Chosuke had to stifle his discomfort as Botenmaru examined it. However, it wasn't too long after the boy began massaging his wound that Chosuke would begin to feel a sense of relief. When it was all said and done, he felt good as new, like the wound had never even happened. "Woah! That's amazing! I don't feel a thing anymore! Thanks man! he stated enthusiastically, giving Botenmaru an energetic thumbs up.

tab With his wound tended to and Botenmaru having moved on to speak with Satoshi, Chosuke was finally able to address the most pressing matter of his post-battle recovery, his stomach. Though he could certainly use a shower, still being covered in quite a bit of blood from all the monsters he had crushed, his rampant appetite had to take priority. If he waited any longer, he feared his stomach might commit mutiny and start eating the rest of his body. Thankfully, he still had all the protein bars he had snagged from Nozomi-sensei's desk before the battle began. As he pulled one from his pocket, he found that it had gotten a bit dinged up in the battle but that didn't bother Chosuke. After all, it didn't change the taste, as he soon confirmed when he opened the packaging and shoved the bar into his mouth. "Mmmmm."

tab As Chosuke happily munched away at his collection of protein bars, he couldn't help but notice that Shikane had managed to slink off without his notice. He was pretty sure that she hadn't taken any damage during the fight but he still wanted to check in on her now that he was all patched up. Besides, even if she wasn't hurt, surely she could use a snack because, well, who didn't like a nice "post-monster-fight" snack? Giving the room a quick scan, he was easily able to locate her and made his way over to her. "Mwant Mwun?" he asked her. His words were rather muffled by his mouthful of food but hopefully she'd get his message regardless as he held out a selection of protein bars out to her. The majority of them looked crooked and smooshed but there were at least one or two of them among the group in fine condition, should she prefer those.

Before she knew it there were two more children! Where did all these kids come from? Oh, wait. That's right. Nevermind. How many students were enrolled as of late? Energetic children, quiet children, and then ones seemingly ready to test her with all the life's questions. Even children ready to call her ”teacher” much to Unki’s surprise. She was the adult hovering about with a ninja-like outfit and being the ONLY adult must have suddenly plopped her with the honored title of teacher. Face it. Unki was more likely to have someone call her a sensei before ever being called 'Mrs. Chosokabe' or something. None the less, the title was a genuine award from a bright-eyed youngster made her heart melt a little. She was so tempted to just pat the child’s little blue head of hair. "Ooh..." Unki couldn't find the words to disappoint the little blue boy. Her melted heart left her smiling a big, squiggly-like smile.
Your new friends are just so charming, Satoshi.” With her composure back Unki happily chirps the only words she could say about the group. She cautiously inched her hand forward and tried to delicately pinch the cheek of the spry little girl who popped up beside him. Whether her attempt of a sly cheek pinch failure or success, Unki would cup her palm to her own cheek as a smile forms upon her face Her smile was arguably nothing more than just a sure-fire swell of pride that these were the new faces to spring forth from the ashes of war. A tinge of sadness in her smile was swamped by the pride and energy and out weighed the heavyhearted truth. These aspiring fighters of the Storm were so young in contrast to her history. Where was the leisure in being a kid in-training to learn the art of killing? She could find regret in her lack of control of the hidden Storm but changing up the flow of things was out of hands from the beginning.
Satoshi's reply to her response pulled Unki out of her wistful daydreaming. She had a look of thought briefly and moved her arms to align her hands with her waist. "Sounds like a real page turner when you look at it that way. Everything already written, hmm? Unki smiled at her little play of words. If someone that one flare up of anger would eventually name her an authoritative figure of a whole empire then she might have played her cards differently.
I like the thought that nothing's written until you write it. All the strength you see your self learning? Who writes it, yeah? All the injuries you might try to foresee and plan for- you could write for those too- but they're worth learning from. You probably wouldn't believe where my story started off at! Now. Uh-uhm. I'm clearly rambling!" She smiles again and cuts off the start of a giggle as her wrist quickly whisks around her vest collar and plucks a long, lavish fan from hiding. A bizarre spot to hide it, honestly.
" Let me see, let me see, before I keep on rambling!" She began to tap her fan to her chin. It was inevitable that her focus would have to come to the names she was literally learning left and right. As their superior Unki actually felt a more than a little obligated to repeat their names as she could get names to faces. Children usually liked a little acknowledgement after all. "Shikane. Cho. Hmm. Chosuke! Botenmaru! Satoshi, of course. "
“Would you tell me your names?” She asks, ever so sweetly, giving a chipper little look to the little blue children, the jumpy little girl and the boy who called her sensei.

"At least you are all safe." Her voice was relieved as she checked on Satoshi and Chosuke, the two she knew that got injured. They seemed to be fine. With a breath of relief, her dark brown hues glared at the blonde female before them. It was such a glare that had many words but nothing came out. Nozomi was not going to say what she wanted to say, certainly not in front of her students. Her eyes removed from the Empress as she glanced towards the children and squatted in front of the group. Oh? There was a new student, blue hair. That's right! He was supposed to be here. Oh, thank the ocean that he was here, safe and sound. She can't remember his name. "Hello. I'm Nozomi Uzumaki." With a warm smile, she gently grabbed Soyeon and pulled her into a hug. She was the only student that didn't mind hugs. "I need to talk to you all. And no, you are not in trouble." She added, wanted to give relief to her students. "That was very brave what you guys did. And idiotic." She sighed softly as she wondered if they will take her advice or not. After all, some people can't learn until it hit them right in the gut and severed their limbs. "There are some battles that we can take. And there are some that we will have to run away from and it's okay. There's no shame in running away from a battle. Know why?" She smiled softly, her dark brown hues were changing into honey gold. "Because you can come back stronger. It can be training, or even better, teammates. You all did well. I will talk to the Arashikage and see if you can all be promoted. Do not fret. You will get stronger. Watch each other backs. Be careful who you trust." She added as she stood up, letting go of Soyeon and sighed softly. "I sure do wish to figure out why there were these odd attacks..." She murmured under her breath. Thinking for a bit, she nodded, "Alright, I'll give you guys a few choices. You can come with me to the Arashikage's office so I can keep an eye on you guys or you can stay here in the hospital, help out a bit, it seems the hospital is a bit safer than the other areas at the moment, or, and I do not suggest this but I've learned nothing is stopping you guys, just like I was when I was young, you can travel in teams to check out the rest of the village." Her hues glanced towards Unki, "Perhaps you can be some of help or did you have something else in mind?" It seemed that her harsh glare from earlier was mostly gone. Right now, her focus was on her students than the a*****e criminal.

Through the short passage of time the group had seemed to survive rather uninjured overall. Botenmaru would sigh with relief that his comrades hadn't fallen. He lingered silently as he observed the bunch. Unki was acquainting herself with all the children in the village it seemed. A familiar voice made itself known shortly after as the instructor Nozomi appeared. She rounded her students up, expressing her concern that they were safe. Botenmaru was taken back by this. 'Master beat me if I disobeyed orders...what is this woman thinking? How else do they learn from the mistakes of breaking command?' He thought. Not that the beatings stopped him from acting, they merely forced him to understand the consequences of his actions. Finally, the teacher told them that it was okay to lose. " Weakness is not rewarded outside these walls." Botenmaru spoke coldly. It was the most he had said in his entire stay in the village at once. His blood was boiling beneath his steel clad attire. His value system that was pounded into him at the Order's Academy was being discarded by these actions. His armor made a creaking noise as his fist balled mid turn as he walked away. His strides were clanking louder than usual as he moved aggressively toward the exit of the building. " Slay evil. Become Strong. "

He knew not exactly his destination, only that he needed to become strong before accepting any promotion. What nonsense. Botenmaru had seen death, massacre, war. He knew that these children weren't ready to enter that world. He wasn't either, but fate had dealt that hand long ago. He would not add to the rank and file of walking corpses these untrained students would soon be if released. The doors of the facility slid closed behind him as he moved further from reach.

Kimono sleeves sweeping through the air, Kagerou strode through the front doors of the hospital. She gave the receptionists a wave on her way through, and greeted the other employees she passed. The hospital was busy, the kunoichi noticed, but it was something she expected.. She had just strode past a whole series of destroyed parts of town, some where shinobi were still fighting to clean up the few monsters left behind. However, the situation seemed to be under control out there. In here? Slightly less so. Forget finding an oncologist for Maeko, Kagerou needed to help with these emergency cases instead.

She made a turn to the emergency room, but was stopped by one of the receptionists she had just greeted shouting her name.

"Kagerou!" the bespectacled receptionist called as he briskly walked over, waving her down.

Kagerou turned to look behind her, acknowledging the other by replying, "James?".

Business as usual, James briskly explained, "They're staffed well enough in there. Meanwhile, you've got mail," as he bluntly proceeded to detail how she had a messenger bird in her office. As soon as he was done, he turned around and returned to his position.

The message was loud and clear. Deal with the bird first before helping the patients. Kagerou smiled, uncertain. She looked to the emergency room. In her scarlet eyes, it was clear that she felt her place was there instead of the office. When she brought her eyes forward again, though, she was greeted with the sight of James, leaning over the desk, and staring at her with the meanest look she knew he could muster. She gave a little laugh at his attempt to intimidate her and waved him back into his seat. She could guess why he was adamant she get to the bird in her office, or rather, get to her office in general. She probably had a towering stack of patients' and administrative reports to deal with there from the past few days she had been out of office.

Walking into her office, Kagerou got to confirm her guess. There was quite the several stacks of paperwork on her desk. Upon the coffee table, there sat an albino hawk upon a towel that was thoughtfully spread out for it so it wouldn't soil the furniture. Recognition and then joy lit up Kagerou's features, despite the hawk's cry of indignation for being kept waiting for so long, as she bee-lined to the bird of prey and untied the letter from its talon. For its hard work and infinite patience, she retrieved a piece of raw meat from her fuuin storage, she always kept a few for Sonyo's carnivorous pet, and tossed it to the beautiful bird.

As the hawk enjoyed its treat, Kagerou lounged upon the couch and unsealed the letter.

Takeda's Letter
Kagerou.

I'd say sorry for not getting in contact with you for so long, but it was all because of circumstances out of my control. I still can't believe how long it's been. This is Takeda. You know - traveled around with a big sword and got into a lot of trouble? Yeah. It's been a long time, so if you've moved on from the Shinobi life and settled down or something like that, you can ignore this.

Still reading? Actually, you've always been pretty nosy so you'd have probably kept at it regardless of your situation. Normally nosy people are annoying, but I think it's different if you do it because you care. Why you care is beyond me, but I still don't hate it. Anyways, what I'm going to say next is probably going to worry you, but I don't want to leave you in the dark forever.

It's been bad for me. I've been broken down to my lowest, and there was no way anyone could have saved me. When we meet and you ask me what happened, I'll tell you. For now I want to grow stronger. I want to be more than I am now before I meet you or anyone else from Kirigakure. Please, don't look for me. Just know I'm around and that I'll come when I'm ready.

[there's several darkened spots on the page, as if something were written and removed a few times. As if he'd written more than he felt he needed to and decided that something long-winded would give the wrong impression. Finally, on the bottom of the page, the letter continues.]

I care too.

She read it once, twice, three times, before setting the letter down in front of her to muse at it from a distance. Her expression was complicated, as were her feelings, but when she leaned over to brush a finger against one of the darkened spots upon the letter, she was smiling, gently and fondly. Takeda was alive, at least, and he found it in his heart(s) to write to her, so that meant he was alright. If he had been under Sonyo's care, then she knew that he would only be released after he was able to fend for himself.

Nonetheless, the memories and shouting echoed in Kagerou's head.
"ABANDONING ME"
"Look at what you’ve made me in to Kagerou"
Had she failed yet another friend? Would Takeda really be alright? Did she have any right anymore to care? He said he couldn't have been saved, which meant there was something he had needed saving from, just like when Severin had been locked within the Sero, and just like Severin, she had abandoned him to whatever it was with excuses and l-

Kagerou flicked her wrist, punctuating her string of thoughts with the sharp ringing of bells before it grew out of control. She could call them excuses, perhaps, but she would be lying to herself if she said they were lies. Her mistakes, they were definitely. If she had only trained her sensory abilities by then instead of waiting until after, then maybe she would have found Severin in the Sero. If only she was stronger, then she wouldn't have needed to accept his "death." If maybe, instead of trying to so hard to help those from Kiri integrate into Arashi, she had dropped her responsibilities and went searching for those she cared for, then Takeda wouldn't have been broken so low that he was ashamed to show his face in front of her and her family would be together. However, she couldn't let her thoughts spiral so far out that she began to blame and hate herself for false crimes.

A slender finger underlined the final line as Kagerou's thoughts returned from the past to the present and future. Unlike Severin, it did not look like Takeda had blamed her. Was he worried about her feelings? He really was as cute as his nickname. Therefore, the question now was whether she should respect Takeda's wishes or, so that it would not become an excuse in the future, if she should search for him now. She felt like she needed some time to think on this.

Interestingly, considering this was Sonyo's pet hawk, there was nothing from Sonyo. No word or any indication that Sonyo had been the one to send it. Kagerou looked to the diligent messenger, gave it a pat on the head, and whispered to it as if it was able to understand her, "Looks like my friend swore your owner into silence, hm?". The beady pink eyes looked up at her, and she swore it was tapping its talons to tell her to hurry up and give it a response letter. Kagerou chuckled, told the bird, "Fine, fine," and moved over to her desk, Takeda's letter in hand one moment than disappeared into her storage space the next.

Opening a hidden drawer on the music stand that held the Arashikage's communication scroll, she revealed a few other such scrolls. She glanced through each, nothing to note except an emergency alert from OASIS. To her relief and worry, there was nothing from her clan. The last message on it was still the reminder of the latest mission she had accepted, a message she knew by heart. By this time, Yuki Onna would have responded to the call from OASIS. Her smile faded and her eyes grew heavy as she thought about the timing of this alert and Takeda's letter. Then she closed the hidden drawers and sat at her desk. In a few minutes, she jotted down a quick reply to give to the hawk.

Letter to Sonyo
Dearest Friend,

I hope you have been well. The weather here in Arashi is chilly as always, considering how high above the ground we fly. We've recently changed locations, moving to Astoria, which actually puts us closer to OASIS than before. If you do decide to take this opportunity to visit, however, I would highly recommend bringing sunscreen. Our elevated proximity to the sun leaves us more exposed to its radiation.

As always, things are exciting here. Why, just earlier today, the sirens went off and I saw a bunch of shinobi attacking what appeared to be a giant lobster on my way to the hospital from prison. I am not sure of the details, but seeing how promptly things were cleaned up after the sirens went off, I do not think it something to be concerned about. I was even shooed away from the emergency room when I tried to help the patients there and forced to come up to my room to deal with the towering paperwork... You would think that they would overwork a talent like mine healing people 24/7, but no. I swear instead I'm doing paperwork 24/7. Ah, woe is me~ Though, I've already bemoaned as such to you plenty of times, so this is merely old news.

I hope you, OASIS, and Lohner are all doing well, but mostly you. Remember, take care of your health, Sonyo. This world is a better place with you in it.

Love,

You know who.

P.S. The beaches of Astoria are dotted with pretty seashells galore. I'll bring some over for you to see by the end of next week. Look forward to it and make sure to take this opportunity to slack some on your paperwork.

She did not mention Takeda in the letter. She did not want to put Sonyo in a tight spot. Though, she could not resist taking this opportunity to give Sonyo something to look forward to.

Would she come to regret not chasing after him immediately? From what she read in his letter, it seemed like he was still that lost boy from when he was younger. Though, she didn't think she had any answers for him. She could still trust Takeda to survive whatever is thrown at him, right? Like she had done in the past? That wasn't neglecting her responsibilities as a friend, was it? Was "he'll be alright" just another version of "he's probably dead"? What... was the right way to protect those you loved?

She needed a shift in topic. "By the end of next week, huh?" Kagerou thought to herself as she tied the letter to the hawk. She would need to free up her schedule around then, and that would have to start right now. Kagerou smiled ruefully at her piles of forms, proposals, patient logs, and medical journals. No time for self doubts. No time to worry in circles. Faster. Sharper. Deadlines were approaching, and she could aspire to no less than perfection.

User Image"Marie, can you gather medical journals on brain tumors for me?" Kagerou's voice cheerfully rang out without the speaker looking up from the reports their eyes and hands whizzed through. It had been quite some time since Kagerou had sent out the messenger hawk, and she had gone through quite the few papers in that time.

Marie, the preciously sweet new intern, stopped halfway through the door, not sure what she should be more surprised at, that the surgeon general knew her name, the surgeon general knew who she was without looking up, or the speed that the surgeon general was going through the paperwork. She had seen Kagerou at work before, yes. That she met Kagerou in this office prior is the reason why Kagerou recognized the sound the door made when it clicked open. Though, she had never quite seen Kagerou in a rush before.

She had promised Sonyo a meeting without really thinking ahead for it. She had a new patient incoming and had just realized that Arashigakure actually didn't have a brain cancer specialist. She also realized that she should probably make Nozomi something for dinner and leave it in her office for her to take home because this attack was probably making this whole day hectic for the academy principal. That, in turn, gave Kagerou the brilliant idea that she should totally do the same for Takeda even if she was going to give him the distance he asked for. She just needed to find him first, which was a whole other series of tasks.

"Y-yes!" Marie chirped obediently as she set down a new stack of papers as well as a thermos on Kagerou's desk, "James told me to bring these up to you. Ah, but don't tell him I said that. The only thing I'm supposed to say about him is that he wants to know when you'll be finished with the budget approvals, specifically adding in that he doesn't have all day and would rather like to go home on time."

Kagerou smirked as she paused in her writing to motion to a set of papers placed on the coffee table, "I figured as much. You can find what he wants there."

In a happy rush, Marie went over to pick up the stack and left with a hurried, "Thank you!~" only to pop her head back in for one last thing, "Oh, and also, the thermos has some barley tea from the break room so that, per James, you don't have any excuse to dilly dally and chit chat when you're supposed to be working. And also, I'll be back with the medical journals soon." Following that, she really was gone for good. Well, at least until she came back with the requested journals.

After Marie disappeared, Kagerou finished the document she was working on and eyed the barley tea. After a moment's consideration, she opened and took a sip of the pleasantly warm liquid as she surveyed the paperwork finished and the paperwork left. "There really is a lot, even if I account for how I'm not in the office everyday," she silently appraised, "I might be okay with it, but I don't know if my successor will be..." As she thought, her eyes fell onto a particularly large document that she had not finalized yet. It was that time, yet again, for someone to put in a request for changes to their department's staffing. This time, it was the psychiatry department. Kagerou picked up the stack of papers and mulled over it for a moment. Now that she thought about it, maybe it was time for a larger scale restructuring? Her eyes trailed across all of her paperwork and wondered how much of it she could reduce if she was willing to decentralize the hospital affairs. It probably would be for the best, too, for budgeting to be left more in the hands of human resources, separate divisions to be given more power over item orders, and so on and so forth.

When Marie next came in with the requested medical journals, Kagerou, back to work on her work, had some bad news for her to relay to James. "Marie," the doctor said ever so pleasantly, "Please let James know that I will probably need him to stay late today."

"Oh!" Marie responded, chipper as ever, "He's not going to like that! I think the other interns and I might hold bets to see if he's going to take his revenge on your tea like he did the last time. You will let us know, right?"

Kagerou was not ashamed to admit that Marie's honesty brought a laugh to her smile. "Ahaha. I will, so you guys go ahead and do that," she indulged the teen that was already leaving. "I am sorry, James," Kagerou repented internally, smiling even as she already imagined how he was going to stomp right into her office and give her an earful about the terrifying monster that was overtime and how it wasn't good to overwork the employees, "but I'm going to have to drag you down with me this time." The administrative whiz refused a promotion because of all of the extra work it would entail, but he still couldn't say no. He knew this hospital, arguably, even better than Kagerou did. If she was going to try and rearrange its administrative structure, then she was going to need his expertise.

Man, her memory must have gotten really good lately. It was almost like she could hear stomping right outside her door, and she wasn't even trying. She even could see James slam open the poor wooden structure as if he was right in front of her.

Wait... He was right in front of her, and without even a pause to give Kagerou room to explain, he was full force into his rant against overtime. Kagerou smiled against his tirade, but she also knew it was not something she had the power to stop.

Thirty. Minutes. Later.

Finally, after half an hour of nonstop, James was finished with his rant and Kagerou was finished with the paperwork she had continued as James ranged. He and Kagerou finally started talking some sense.

The clearly annoyed receptionist/everything else asked through gritted teeth, "So tell me, why are you deciding to finally act like a surgeon general now?"

Kagerou, trying to defend herself on what flimsy ground she had, reasoned, "To be fair, I've always done my job. I've just... let it go on auto pilot for a while, so it makes sense now that I want to streamline auto piloting it, right?".

The haggard hospital employee looked down at his boss of nearly five years and sighed, "Neither you nor I need to waste our time with this restructuring for your successor. If they do their job properly, unlike you, then they won't be slammed with papers every time they come into the office."

"But will they be able to do their job properly?" Kagerou asked her rhetorical question with a smile, "All major candidates are shinobi. I tried really hard for a non-shinobi, but unfortunately, it's really hard to genuinely pull a non-shinobi from a list of medical specialist shinobi candidates without an immensely good reason due to the sheer potency of iryojutsu. Because the next surgeon general will likely be a shinobi, they will also have something of a split life between the hospital and whatever shinobi tasks shinobi do, and you know, you can't ask most people to devote almost every waking moment of their lives to work like you can with me."

"Paperwork is authority," James argued back, "If they just pass the paperwork on to someone else, then they lose the chance to veto or otherwise alter a decision."

To which, Kagerou nodded with a smile, and then counter argued, "True, but at the same time, do I really need to sign off on every medical mission turned in by the shinobi who come to work here sporadically?"

Unflinchingly and without hesitation, a firm, "Yes."

An admonishing, "James."

Finally, the other side relented with a sigh, rolling his eyes and meeting in the middle, which was what Kagerou had hoped for all along, "Fine. Since I don't want to stay here all night, I agree with you. Let's find a balance, see what we need to cut out but also make sure nothing necessary is cut out."

"Good. We can start with organizing and standardizing missions," Kagerou suggested as she pulled out a blank piece of paper.

OOC TO-DO LIST
COMPLETE

User ImageApo Joi
Position: Receptionist/Front Desk
Gender: Male
Age: NPC
Classes: n/a
Bloodline: n/a
Rank: Civilian
[ Calm, bright, and welcoming, Apo is the first face in the hospital that most visitors see. Hard to tilt and even harder to freak out, he will politely greet everyone who walks in through the door with a level-head, whether they are spitting insults at him or being rushed in with a lost limb, and answer any questions they may have or direct them to where they can find answers if he doesn't have it. When they leave, he will just as politely bid farewell, "Hope to see you again." Of course, in the most innocuous way possible. He just wants anyone who leaves to feel welcome to come to the hospital should they ever have something that ails them. Apo, being the receptionist, also handles anything to do with the hospital mission board and has the authority to hand out missions. He is, when necessary, a skilled Nurse and Emergency practitioner, but prefers his front desk job, believing it as important to make sure that all of the organization is neat and tidy as it is to tend to the sick and injured. ]

User ImageGabrielle Angel
Position: General Doctor
Gender: Female
Age: ???
Classes: Worker/Worker
Bloodline: n/a
Rank: Civilian
[ One does not ask for a lady's age, not if they want to wake up alive the next morning. This philosophy shall be practiced with utmost care in the presence of Dr. Angel, as should the utterance of her first name be refrained from at all costs. Far older than she looks and mature, Dr. Angel is a specialist in all medical fields, has been for at least two hospitals: Arashigakure's and Kirigakure's. She has been conscious and lucid for all of Kirigakure's shenanigans, so she has seen stuff go down. She has the scariest smile in the hospital, but otherwise, her manner of acting often depends on who she's speaking with. She is doting to the cute Marie. Confrontational with the equally severe James. Generally, with any medical worker of at least B-rank or Assistant title, she is constantly demanding more and better, shelling out criticisms far more than compliments, but when she does give a compliment, then damn, does it feel good. Something to note in case of attack is that, while Dr. Angel is just a civilian with no military or combat training, she is as skilled with poisons as she is with medicines. ]

User ImageJames Hyuuga
Position: Head of Administration
Gender: Male
Age: NPC
Classes: ???
Bloodline: Hyuuga
Rank: NPC
[ Stern, severe, and the sharpest tongued pushover anyone will ever meet. Don't be fooled by his outwards ice cold demeanor, James is well known by the rest of the hospital as the nicest No-Man who will go and do what was asked of him anyways. The only thing he doesn't do is reveal information on anything or anyone. He works hard to keep the hospital running and operating smoothly and despite being the crochety old man of not just his department but the entire hospital, he has the respect and often support of most of the hospital. Hates overtime, but will do it anyways if you can get through his thirty minute rant every time it's brought up. Takes care of everyone and makes sure they're all well hydrated and fed, earning him the title of "Hospital Mom" much to his displeasure. Well, it's the first reason why he has the moniker. The second is his Byakugan, which he uses liberally to keep order in the hospital and also to help find any items misplaced by the other employees. ]

User ImageMarie Jane
Position: Nurse
Gender: Female
Age: NPC
Classes: n/a
Bloodline: n/a
Rank: Civilian
[ Poppy, bubbly, and just a ray of sunshine in anyone's day. Not her fault if some people find the light blinding and annoying. What you see of Marie is what you get, a genuinely good person who can be, at times, too overbearing. She runs her mouth off at most opportunities, but knows enough to keep it shut when appropriate. Similarly, while usually casual, she knows who and how to show respect. She is young, full of life, and supportive. Just don't tell her any secrets. She runs her mile off at a mile a minute and doesn't think before she speaks. Her lips are loose with the most innocent intentions. However, despite her flaws and ditzy blonde personality, she's showed a rare brilliance, quickly ascending from civilian internship to one of the most called on nurses. Her open availability, treatment of work was life, and knack for studying has made her one of those very rare nurses that actually work in all departments of the hospital rather than one, and a relatively common face in all of those departments, too. ]

User ImageXiao-Zin Chen
Position: Medical Assistant
Gender: Male
Age: NPC
Classes: Buki/Buki
Bloodline: n/a
Rank: NPC
[ Tough, scruffy, and a gentle giant. He is a mercenary who retired after the Kogarashi War and settled in Arashi after being tended back to health by their medics. Since then, Xiao-Zin has made Arashigakure his home and his personal retirement mission to keep the hospital safe as a means of repaying the kindness of the Arashi doctors, nurses, and medical staff for taking care of him. Though this old man may be an old dog, he can certainly learn new tricks, and he knows enough to be a passably good medical assistant. Though he laughs too loud, pats backs too hard, and drinks too much, he's nonetheless a welcome addition to the hospital and usually the first person people call if they ever need any physical muscle or just some solid advice from someone who's lived and seen plenty to tell. If there's any heavy lifting to be done or a patient to hold down, he's there to help. Otherwise, he's usually milling about doing tasks like any other medical assistants. ]

Pharmocology/Toxicology Laboratory Research
Rank: Varies
Using the hospital's laboratories, the aspiring pharmacist/toxicologist creates a potion/toxin that is not on Arashigakure's list of patents. Treat this as a smithing mission of the appropriate rank with a few differences. A botany kit is not expended, a ryo reward is given, and the created potion/toxin is recorded in detail on Arashigakure's patent list, available for purchase and/or recreation by those with the appropriate permissions from the Arashikage.
Restrictions: Can only be claimed the first time an item is made and recorded in Arashigakure's list of patents.
Extra Rewards: Appropriate kit is provided and ryo reward equivalent to rank is given in addition to item.

Assist the Hospital: Emergency Treatment
Rank: Varies
Of course, bringing in a patient isn't always the ideal. In fact, the ideal usually is applying medical aid right then and there at the time of injury. The hospital recognizes these efforts and making a report of it at the hospital will reward the shinobi with exp and ryo. The mission rank is dependent on either the shinobi's pertinent medical field career branch title or, if they are a medic nin, their body rank.
E - no title
D - Lifesaver
C - Medic
B - Assistant
A - Doctor
S - n/a
Restrictions: Must have Lifesaver title or higher in medical field career branch this mission pertains to or be able to use iryojutsu or similar healing techniques.
Extra Rewards: Counts as 1x mission for pertinent medical field career branch. Paragraph count towards this mission can be applied to paragraph count of an applicable, ongoing mission.

Assist the Hospital: Bring a Patient to Work Day
Rank: D
Found someone sick? Injured? Hurt? Whether it's because of a village-wide emergency or little Timmy just scraped his knee and you don't know how to do basic first aid, bring them in to the hospital so that they can be treated and seen. It's not much of a reward, though, mainly so as to not encourage people to not abuse others to abuse this mission, but an extra bit of D-rank experience and ryo is a nice cherry on top of whatever original mission had you finding scraped-knee-Timmy.
Restrictions: Regardless of the number of posts taken to complete the mission, this mission only counts once per visit.
Extra Rewards: Counts as 1x mission for medical field career branch with title of Lifesaver or lower. Paragraph count towards this mission can be applied to paragraph count of an applicable, ongoing mission.

Assist the Hospital: Handle Medical Records
Rank: C
Paperwork, so much paperwork, and at all levels of the medical career. Whether you're just starting out and only trusted with filing stuff in and out or you're a seasoned doctor reviewing a complicated case's medical history, there's bound to be some paperwork you can do.
Extra Rewards: Counts as 1x mission for pertinent medical field career branch.

Assist the Hospital: Shadow a Doctor
Rank: C
As a wee, tiny, title-less little guy, you were only ever allowed to touch and handle papers. However, you've showcased familiarity with the hospital system and finally proved that you know the difference between rabies and rabbits. No longer deemed such a huge liability, you're allowed to follow around a doctor of your chosen medical field career branch, learn first-hand, and of course, do every small task they ask of you. Hopefully, you're paired with one of the good ones who actually give you relevant tasks instead of, say, making you fetch coffee all day.
Restrictions: Must have Lifesaver title or higher in medical field career branch this mission pertains to.
Extra Rewards: Counts as 1x mission for pertinent medical field career branch with title of Lifesaver or higher.

Assist the Hospital: Treat a Patient
Rank: B
You've finally proven yourself capable of not just not messing things up in the examination room but also being left alone in it without ruining lives. Huzzah! Though you may still have only the title of "assistant," you're trusted with tending to and treating patients without a superior's constant supervision. Sometimes it's pre-visit care. Sometimes it's post-visit care. Sometimes it may just be a routine sort of appointment. The medical field is vast, and the ways this kind of mission can go are equally limitless. Though, generally, because you aren't the highest qualification, you're rarely expected to take whole responsibility of a patient, so if anything doesn't make sense, feel free to pass it on to your better.
Restrictions: Must have Assistant title or higher in medical field career branch this mission pertains to.
Extra Rewards: Counts as 1x mission for pertinent medical field career branch with title of Assistant or higher.

Assist the Hospital: You are the Doctor
Rank: A
You've finished your training. You've received your certification. You are now the doctor in whatever field you chose to specialize in. Congratulations. You have your own patients, and while there might be other doctors out there who know more than you do, the important thing is that you are a doctor like them (or nurse for those who took the nursing field). Give yourself a pat on the back. Technically, you don't ever need to come back to the hospital, as most shinobi tend to do after receiving their fancy diploma, but if you ever do, there's this A-rank mission waiting for you. Assist the hospital as the suave doctor you are, treating patients and offering your expertise to those in need.
Restrictions: Must have Doctor title or higher in medical field career branch this mission pertains to.
Extra Rewards: While categorized as an A-rank mission due to its lack of explosions and danger, this mission rewards S-rank exp and ryo.
