"I am not that stupid, love; I have already have been seen by the mayor, and her guard and a few deputies, today." He spoke softly, as he slowly backed away, in an attempt to keep them all in front of him.
"By the Dark Maiden's will, Jukkete(Elven=F***), call Brutus and Thug off!" Placing one of his hands on his dagger, only to show he wasn't going to go silently, as he shifted the coins around in the other. "I don't want Kendar's orb; it is too specialized in it's construction and purpose for a common grab, not to mention how hard it would be to get rid of quickly for a profit." he spoke quickly, yet still softly and composed.
"Besides, unlike the horses you want, it is kind of hard to steal something already stolen. So unless, if you hate this town and wish last night's affair to get continue... I propose a truce, and start over for this conversation. I am looking for the thief, plan and simple. As a hometown merchant, you would know who would be an egotii(elven=curse word given to an outsider considered less than sh...)."

Ambra Goldstar Mage in Training Ambra would bat away the goliath's hand as he tried to remove the cobwebs from her horns and defiantly shout, "Ack! I can do it myself! I'm not a child!"Once Ambra had removed the last bits of sticky spiderweb from her horns, she would turn back towards the group. Clearing her throat once more, she would put on her serious voice again to answer the guard's question. "This tower has been entered twice recently. The first time was about day ago and the other around 12 hours ago, and they did not use the door." Ambra would pause a moment for dramatic effect. "Teleportation magic was used here--and that of a very specialized nature. To magically teleport yourself between two points, one must be able to see their destination. The kind of spell used here must have gotten the spell caster out of the usual requirements. It is a very tricky thing to do; I only know of a few such spells or enchantments. Whoever took the orb is either a skilled spellcaster or had the help of one." Ambra knew she had no solid proof to back up her proclamation, but it was the best lead she had so far. Besides, who else would want such an object besides another magic user?

The outspoken avenger would pause and glance over her shoulder in the direction of the pointing finger, giving a little squeak of delight as she recognized it. "Oh! Lucky me~"
She leaned in to kiss the man's cheek in thanks and turn, hips swaying sensually as she approached the priests that had come out, since they were already paying attention to her. Goddess of Luck. Exactly what she was looking for. Really, it could not have been more perfect. Where best for a thief to hide than among the faithful of the goddess of rogues herself. Besides, Avandra and Sehanine had many of the same morals and tenants. She should be able to jive with them pretty well.
"Brothers!" she declared by way of announcement, arms held wide with every intention of giving the closest one a busty embrace and kiss on each cheek unless she was stopped. "Sehanine and Avandra bless you both! I was wondering, as fellow ministers of the faith, if you could help me out with a little problem. Or perhaps introduce me to the head of your temple so we may speak in private."

Aelgeirr would follow after the drow.down the alley. It seemed to be his only lead thus far. Granted, he wasn't stealthy, but Aelgeirr didn't want to reveal his presence just yet.He did his best to muffle his armor. When this would inevitably fail, the Eladrin would simply say, "Please don't mind me. Go on with what you're talking about. We're all interested to hear."

@ Tafiir: Gaijin. The word you're looking for is 'gaijin'. "Their names are Spartacus, thank you very much," the girl would respond. "They're friends, not henchmen. Try sweet-talking them." She would smirk, and shrug. The two half-orcs would seem to ease, but not relocate. The halfling would pipe up. "People come and go. I'm a regular, Spartacuses are first-timers. Just because someone might be suspicious, doesn't mean jack s**t, brother."The girl spoke up once more. "However, if I had to guess, I..."CLANK CLANK CLANK CLANK-------------------- @ Tafiir & Aelgeirr: "... he'd be a decent start." The girl would gesture behind you, and there is an Eladrin standing at the mouth of the alleyway, who was apparently in the midst of an inventory malfunction. Aelgeirr, just as you arrive, some poorly-secured buckles and knots come loose, and there's a bit of a cascade effect as you apparently are in the midst of disarming yourself. Tafiir, the fellows you've joined turn, and don't hesitate to draw weapons. They're standing with you, rather than against. "Hey! Hey, you there! Stop!" Aelgeirr, two town guards point directly at you from down the street, and begin to hustle in your direction. For some unknown reason, they think you look suspicious. With... your nest of gear? Man, this is a complicated first impression. -------------------- @ Ambra & Enlak: The human guard would blanch. "Wait, so, a wizard is behind this? We're ********!" "Wouldn't there be wards against that kind of thing?" the half-orc guard would ask Ambra. Piggy-banking on your previous check, you detected none, but it's possible they simply faded over time. Wards tend to do that if not maintained. That does beg the question for you two, however: What do you do now? -------------------- @ Mercy: The two priests would smile broadly at your approach; both portly men, but one was balding, while the other still looked fairly youthful. "Greetings, Sister from the church of Sehanine!" the younger-looking one would greet you. "That was, ah... quite the speech," the other would say. "Is it true, then? The Orb is gone?" He would look over his shoulder at the ajar door to the building, to the many parishioners taking sanctuary within. "There was talk of many possibilities, that being one. I'm not sure if telling that to the masses is wise, personally, not without a plan to get it back first.""We can take you to the High Priestess, if you'd like," the other would say, apparently changing the subject to something less dreary. "Mara's probably busy, but she's the type that would make time for a fellow clergywoman.""We can help you ourselves, if you would like," the bald one would tell you. "Yes, it would be our pleasure to do whatever it takes to help you with anything you require!" Your passive insight is high enough to doubt the best intentions of the younger-looking one, but the balding one seems honestly sincere with his good will.

Mercy gave the youthful priest the kind of knowing glance only a priestess of Sehanine could, batting her eyes prettily. Lust was strong with this one. Whether luck was on his side, however, remained to be seen.
"Perhaps both. You may know what your Mistress may not. The faithful are no less important than the guides. But not here. I hadn't realized the theft of the Orb was not common knowledge. We'd do best to avoid inciting panic. The mayor has... requested... no one leave while we're investigating, so reassure them where you can." she explained, placing a hand on an arm each and guiding them into the temple by simple touch.
Once they were out of earshot of anyone particularly panic-worthy, she would continue. "Brothers, you are in a very unique position to assist in this investigation. If the thief has not already fled the area, I suspect there is a good chance they will hide out, or attempt to blend in among the faithful. Where better to pay tribute to a grand theft than to the goddess of luck herself? And where a guilty soul would look on figures of authority, and yes, even adventurers, deputized as we are, with caution and guarded secrets, none are quick to suspect the shepherds as we prefer to stay out of mortal affairs that do not relate to our faith. Keep your eyes and ears open, and with Avandra's blessing you may discover something important."

(serves me right for using a few online elven to common dictionaries.... stupid internet, you lied again crying razz )
"Two for one, I like it." Tafiir spoke, before turning to the two orcs. With a smile anda slight bow of his head. "Pleasure to meet you Spartacus, You may call me Tafiir."
"Suspicious or not, no one is an island. We all know only a fool pulls something of this scope without recon and a plan." He would respond to the halfling, with a shrug. "maybe, possibly, help..."
Drawing his dagger as he turned, with the others, to face the the source sound behind him. With a small smirk rising from right side of his mouth. "Speak fast, who are you? Or.. we'll cry out thief."

Ambra Goldstar Mage in Training Ambra would put her hands on her hip and give the guard an indignant look. "Hey, I'm a wizard too you know! So don't despair just yet! Besides I said it might be a wizard. Their are magical items that produce the same affect, (cough, breaching armor, cough) so he might just be a normal guy with just such a thing."Ambra would put hand back to her chin and begin thinking aloud again."Though...that doesn't explain why it was taken. How could such a specifically built artifact be useful for anything else... Well, I best go see if Aelgeirr has gotten any leads in town. Thanks for opening the tower for me. Ambra would then face the Goliath. "Well Mr. Giant, would you like to come with me? I'll introduce you to the rest of my team, well, the one other member of my team, Aelgeirr. He is a bit... standoffish...but you can count on him in a pinch."Without waiting for Enlak's response Ambra would dash off back to town to find her comrade. All the while thinking about the Orb of Kendar. Why would someone steel it? What other use could it possibly have. ((22 Arcana check to perhaps deduce an ulterior use for the Orb of Kendar based on what Ambra knows about the artifact and magic.))

"Yeah...and how do you think that's going to go don't you, dökkálfr? Look, I don't care what you are up to. All I want to know is what you know of the Orb of Kendar and the thieves that took it. You tell me the truth, and we get on with things and go our separate ways. That cool?"
As the others armed themselves, Aelgeirr discretely grasped the hilt of his longsword and awaited their action.

@ Mercy:
"You got it, my lady!" the younger priest said.
"Hrmm... are you sure?" his colleague would retort.
"Wha-?"
"Well, if such a person did such a despicable deed, would hiding amongst the victims of his or her actions be the wisest move? If they were outed, then the last place I'd want to be is shoulder-to-shoulder with the people I, if you excuse my language, 'screwed over'."
"Well... uhh..." Apparently, the youthful one hadn't considered any alternatives. He didn't seem to agree, but he did become reflective of the possibility.
"Of course we'll keep an eye out," the older man said. "Doubly so, knowing it's a possibility now, but I wouldn't count on it. Especially since..." He would turn and scan the pews. "Yes, everyone here, at least right now, is a Clearwater resident."
While scanning the room yourself, you surmise the location the High Priestess's location. Considering the hour, she's likely only recently finished her early morning prayers to Avandra and has begun her own administrative duties. Where you would assume an office would be, lo and behold, there would be an office.
--------------------
@ Tafiir & Aelgeirr:
"Uh, look... mister... Elf. We're just having a pleasant conversation, that's all. We... are you okay?" the girl would respond first before Tafiir, noting the Eladrin's state of disrepair. "You... don't really look like you're in the best state for a forced confrontation. Aaaand that's the guards, isn't it? I think it's best if we leave you to handle them, mister Elf. Ta ta for now!"
Tafiir, suddenly, the human, halfling, and two half-orcs turn and hustle out the other way of the alleyway, and split up in the process, making it impossible for the Eladrin to follow them as a group. They likely have a pre-designated meeting place.
Aelgeirr! The others begin to retreat! If you follow them, you'll have to leave your weapons and armor behind. Stop rolling natural 1s. The guards are pretty much upon you, and you gauge by the looks in their eyes that they deem you suspicious!
--------------------
@ Ambra & Enlak:
Ambra, unfortunately, it's REALLY hard to gauge what use such an artifact would have, because it really depends who would want it. There's more kinds of mysticism than simply arcane magic, and you aren't sure what uses they may have. The first thought would be simply to study it to be able to construct an artifact that does something similar (or maybe an opposite?). But the reasons are plentiful, just like why a thief might steal a material object. Maybe they want to keep it, maybe they want to sell it, maybe they want to trade it, maybe they want to recover it... everyone's reasons could be different.
Clearwell isn't HUGE and it's not too terribly difficult to track down Aelgeirr. In fact, you're pretty sure you hear his Stealth check of 0, even all the way where you currently are! You get to one street in a merchant district, and you see far ahead, Aelgeirr is being approached by two guards. He's apparently already surrendered his weapons and armor for some reason!

"Have a little faith, brother dearest." she responded with a tut, what might have been a rebuke somehow sounding more like seductive teasing. "Your goddess holds domain over luck, and mine domain over trickery and thieves. Trust in my insight and your luck, and we may yet bring clarity to this darkness."
Lo and behold indeed. It was nice to be able to come in and control the encounter. Sehanine would be proud, as she guided the priests who were supposed to be guiding her, laying the seeds of seduction where she went. Lust for the younger, and confidence for the older. Well... maybe not overly proud. She had all the advantages from the start after all. With practiced grace, she stopped just outside the office and turned to the pair for the last part of her lecture. "Sadly in a case like this you can't afford to discount the possibility that it was a resident. Perhaps someone looking to get a foothold on a fresh start in the wide world beyond, or someone manipulated by an outsider. Trust no one. Not even me. There's just as good a chance I am simply helping in this investigation to throw off suspicion. My only alibi is that I stayed to help fend off the monster attack. Hardly proof of anything. Be clever, and meditate on what you know of everyone, and do come find me if you come up with anything."
And with that she put both hands to her mouth, kissed them, and blew the kisses at the pair, spreading her arms wide as she spun, her simultaneously flowing and form-fitting dress-like robes - showing off a great deal of her legs and cleavage - fluttering about her like a dancer, and ending with a knock upon the High Priestess' door.

Tafiir smiled slightly as he watched, partially amazed, as the group quickly vanished. In truth, it meant hunting them down again, but such was a thief's life. He shrugged...
Taking his cue from the others, the Eilistraein, tossed the coins in his hand, 2 gold, 4 silver, 5 coppers in the new commoner's general direction and slid his knife back into it's sheath. Finally, before the guards could get into sight to see him, Tafiir sat cross legged on the ground, with his back against a wall. And started to rock himself back and forth as he chanted, in a hushed tone.
"Dwarkar dur mornludrukar(Dwarven=clan shield tomb)"
(bluff =17 to fool the guards to believe he stole from a harmless crazy person.

Ambra Goldstar Mage in Training Ambra would see a disarmed Aelgeirr being approached by guards and grumble underneath her breath. "Great...what now." After the whole collapsing house incident she did not know what to expect from him anymore. Still, he was a comrade and a deputy in helping her investigate this whole incident. She would come to his aide. Ambra would come running over to Eladrin's side and state loud enough for the guards to hear. "Aelgeiir, what's going on? How goes your investigation into last nights attack? I have found and interesting clue. We should probably report it back to the Mayor. "

Enlak shook his head, grasping it with one massive hand as though he were in a great deal of pain. For such a young, child-like girl, this tiefling was very knowledgeable...moreso than himself. In fact, all that talk about magic and whatnot had made his head spin. However, it seemed like she wasn't just playing about....While he didn't fully understand the slightest bit of what she'd yammered on about, the girl was clearly dedicated. When she ran off, the large man followed, only to stop a few feet behind her when she came upon a stripped man and another pair of guards. "I swear," he muttered, "This town just seems to draw the odd ones right to me..."

(Ooc No worries. I was a little bit busy lately)
"This dökkálfr knows of the Orb of Kendar. What he knows, I have yet to determine as this....happened before I could ascertain anything. whither by spell or other means, I know not.." Aelgeirr glowers at the half drow. "Time grows short, The chaos of last night cannot be allowed to continue!" If the half drow gave any sign of resistance, Aelgeirr would grab his sword and pop behind the drow's back Otherwise, he'd gather his things.
