tam blinks... it's ok, little one... it's ok... see... nothing happened... and he turns his cheek to ye and not a mark mars it... though there is a bit of dried brown red on his collar...

seeing that he'll get no rest otherwise... tam does much the same, showing kerobian how grateful he is for his friendship and love... how it keeps him sane when he finds himself drowning in sorrow... and how much he cares for the cat... even iffin he is liberally watering his favorite shirt....
kero... i'm serious... i... i am truly happy to have you as my friend... and i wouldn't change that for anything... anything in the world... bez was wrong... little one... the gate did open a little... last night... and had i completed the cry fully i... i might have been able to go home... but i... i decided i just couldn't go... i... couldn't take ye with me... see... and i... i don't want to be anywhere but here with you.....

*Kero sobs even harder...wrapping his arms around Tam...and a flash of lightning reveals Hopian...who gently takes his brother into his own arms and puts him to bed...then he takes Tam up on the roof again, to explain a few things*
Alright, Talesian...I think I should have told you about this a long time ago, but I thought you and Kero would work it out by now...Kero has a keen sense of regret...when he knows he has done wrong, he will drown in guilt until he feels he has been punished for his misdeeds...there's other secrets about him too, but that is one of the most important...why do you think he's so kind to quite a few creatures in his older form...he feels responsible for their plight...Tam...Kero is searching for forgiveness with his tears...not from you...but from himself...and he needs help to get it...
Note: This is not a fake, BTW...for many years I did feel this way...and it took me forever to come out of it...and before I did, I wound up with a scar over my heart...

well i kind of deserved that little scratch... i did scare the living vegeebees out of him... and bez showing up right on cue to gloat didn't help... my sib has a lousy sense of timing... or is it a perfect sense of timing... he knows how to egg people on.... without saying a single word....
tam sighs and shakes his head... kero has nothing to be sorry for... except maybe becoming a little overly dramatic... really he doesn't... not in my eyes anyway... so how can i get this across to him... i mean... i'm kind of stuck here now... no turning back.... it may be eons before the gate responds to me cry again

Perhaps you could have stopped it earlier, but there's no breaking free of his guilt now...believe me, I've tried every way in and out of the books...this deep in...he's not breaking free...

tam nods and thanks hopian for his concern... then he goes and pay the inn keeper for a months use of the room, buying a jug of cream and a flagon of ale to take to the room....
in the room he sets a keep cold spell on the jug, downs the ale, then crawls into bed with kerobian, wrapping him in his arms and sighing into his fur... kero... i brought ye something to eat he whispers... and when he gets no reply... much as he was expecting to happen... he begins to hum, softly surrounding the cub with the same music he had used the night before... only this time he seeks entrance to the young cub's heart..... surrounding the cat with love and acceptance... letting him know he knows all the things kero thinks he has done and doesn't mind... that he accepts them as part of him... no more and no less... that he understand his fear and knows of his regret and that he loves him all the more for it.....
