and finds his muzzle tied shut with one of tam's scarves.... and try as he may, it won't come off... tam tells him, he'll remove it in the morning and pointing to the bed, instructs him to get some sleep... that he is tired of fighting and if kero does it again... the scarf will come back.... and if kero doesn't like it, then he can go live with hopian and be done with it...
kero.. i've told ye time and time again... i do not like swearing... i will admit i have been know to blister a few ears in the past... and ye've just witnessed the fact that i was not lying... but i have learned that it is a fools form of communication and i have no wish to be a fool... and i've tried hard to explain to ye why and teach you to respect the words ye speak... language is a beautiful thing... don't murder it please... he says before blowing out the lamp and going to bed himself...

*Kero silently goes to bed, crying...all he had been doing was trying them to see what they could mean...he's been picking up on language skills fro Tam...and he just wanted to compare them to his current knowledge...*

to tam though (and to me in the long run) it feels as though he has no respect for the bard. It is one thing to ask what a word means and to use it once or twice, that is experimentation... but it is something entirely different when you continue to use it after someone has requested politely you stop, has explained why you shouldn't use it, multiple times at that... and has... as a teachier and guardian source demanded you stop.... kero has been coming across in a very negative way i'm afraid... that he continues to use the language in front of tam is in many books a blatant slap in the face... think about it.... if he is old enough to use the language and know what the words mean... and it is obvious from when he uses the words that he does... he's old enough to understand tam's explanations as to why he shouldn't be using it... if he really cares for the bard, he needs to start thinking about what he is saying... or to stop taking tam's attempts at correcting him so negatively... tam is not trying to hurt him... or truly curb him... but he is trying to get kerobian to think about the things he says and why he says them....
so now he is trying another way to get his point across... he's using the scarf as a reminder... nothing more... i tell ye... he's got far more patience than i ever had... i'm looking at this from the viewpoint of one who has been there done that... tam's never raised any youngling before... ye may say he's grasping at straws and feeling as if he is floundering well over his head... had one of me kids done what kero is doing i would have had kittens by now... wink

at some point in the night tam reaches down and pulls the cub up in his arms to console him, but he doesn't remove the scarf... he was serious about the punishment and although he knows kero is upset and is willing to hold him close, he has indeed reached the end of his rope....

tam goes over to the corner and slowly unties the scarf, kissing him on the head as he does so...
we should probably talk about this, he says, giving him a hug... i didn't punish ye to hurt you, dear one..... i wanted you to think... and i feared yer mouth was getting in the way of yer words... forgive me?

*Slowly...Kero draws Tam's forehead down to his own...and Tam is drawn into a plethora of memories...but instead of blurring to create words...this time they remain stark and clear...*
*Two young dragons...laughing and playing...until a much larger one comes and takes the other one away...uttering the words he would come t hate..."half-breed"...one young dragon...copper scaled...trying to fly out to play with his friends...held back by a leash around his neck...that same young dragon...trying to talk to his father...and winding up with a metal ring around his muzzle...this was his life...his parents, in trying to protect him from the hatred of the outside world...bound him...chained him...silenced him...kept him from harm...and from life...*
*Kero breaks off the memory chain...then turns away...sobbing...*

ahhh... but i have not chained ye and never will... and i'm sorry ye believe that i fully intended to silence ye in that manner... but lately, dear one... i feel as though i'm talking meself blue in the face and that ye just don't care how i feel as well... tell me what am i to do... i've tried the punishments ye suggested and ye refuse to change... i've tried to tell ye why ye should not do the things ye been doing and ye keep doing them... i don't want to send ye away... but i feel as though ye don't want to stay... why else would ye keep trying to make me send ye somewhere else....

*Kero soon breaks away...and his eyes turn grey as storm-clouds...thinking...he pulls Tam in as well...then accidentally blinds him with a flash of inspiration...he quickly pulls Tam into a blurring plethora of images...Tam feels a sense of punishment...of something getting worse...and of time passing with events happening everyso often...*

tam carefully pulls himself free from kero's thoughts and smiles... oh... we'll bump heads... no doubt quite often... and there will be times kero as ye grow older that ye won't agree with me at all and think i'm a dictatorial monster... but if we respect each others views on the important things, we get through it... ye'll see... and iffin ye don't mind i like the scarf approach... it's short and sweet... doesn't hurt ye and i'll only leave it on just long enough to remind ye... to think... ok?

*Kero thinks about it...then makes a counteroffer....he sends Tam an image of himself cursing three times...then getting the scarf after that...with the other four he had suggested being used the first three curses...he promises to try to stop...*

tam sighs... kero iffin i have to punish ye like that every single time ye do something wrong... i'm gonna go crazy... how about this... and he envisions a baseball game with three strikes... ye get three chances... iffin ye keep it up after two warning... i use the scarf... then we start all over again... i warn ye twice then use the scarf... ok?
