"I taught it to him." says Ai quietly. "Or should I say I taught it to a certain little cub who was dear to both of us, his niece, Salunia. How is she anyway, Kero? I bet she has cubs of her own by now... may even be a grandma in her own right."

Mara looks up. "Isn't that Uncle Hopian's daughter? We've never met her, though he has stopped by from time to time."
Ari nods. "He wanted to take us to stay with his family for a time... I remember. When Mama wouldn't wake up. But Daddy said no, that we were too little to go off like that."
Bez flashes Kero a thin smile. "He was worried that I was wearing myself too thin. Funny that... Sparky worried about me. Took me for a loop it did. I never expected him to worry about me."

Ari looks at her father and frowns. "If he's Kero's brother, isn't he our brother, too?"
Bez shakes his head. "Not exactly. Kero is your brother by adoption. Ai never adopted Hopian."
"No need to, he was fully grown and raising his own family when I was raising Kero." laughs Ai with a shrug.
"It's all so confusing." sighs Mara.
Bez chuckles. "Then do as I do, simply accept it all at face value. Don't try to make sense out of it. It isn't going to happen."

I don't know if your Mama ever told you, but in one of my previous lives, I was a vampire. Specifically, I was bitten by Hopian. However, the blood bond we then forged wasn't master and servant, but brother to brother. *Notes their looks* Don't be scared. Neither he nor I am vampiric anymore.
