I used the patterns posted on here as a guide (thanks so much for having that!) eek heart and made these hair accessories for my local anime club to sell at their artist alley table at this con they are going to next month. the headress with black lace is reversable I made 3 of the bigger bows, but one of my coworkers bought the white one I made. idea the patterns worked really well as a guide for measurements of ribbon length and how to make some of the bows, but I also improvised a lot. let know know what you think about these. which ones do you like the best? how much should be charged for each item?

Not bad! I think the white headdress one is the best/my favorite out of all of them, though. The patterned ones are a bit of a problem really, because:
a) floral patterns are hard to match unless you have the exact same fabric b) the lace doesn't look quite as nice
Over all, they are very nice, though! I'd say probably sell them for the cost of materials times 1.5, so you get a bit of profit in the end, but they stay relatively inexpensive.

thanks for your input! heart I was thinking the same thing about that material, but it is still a really pretty print.
yea I was thinking really inexpensive too for the selling price. besides the one reversable one, I tried to stick to the basic colors I had and make basic stuff that would match easily.

I agree with Spuntino that the white one is very cute and my favorite. For the patterned one I think patterns could work but if done in colors that could easily match to outfits like something in white/pink or black/white.
A little off topic but I saw in a few of your posts in the albums that your cosplay photos were from Rising Sun, are you from FL?

boconnotto I made really simple flannel bloomers to wear with my underbust JSK to a skating meet-up that never happened. They do make for comfortable PJs, though. I have a pair of flannel bloomers with tiny blue flower buds that I use for the same purpose! It really is a comfy fabric. Anyway, sorry about being gone so long from this guild. I was working, with an incredibly long commute that left only time for sleeping, really. It looks like everyone has kept busy, though, so that makes me happy.

I just finished this skirt I'm planning to wear as a country lolita coordinate. (I post all photos as thumbnails) I'm especially in love with the lace! It matches the pattern on the fabric perfectly.

i recently finished these two outfits ^^ a friend helped me figure some stuff out because it was my first time sewing and outfit together, but i finished each in one day, so two outfits in 2 days ... we stayed up late lol please forgive the cheap lace sweatdrop so... please tell me what you think ^^ first (alice in wonderland) and second is a sweet loli the top was too tight around the bust, so after we extended the sides, we added a big bow, which ended up looking really good ^^ and this was a strapless dress that i altered awhile ago, thought i would put it up. you cant really see that well in this pic, but i added red lace on the top for straps, i also did two columns of lace along the bust, both ending in big black bows... this was the only pic i had

While your craftsmanship is very good [especially for a beginner, kudos for learning fast!], I'd recommend finding better materials. That lace doesn't look particularly appealing, to be honest, especially in comparison to how nice the work you've done otherwise is.
I can't tell, does the pink material have a pattern to it? I feel like I'm seeing polkadots, but I'm not sure.

I just finished a replica of the old Candy Pop jsk. Laying down without the bows on the front. Full shot of me wearing it Close up of the bodice, wristlets and the necklace (both also made by me)

skankmuffin: I saw your D_L post a few days ago. (: Too cute!
I-onishi: I really have to disagree with you on that point. Part of what makes lolita a fashion and not just cosplay is the quality of its materials as well as its workmanship. Lolita is luxurious and detailed, and has a lot of care and effort put into it to get the right look. A lot of times cheap materials will just completely ruin the effect of a garment, which is honestly what I think has happened here. Cotton cluny lace isn't that much more expensive [a few cents per yard], and it looks infinitely better on a lolita outfit than shiny, plastic lace. Most times, what separates amazing pieces from so-so pieces are the quality of the materials and not the way it was made.
Her craftsmanship is very good, especially for a beginner, but the lace is overpowering [too large, too shiny], and really not at all appealing with the delicate style she's going for.

I have to agree with Spuntino on Gothic's use of lace. Good lace can sometimes be the difference between a costumey looking dress and a nice Lolita piece. I do see that she has good craftsmanship and the clothes looks well put together but the lace is the only thing that kills the outfit. If you have a Wal-Mart nearby they sell Cluny lace for 4yrds for $1.98 so it very economical and you will feel the difference instantly.
As for I-onishi I find your comment rude that you tried to dismiss Spuntino's advice like that. I assure you she is a mod for a reason and would only provide advice to help. Price has nothing to do with things. I have made some very nice economical things but I never have to sacrifice quality so Gothic should have no problem doing so either.

IAWTC, and by all means, if you are educated enough with Lolita to be dismissing Spuntino's comment like that, especially when she's known for doing such a great job informing and advising people, then where are your clothing, your works? Because all I'm seeing is that you're just encouraging to do more, not to do better. We're not here to a**-kiss all the way, we are here to help people IMPROVE their skills and their ability to point things out. That is partly the reason why this thread is here.
Material is one of the most important things, in an outfit PERIOD. Whether or not it's lolita. Both good materialistic-quality and technique are important in fashion ALTOGETHER, because with only one without the other will make that item look like trash, to put it quite bluntly. And lolitas aren't supposed to look like that, are they? It's not hard to get and make good quality for very cheap.
