I'll reroll then, since I wasn't sure what I was going to do with that one yet. Besides, I'm kind of enjoying working with the random picks, I'll let other folks handle what they have a real interest in.

Describe a courtier who has an addiction: Yasuki Tamiko

Despite the proximity to both the Lion and Dragon clans, the dynamic between the Lions and Unicorn, and the strange and often reclusive nature of the Dragon leave the Crab clan as that which Rais has most frequently encountered. This has to do, in part, with the fact that his mother was a Yasuki bushi (possibly with a strong line of Hida blood in her as she stood even taller than his father). Besides normal interactions between the clan and ties of family, Moto Hanae has made sure to introduce her son to as many Crab on as friendly of terms as possible. Amongst these is Yasuki Tamiko, a young courtier whom the once-crab has repeatedly tried to set Rais up with, nevermind his leaning for warrior women.

Sure, she knows her way around a tetsubo, but it's really not the same.

Tamiko is a wide traveled trader-and-diplomat for the Crab, especially fond of collecting oddities from the Mantis or Unicorn that might seem quite remarkable in the eyes of a more traditional clansman. Never afraid to use her charm or sheer force of personality to get her way, Rais has come to find her a fine drinking partner and easy on the eyes, despite his resistance to his mother's attempts of brokering a marriage there. Tamiko for her part seems ambivalent about the supposed match, but it hasn't stopped her from trying to use Rais to help her push a deal or evade trouble... especially with some of her less public deals made in the Unicorn or Scorpion lands.

Though her training and pure Yasuki talent has kept it from becoming more than a nasty rumor cropping up here or there, Tamiko is overly fond of some of the products manufactured from the poppy the Unicorn once introduced to the empire. Though her first doses were a respectable medical treatment for an aching wound she received from a Shadowlands creature, which while untainted refuses to ever fully heal, as time wore on and this treatment became seen as unneeded, she discovered the wonders of the smoke one could produce from poppy. Since, Tamiko's Opium Addiction has become her greatest vice, and can hardly enter Unicorn or Scorpion lands without turning up someplace to procure some.

I rolled a LOT of already taken questions before I hit that 15.

Describe a bushi who is tainted: Moto Shikuge

The Moto have had a dark history with those of their members whom became tainted. As such they regard them perhaps with even more suspicion, if that is possible, than most would regard a tainted member of their own clan. This is the sad tale of Moto Shikuge, whom took part in a rescue mission into the shadowlands, a man wise enough to procure jade first, but not enough to last when his party became lost and stranded.

Shikuge managed to bring one of the charges of this rescue mission back alive, with what scarce little of his group had survived, but would discover in the coming months that the Shadowlands had left their mark on him. Though he has been allowed to live, an escort of two other capable warriors are never far from him, and the Kuni Witchhunters arrive several times a year to check upon his condition. Though his infection remains only mild, few wish to associate with him, and those close enough often notice his exhausted looks from sleep filled with nightmares, or his pricklish manner. He seems unstable, and yet has never given any cause to suspect him or execute him, behaving admirably (aside from his gruff manner) until he has a chance to do battle. Though he is especially fond of seeking any opportunities to deal a blow back to the Shadowlands and its creatures or allies, Shikuge takes any battle as a chance to cut loose, going berserk and throwing himself into the violence with an unholy fervor.

Rais has scarcely ever directly interacted with the man, but he hangs in his peripheral. Perhaps because of the Crab influence on him, he is especially critical and suspicious of the man, always half expecting him to turn traitor or indulge in some quiet evils on the side. The one thing he cannot criticize is his effectiveness on the battlefield.

DESCRIPTION
Gin is short, only about 5'7", but he's well built and in his mid twenties. His body almost mismatches his head. He has long black wavy hair that's tinged with red. It frames his soft, attractive, and oddly feminine features. His voice, however, more matches his body, being rich, deep, and soothing. Of course, appearances are almost always deceiving. He typically wears one of the cockiest smiles you will ever see on a person. He is arrogant, mischievous, and, above all, self confident, but he has an uncanny ability to make people trust him and to talk people into things.

BACKGROUND

I have you at 64 points of traits, 16 points of class skills, 28 points of nonclass skills, 14 points in emphases, 14 points in advantages, and -9 points in disadvantages. 127 total, 2 points over. My guess is that you counted your second emphasis in Lore: Elements as 2 points instead of 4?

As per p188, if you have the Staves [Bo] Emphasis, you have +5 to your TN to be Hit.

Otherwise, it appears to be good for now. Note that you start at Glory 2.0. I'll do one more once-over on everyone's sheets before we start.

I'm sure anything is possible, considering I counted it like 3 times and didn't exactly get the same number every time. Spellcraft is rank 1 now. Glory fixed. Nothing about Status? Was never solid on how or when those two things go up or down. Out of curiosity, though, did you take into account the fact that my Zanji emphasis for Meditation is free with my school?

As for the Bo emphasis, I have the bonus written down, but he's not always wielding it, so I didn't want to plug in the number on the assumption of a base value. He only gets the special abilities on the hand-to-hand strikes, after all.

• Describe a minor clan samurai with lots of scars.

Tonbo Miroku was an otherwise ordinary Dragonfly bushi, until one day he met with a small group of Lion bushi on the road in Phoenix territory. It was greatly unfortunate for him that this particular group was particularly unscrupulous. They easily overpowered him and left him for dead on the side of the road. To compound on their dishonor, they covered him with grievous wounds to mimic as if he had been mauled by a lion.

By the time Ginjou came down the road, Miroku had lost an impressive amount of blood, but somehow was still alive. Gin rigged a pallete out of his blanket and drug the poor man to the closest village. The eta doctor was initially terrified of the attention he had garnered from these two samurai, but eventually attended to Miroku. He informed Gin later that had Miroku not had an amazing clotting ability, he likely would have died long before Gin had found him. Understandably lacking in the expertise to know what all that meant, Gin just assumed that Miroku must have been blessed by some kami.

Once Miroku was healed enough to travel, Ginjou made sure to accompany the man back to his lands. To this day, he wonders if Miroku ever managed to bring retribution to the dishonorable men who left him in such an embarrassing state.

Status 1 unless you have something that changes that.

And you can see my breakdown in points. 14 points in emphases does not include the free Zanji smile

• Describe a bushi who wields an unusual weapon.

One day, a Crane diplomat came to visit Ginjou's master. Accompanying the dignitary was Daidoji Shun'ichi, a yojimbo. He carried the customary katana and wakizashi, but what caught Gin's eye was the length of chain wrapped about the man's waist.

At some point, Gin got Shun'ichi alone and asked what was up with the chain. The yojimbo smiled confidently and explained that it was his manrikikusari, his favorite weapon. Ginjou politely asked for a demonstration, as he was curoius how a kusari kata would play out. Suffice it to say that Shun'ichi gave him quite a show involving a great many complicated whirling techniques. Gin politely congratulated him on his mastery of such a complicated style, and Shun'ichi politely denied it saying that there was still much for him to learn, but he did enjoy the challenge.
