Michelle's foot slowly tapped the ground as she listened to Eretria. She was annoyed with herself for showing this side of herself to anyone who wasn't close to her, but honestly she was desperate. She missed Tay. She missed him more than she was willing to admit, and she was worried about him. It seemed her got himself in trouble no matter where he went, and she was worried he'd get himself into more trouble than he could handle. As it was they ended up getting close to dying everytime they got in trouble together anyways.

At the last known whereabouts of Tay, she actually snorted out loud. Apparently this trip was a waste. She could have gone straight to the damn castle without Eretria's input and she had no idea if going there would get her anywhere anyways. She ran a hand through her hair and raised her eyebrow at the talk of payment. "You're lucky you've got your.... special skills Eretria." She said slowly, her classic half smile forming on her lips. "I'm sure you can guess I wasn't planning on paying you at all. I know what you want for payment and I don't like sharing."

She turned on her heel to leave, but paused at the doorway. "But... If I find Tay, you'll get what you want... depending on what you want." With that she exited the room and then the building. There was no need for her to escort her out. Michelle wasn't planning on snooping. There was no need. She didn't care about the Whitethorne's secrets. She knew the worst of them anyways.

He didn't even know why he was here! He should turn around, now! Before it was too late. Instead, he hovered there with fingers just out of reach of the door knob. The exterior of the shop was clean, scrupulously so, but that would be a simple task to accomplish with the flick of a wand. A glare in the windows beamed directly in his eyes, it was nearly impossible for him to see through the pane of glass to the other side, though he was sure he saw the flutter of parchment shoot from right to left. He knew, or rather, he had heard that he could find Eretria here. Her name had been dropped more than once from the wizarding vine, apparently, it seemed she knew a thing or two and was willing to part with the information for a certain price. Ordinarily, his information came directly from his uncle, or his uncle's numerous informants. But he didn't trust them now, and it was unlikely he ever would. It only made sense for him to scout prospects of another seamstress to spindle through the web of lies and find each individual strand of truth. Tay had neither the patience nor time to do so.

But he had his doubts. He knew her, first of all, and that could either be good or bad. He supposed that depended on how strict to her trade she was versus how much she must utterly loathed him. Why should he be surprised? She was one of the first to reject his numerous attempts at “blending in.” It seemed he was dreadful at it, and would have been better off otherwise. But that was years ago, and he wasn't that boy anymore. Nor was she that girl. In truth, it'd been a long time since he'd seen the Whitethorne girl—still not long enough—but it would have to do.

He finally fueled the fire with gasoline and took that first step into the blaze. He slithered through the slit in the doorway and sauntered quietly through the shop. His eyes cast over each article of parchment, each particular quill, every square inch and all it occupied and inhabited. The people, the workers, they were the last of his notice; if any had posed him with a queer stare, he had not seen it. His intentions were clear cut; evidence of the only Whitethorne daughter. He hoped to mingle with her family as little as possible, if he could help it.

Eretria seemed to be basically hanging around her father's place of business lately a lot. Not that she was neglecting ehr own job, of course not. It was just the off season, and having bludgers aimed at you for a living was pretty tough. Which, of course, made it that much more enjoyable since she usually taunted her opponents to do it. Why, the beaters from Bulgaria were furious at her for that tactic, but that was just them, really. She was just enjoying her time off, and considering that she was going to be going on vacation with Magni, she was actually pretty happy about it.

It wasn't until she walked into the front area that her eyebrows rose in curiosity. Well now, wasn't this a surprise? She hadn't seen Nott since he left school all those years ago. Now, there he was, standing in the front of her father's offices, looking like he was waiting for someone. Had he sought her out? This was a curiosity. Her face completely neutral, she stepped forward, her face calm, but her eyes searching. If Michelle was a legilimens... A slow smirk spread across her face. Well then, no wonder Michelle seemed so frustrated. She crossed her arms, waiting for him to notice her.
"William Dante Nott the third, you are the last person I expected to show up here. What brings you to my father's business? It can't be that you're looking to publish something, now can it?" Oh yes, she knew this game well. However, she recalled their last meeting and she had to frown. First year impressions were rarely correct, though given what had transpired, she could hardly fault the man for being even a bit wary around her. After all, she had rebuked his initial gift, only to request for a more private setting to speak. That never happened, and she vaguely wondered if this was that long-awaited meeting.

[Fall 2026]

Disarrayed, he wrung his fingers through his hair and tore at the ends. A visible struggle waged war on his features; he should never have come here. It was a mistake. He did his best to mar the evidence from his face when he spotted her, crossed arms and all. When she had addressed him properly he finally locked his eyes with hers, no longer seeing through her, or around her, or away. Darkness lingered inside of him, but it was locked behind bar and key and reinforced with studded iron. Even if her focus wandered, it would take much longer than several moments to slither through the cracks in his wall to find any secrets of worth. Fortunately, he wasn't interested in trying to do the same. But the day he did would be an ornery day indeed. However, if he had to be perfectly honest, he had wondered what had become of her. And what in the hells had become of the English National Quidditch team that they had to scout her fresh out of Hogwarts. Maybe it was jealousy... But not for what she had, but for what she had become. Not the fame, the career, or the ravenous ears, but the image, the reflection. It was the portrayal of something sincere that made him feel so damn empty.

He cleared his throat. ”Oh can't I?” He almost seemed offended. ”I've recently ventured in a novel for children, if you must know, he mused, a delightful mockery rang on full pitch. ”'How to make friends,' I think I'll call it.” Bemused, he dared to stitch a smile on his thin lips. Cocked his head to the side and offered a dry chuckle. ”It's a work in progress,” he decided with a nonchalant shrug.

”To be honest, this is the last place I expected to be. But I didn't come for your father's business... I came for yours.” He wanted to say more, but he knew better. ”Is there a place we can talk?”

Eretria smirked, recognizing the joke for what it was. Oh, yes, he remembered it all right. His brief attempt. It seemed to speak of sometime far more distant, perhaps before she became a student, but she couldn't tell which, not when she knew very well how much of what she heard about Nott was just that, only what she heard. She had no true proof to much, only that he'd been involved in some things lately that smacked of Dark magic, but ironically, she was not in the business of calling her boyfriend up for every renegade wizard she ran across. If she had, Ross would not have made it to the woods several years ago and, if her sources were correct, scarred his brother. The sheer absurdity of him venturing into children's books made her chuckle outright, and she gestured lazily toward the back. "How would that go, anyway? The book? Probably something along the lines of, 'Bribery is good for gaining temporary assistance, but never true allies?"

Her own tone was amused, and she cast a glance at him with a frown settling between her brows as the only sign that something bothered her. Nott had vanished, she'd heard something about Storm ending up wounded in Scotland, and then Nott reappears while Storm vanished. She knew the two well enough to know that there was some animosity there. Which, she was still annoyed at her previous quidditch captain. She had to hand it to Michelle, she had distracted Ronyo from getting the information she sought. She very much doubted that Chris was an idiot. Chris could tell that the Dante person (and really, running around using your enemies' names? That was cliche and overused) had only started stalking her brother after she hired Ron to investigate Chris's disappearance. That he came close to discovering what her brother was, that angered her. He could try and get her secrets out, but he would fail. She would ensure that nothing left her stores of knowledge without her consent.

She gestured to her brother's office, knowing it would be unused until the evening and waited for him to enter.
"After you. You're lucky, my brother's not in the office today." Eretria waited for Nott to enter, after which casting a muffliato on the portal and charming it locked before she put away her wand and crossed her arms. "Now, how can I be of service. I know Michelle's back in the country and looking for you, you know. But, I doubt you came here to talk about her, or ask."

Arms crossed over his chest and hidden just under the fabric of his black cloak, the silver clasp took the form of a leaping hound, an English Bullmastiff, to be specific. Years had passed since the last time he had donned his family sigil, it felt so foreign to him. But it was a habitual trait in his youth, and if anything, he had to keep appearances. It would do him no good if he divulged more than he should. He needed to focus, he reminded himself, not traipse around the politics. Tay remained silent; he couldn't tell if she was studying him. Paranoia began to trickle down his spine, a sewer of memories decayed. If he closed his eyes long enough, he could see the poisonous stare, green and inhuman. He blamed everyone but himself for what had happened down in those dungeons once upon a time ago, everyone. But the occlumency had helped, it served to lock those memories away. But sometimes, in moments like this when faced with the bitterness of his past, it was almost impossible to forget. ”Oh of course, but I'll have to be sure to mention it won't work for Slytherin's. Oh no, extortion, that's the way to go.” He nodded his head deliberately, his wink less than settling.

His motionless stance shifted, the weight leaned from one foot to the next. His leg would never be what it once was. The scars would last a lifetime, as would his hatred. He feared to take any movement, it would be impossible to conceal his condition. ”Lucky?” The amusement bowed and took a forlorn turn. ”...Funny way of showing it.” But he neglected to comment further. A dutiful sigh heaved at his lips as he stepped forward, not ungraceful, but notably crooked by his slanted cloak. His stroll was casual, each foot padded audibly beneath him and his fingers seared apart his cloak to prod at all the things he could inside the room. He thumbed absentmindedly through paperwork, manuscripts, the clock on the desk and the handle of several file cabinets (though those, he left unopened.) Every inch fell under the scrutiny of his gaze before he collapsed pointedly in the seat of Eretria's brother and kicked up both feet on the desk. ”So she did leave then?” He sounded surprised, and, had been frank about it too. ”And you knew?” He assumed plainly, and took her initial silence (because really, why give her a chance to retaliate) as proof. He nodded and carried on. ”Good.

“I hope we can keep personal affairs separate from business, you've always proven to be a... well, I could say whatever I want but you'd take it as either insult or bribery, so I'll spare us both the pain.”
If in the least, he knew how to learn from his mistakes.

”Being the kind of man I am, I'm in constant need of intelligence, but before I ask to what and why and when...” Honestly, women always have to be so bloody difficult, always interrogating. ”How much of my soul will it cost me?” Because that's what it would be, right? A piece of himself. Something imperative, something valuable; an insurance of his silence and loyalty, if he was even capable of such.

Eretria nodded at Tay's comment about Michelle leaving. She knew very well that Tay had probably wished for her to go, and that she knew. That he considered it good was something that she figured out on her own. Getting rid of the demons of the past was something that everyone probably needed, which included her to some greater or lesser degree. She only perked up when Tay mentioned that she could keep personal and business affairs separate. She smirked at what Tay suggested could have been taken as an insult or bribery, ad crossed her arms. "Honestly, had I thought about it, I would have spoken to you about Storm before I let him meddle in the affairs of my family. I was naive, and thought he could help. All he did was get into business that was none of his concern and cause issues in things that he need not have. Beyond that, yes, I do keep things separate, just like how you value your secrets."

She pursed her lips as he mentioned his need for information. Her eyebrow cocked, and she let amusement colour her features as he asked about the cost. Oh yes, the mention of payment. That was always the meat of the conversation, and she glanced to the door before finding her eyes meeting Tay's golden ones again. Considering their history, she could outright refuse him, but the problem was, there was never any animosity for her, just piqued curiosity as to why a noble from a pureblood family would deign to even approach her. Especially considering her father was inferred by many to be a blood traitor. She crossed her arms, thinking. "Well, it depends on the information requested. If it is personal in nature, then I would have to insist on just recompense. However, if it had nothing to do with me or mine, then the information comes more cheaply. Just depends on the nature of the information requested."

Her blue eyes locked onto Tay's, and she smirked. "The question here is, what information do you require, and how easily can I get it? If it's a simple matter, again, a simple price. If it's much more difficult or personal, then we have a dispute of price. Which would this happen to be, Dante?"

Dear boy what are you running from
Everyone has got to be saved

Run boy be a man
With legs too weak to make a stand
We're all crucified in the end

Jump into the sun
Dear boy what are you running from

[Fall 2026]

He reclined dangerously; arms crossed behind his head for comfort, his legs crossed at the ankle as the heel of his shoe hooked against the desk's edge and propelled him backwards on two chair legs. For a time, his gaze was distant as they studied the patterns on the high ceiling, almost lost. Until she'd spoken that name so knowingly, it begged to offer the question if she'd already wormed her way inside of his mind without him realizing it! But no, he would have liked to think that was impossible, maybe it was that arrogance that had doomed him all along? In the end, it wouldn't matter, he wouldn't change. He could have called her a fool for trusting Storm, hell, he should have. But why give her a reason to change her mind? ”A reasonable mistake,” he murmured. His gaze shifted to meet hers coolly. ”It's a shame you hadn't....

“His own 'friends' didn't trust him, not Ichval, not Raines, or Doyle... Not really.”
Though it would always be a mystery for him as to why Colton left, he'd always had a small notion of where—anywhere but here—and on the same search that Tay had once been on for so damn long. ”They all kept their secrets from him.” He said this knowingly, because he had, in a way, ruined them. But it wasn't without a fight. And oft times, he'd been wicked enough to pick them out, one by one, Phi and Colt were the easiest, in that aspect. But every chance Tay had ever gotten, he had ruined it, somehow. From the fight on the grand staircase where Professor Rosier interrupted, or down in the depths of the dungeon when that boggart caught them all off guard, or the book that had fallen into Phi's hands that she kept secret, that she had always kept secret.

”—Don't— ” visibly strained, the wrinkles in his brow darkened the shadows under his eyes. ”Don't call me that. Honestly, Whitethorne, I never realized we had gotten on to a first name basis, but really... if it has to be anything other than Nott, call me Tay.” He gave her a leveling stare, the composure threatened to be something hideous if he wasn't careful, and that wall in his mind just might break. ”I...” he paused. Where should he even start? ”I have old scores to settle, only problem is, I don't seem to know where to look.

“I need to know where I can find Michelle. Same for Ichval, or do I call her Flint now? And Raines, though they might not even be in the country... and Storm. Where the hell has he been these past few years, and what has he been up to?”
Tay liked to think he already knew. Storm preferred the notion that he was pure of heart, but Tay knew better. That boy has a thirst for power in him, and it wouldn't surprise Tay if that would come to be his undoing.

(Honestly, he was counting on it.)

Gearvin sat at his desk, a frown pulling at his features as he twirled a box around in his hands. He had finally taken off the wedding ring he had when he married Anastasia, and it now was in a box with keepsakes he had from other events in his life. Now he felt quite nervous, and figured it had everything to do with Nicole. Not that he blamed her, it was just that he wasn't sure if she wanted to take the extra step considering her ex husband. Sighing, he placed the box down and waited, hands folding on top of his desk. He did have a plan for what to do after the question at least, he just didn't know if the plan would go through or not. It depended on Nicole, and her reaction.

Nicole was doing a bit better in these heels than the ones she had worn the other day at her tea date with Fiona but still felt like a newborn giraffe with each step. The reason she was even wearing heels again on such short notice was because any other shoe would look quite silly with her semi-formal wear and the reason for that is because of her previously mentioned friend. After talking with her and agreeing that she and Gearvin needed to talk she had been given a shock when she later received notice from him to meet at his store. Her friend had been more excited than she was and promptly charged into her home and her closet to find the perfect eye catching outfit to have their serious conversation in. Well, she hoped it was a serious conversation, otherwise she would feel embarrassed having gotten so dressed up for something trivial, but then he never really contacted her in this fashion for anything trivial. Either way she was a bundle of nerves by the time she arrived in front of her previous place of work and just walked in not seeing anyone inside or Chris at the desk. So it was just them then. She supposed that was good, wouldn't want anyone to overhear and get the wrong idea...if there were ideas. Gods she was a mess! Nicole resisted the urge to wipe her sweaty palms on her dress practically able to hear the hissing from both her mother and Fiona that sweat and makeup (preferably not mixed) were the perfect way to ruin a dress so instead fiddled silently with her necklace before finally gathering all her wits and self confidence. She could talk to Gearvin about their hopeful future together right? It wasn't like this was a break up meeting...right? The mother of three shook her head again trying to rid her bad thoughts and rearranged her long hair curled in waves back over her shoulders before taking a deep breath as she walked the short length to his office door and knocking three times before waiting a beat then entering with a soft nervous grin. "Hello, how are you tonight?" she figured she could get the pleasantries out the way first before doing the not-so-pleasantries, if that was a word.

Gearvin stood, picking up the box as Nicole entered. He wasn't nervous, he refused to be in any case, and he smiled at her as he stepped around the desk and gave the woman a peck on the cheek. He then straightened and took Nicole's hand in his own, nooking her in the eyes before hesitating for a moment. Shoving away any random thoughts about how this could go, he started speaking. "Nicole, I believe I am doing well enough, but there is something I must speak with you about. It concerns us, and I was wishing to know what your input would be. We have been together for some time now, long enough that I don't know if Timothy or Tanya have any real recollection of their father beyond some perhaps hazy recollections. Considering that, I believe that they perhaps view me in that light. Especially Timothy."

He paused, gathering his thoughts together before proceeding again. "It made me perhaps consider some things. Notably, where we happen to stand as a couple. When we first met, I duly recall a woman that could scarcely look at her ownshadow, let alone be in the presence of anyone not her children. However, I have watched you come out from the shadow of your last relationship and blossom, and I couldn't be happier to know that in this new life you lead, you decided to make me a part of it. I would very much love to become more a part of it than I have before now." Gearvin then dropped to one knee, lifting the box up for Nicole to see and opening it. "Nicole, I would like to spend the rest of my life with you. Would you do me the honor of accepting my hand in marriage?"

Nicole felt her cheek warm where Gearvin had kissed it and felt brief amusement that she had been dating the man for more than a few years and still managed to blush like a teenager with her first crush. This more than solidified her thoughts that she needed to talk with him about their future, or mainly if they still had one. She looked into his eyes with her own brown sugar colored ones and saw hesitation and was about to ask about what when he started to speak. The way he spoke made it sound like he was asking her for business advice which made her deflate just for a second before he started in on the length of their relationship buoying her back to her previous slightly anxious state. She nearly snorted however when he spoke of Tanya and Timothy thinking of him as their father and had this not been a serious matter (or what seemed to be a serious matter) she would have told him that they've been seriously fighting calling him Dad or Father to his face to avoid rejection. Truly if he had nothing to worry about; they loved him and in her son's case looked to him not as a father figure but as their actual parent. When he paused Nicole gave him an encouraging soft smile and slow nod as if to say "Yes, please go on." Her heart skipped a beat when he went on to the exact topic that she had come to talk to him about causing her anxiety to skyrocket. What if this was his way of breaking up with her? She blushed lightly but noticeably when he spoke of the past, notably how she used to act and react to other people when her husband had just been arrested and she had been trying to move on with her life. She didn't think she could ever truly speak of how grateful she had been to him for allowing her this job and the amount of times he had glossed over her children being in the shop during and sometimes after hours. Her blush intensified as he praised her progress throughout the years making her want to say that it was because of him that she was able to bloom as she did. That even in spite of all her problems, woes, and failures that he would still want to be with her. All thoughts rushed instantly from her mind the moment she saw Gearvin lower himself onto one knee and opened a small ring box for her to see the most beautiful ring she ever laid her eyes upon. At his question Nicole barely held it together to not break out into a succession of sobs, mainly because 1) Gearvin was a sweetheart but still became rather awkward around someone crying 2)Fi would kill her and figure out a way to bring her back from the dead so she could ream her a new one if she managed to get tears and blotchy makeup on her dress and finally 3) because she wanted to remember this moment just the way it was without the mess of tears to blur anything. However that didn't exactly stop a few tears to make their way down her cheeks which should probably start hurting soon from the way she had been smiling, no, beaming since the question had been asked making her aware that she had been silent for about five seconds without giving an answer. "Yes! Yes of course, I couldn't think, couldn't imagine spending my life with anyone other than you." Nicole replied softly but emphatically still smiling from ear to ear.

Lyre walked into the book shop, having done quite a bit of research about the establishment. Her eyes sparkled with excitement, thrilled at the possibility of her first job. The only thing that worried her was the lack of magical transcript, as she'd moved before her OWL examinations. She looked around the shop, before walking up to the counter. "Hello, Sir. My name is Lyre Lutrix, and I was hoping to offer a job application. I'd like to apply for the part of editor, or perhaps receptionist. I can do either, and I'll do them to the very best of my ability." She offered an application, to which she had clipped a copy of both her Hogwarts grades, and the grades of the high school she'd attended. "I moved away with my family in the middle of my fifth year. I'm muggleborn, you see, and they couldn't afford the aeroplane travel to get me to and from school." She waited antsily, hoping she'd made a good attempt at a first impression.

He strode to the entrance, his head held high as he regarded the young girl. And she was young, to boot. Definitely younger than his three children, older than Nicole's. He however greeted her with a nod and a small smile, offering his hand to shake and his other to take the application and grade sheets. He paused, cocking an eyebrow briefly at them before he nodded towards the back to his office. "Miss Lyre Lutrix? I am Gearvin Whitethorne. I am the owner of Whizz Hard Books. Please, come with me into my office and we can discuss your credentials as well as the... ahem, lack of official OWL scores."

Lyre gave a polite smile to the man, listening as he said he was the owner. She shook his hand happily, remembering to do so as her aunt had shown her. This job was really important to her, after all. Gearvin asked her to come along to his office, so she followed, taking specific, special care not to trip over her feet and send something tumbling to the ground. That was surely a good way to lose a job. Once in the office, she felt her heart race, but her polite smile remained. "How far is a lack of official scores going to set me back? I had hoped to take them, of course. I was honestly looking forward to them. I like taking exams, you see, but it was quite urgent that I move with my family. My father is a university professor, and he was asked to teach at Yale, in America. It was a bit too much to pay eight-hundred and fifty pounds, one way, at the start and end of each school term. And... sorry. I'm not usually so talkative. I'm a bit nervous, honestly." She tugged at the skirt of her dress, hoping to distract herself from her nerves. She smiled a bit more, praying to any number of deities she would get this job. It would be so amazing to be an editor!
