"Yeah. . .thing is, it's not a good thing at all. If we're not careful, it could end up consuming Alex at one point. And honestly, I can't say I blame him right now. That had to be probably the biggest shock of his life, even bigger than when Tohru almost died and our house turned to dust." Sasha sighed before putting on a small smile. "Oh, well. The best we could possibly do is just watch over him. I just hope he doesn't close up permanently." Her stomach growled a little from hunger, and she blushed brightly. "I'm, uh. . .just gonna. . .eat dinner before heading to bed, then. And also. . .don't tell Alex. Not yet. And I'll know if you do!" With that she went back inside and downstairs, noting Tohru's bedroom to be closed; he'd obviously already gone to bed. She shrugged, heading over to the dining room, spotting her food on the table and sitting at it and started to eat her share.
Alex wasn't sure he wanted to sleep, but he knew he didn't want to talk to anyone. However, due to the battle, he found it hard to stay awake.
The battle. . .
Something had been different then, he knew that. There was no possible way of denying it, seeing how he had managed to beat two people, one of them being Enzai. And all he had were some burns from Enzai's aura.
Just then, something appeared in his hand with a soft glow. He froze, not really sure he wanted to know what it was, slowly drawing his hand towards him. His necklace was in his hand again, but whether he had called it or not, he didn't know. But, right now, he didn't want it. He threw the thing across the room, shaking, afraid that it was going to attack again.
Yuri shivered lightly before she opened her eyes slowly. She felt awful and cold, barely able to move, just enough so she could wrap herself further in whatever was keeping her warm before becoming aware that someone was next to her, shaking. She couldn't help but smile softly, glad that she wasn't with Enzai anymore and having a vague idea who was next to her. Carefully, she willed herself to at least turn over onto her back, finding it strange but relieving that her injuries were gone, though it still hurt quite a bit to move. She put her hand on Alex's, looking at him, quite glad that he was alright, for the most part.
Alex forgot all about the necklace, turning his attention back to Yuri once he felt her shift. He looked right back at her for a moment before managing a weak smile, pulling the girl close, like a child with an over-sized plushie, and keeping close. He was still shaking; that was something he couldn't really control right now, but he was glad she was alright, and didn't pay much mind to anything else now.
"What's wrong?" Yuri asked, keeping her hand on Alex's. "You seem frightened."
"I just. . .don't know what to do anymore."
Yuri let out a small sigh, trying to think. She wanted to rest more, but she couldn't just yet. "Did something happen?"
At first, Alex thought of not telling her. But after today, he'd rather not keep things from her now. "Weird things keep happening. And I don't want to deal with it anymore. I'm sick of it." He managed to stop shaking, though his hand didn't. "I can never stop people from getting hurt. First Sasha, then Tohru, Shin. . .and now you. And what's worse. . ." Alex paused, wondering if he should explain the rest. He decided against it: "No. Never mind."
Yuri thought for a moment, wondering what she could really say. "Well. . .I'm not sure how I can help with the strangeness. Our towns seem to attract that." She took a deep breath then continued. "As for people getting hurt. . .it's kind of natural. And you can't save everyone all the time. Sometimes it's bad, sure. But. . .sometimes, things just happen and there's nothing you can really do to stop it. I mean. . .if you can, then that's great and all." She closed her eyes, just about ready to pass out again. "But you're only human. And so is everyone else. Accidents are natural, too. So. . .yeah."
"I get that," Alex said quietly. "I get that, but I don't want to lose anyone again. It hurts. . .too much." He shut his eyes, trying to stop the tears that threatened to overflow.
Yuri couldn't move again, she knew that. Even so, she willed herself to face Alex at least, and did so, while also edging close enough so that her head was touching his chest. "I can't really say I understand how it feels to lose someone close. . .but I can say I've had a near experience." She was referring to when Alex had been hurt badly by Dairen, close to death. The image still haunted her sometimes, but she had learned to block it out. "Some things are meant to happen, and there's nothing you really can do to stop it. Which reminds me. . .I'll have to thank whoever helped me out, even if just a little."
Alex didn't say anything more, just wanting nothing more than to disappear on the spot. He couldn't stop the tears flowing, nor did he even try as he held the girl close
Yuri tightened her grip on Alex's hand for a second before just relaxing. She didn't know what else to say, and she was also exhausted, on top of that. She opened her eyes a little, looking back at Alex and wiping away the tears he had before falling asleep again.
Alex watched sadly, though at least she was going to be alright. He, however, still felt like it was his fault that she had suffered. Slowly, he withdrew his arms from around Yuri and sat up, deciding to let her rest properly as he brought his knees to his chest and rested his head on them, unable to sleep. He still didn't feel better all that much; worried, still, that something awful might happen. Was it really worth it to keep fighting? He was starting to think not.
Though it was hard to tell, his eyes were strangely blank.
