On the subject of orbs and/or totems to indicate species (I probably missed a lot of the convo): What if we combine the two in a way. Someone said something about the orbs being glowy, what if they have little visible spirits in them in the shape of whatever breed they'll be? Kinda like seeing things in a crystal ball. The parents can get little peeks of their kids' spirits...Or would that reintroduce the whole "should I RP basket stage" dilemma???
Just a thought. I also really like EPF's customization of the orbs. <3

Elf Princess Flannery the thing i dont like with something like an idol is that it might give away to much, and takes away from the surprise of getting the foal. fertility idols are usually shaped like a person and parts of the body that are reproductive are enhanced (large hips/belly/breasts) i doodled this up kuz i thought it would be cute and it is. but it isnt as customizable as the orb possibility, that could be adorned with all sorts of things to hint at eyes/hair color (pushes orbs at people)  @ roman I just have a hard time imagining the aquatics on land for any lengthy amount of time, i would imagine they could spend a little bit of time on land but wouldnt be able to get very far dragging their tails about. and would probably need to be close and return to water in case they dry up or something :/ -ADORES THAT LIL PONNNNNNNY- 8DDDD;;; We could limit the amount revealed by keeping the figure wooden with smaller accents, and possibly attaching things such as wrapping it in beads, or having feathers, that sort. ouo /loves the doodle <333 I'm just not as in to orbs as much. emotion_kirakira And yes, while thats true, I imagine them in a bubble of water, basically. xD;; Not rolling around or slinking about on the ground, so floating? I'm not very creative, though, sooo I could see how my imagings probably make little no sense.

i think the orbs are just representations of what is to come, like a clue from the spirits to let them know to look for it. i dont think they will be the embodiment of a spirit or foal spirit or what have you.
and although it is a cute, maybe the horse thing can just be a neklace or something, i dont want to use if for reasons i stated. its just to tempting to paint it like the actual foal and diminishes surprise (and i have alot of fun guessing and would hate to take that away)
since the orbs are universal and can apply to anyone and can be customized by accessories, they open it up to breeds that cant normally mate. gay partners, different species. horses and dragons and what ever else can still get the orb marker, and would apply to all of them. like a universal sign that a baby is coming soon. it will be up to you guys to decide how the foal is brought about, either through natural birth, a wishing star, adoption. its more open that way, and the orb stage doesnt need to be rp'd (cause it aint an actual baby) but can rp the excitement/horror of the parents.
i think this way it will be more open to rp and has lots of room for creativity

So... I just read this entire thread. XD And first of all, I'd like to say that those shiny orbs are be-aaa-utiful. I really like the different accessories and such, and I think they could be colored with as much diversity as the baskets we're used to. This kind of goes for any beginning stage with that concept in mind - but I think that the orbs could be interpreted in several ways. Say, for a heterosexual couple, they could be a beacon of foals/babies to come, but for a homosexual/non-breeding couple, it'd be the embodiment of a wishing star type thing and actually hatch. It wouldn't have to like... pop out a fully formed foal or something, but maybe the outer shell could ICly fall away, leaving a sparkling substance that expands and slowly reveals a foal...? Maybe we could use the little totem necklace to denote the species in the case of an interspecies couple? Like a dragon and a horse fell in love - the totem necklace, wrapped around the orb, would represent the species of the wishing star. And it could just look like a hand-carved wooden pendent, draped around the orb/blanket, and the orb could represent coloration.
As for the story, I really adore the idea of a fantasy/futuristic blend. That would explain some modern day accessories, possibly scavenged or crafted by particularly cunning souls, perhaps stumbled on, whatever. I think a way to separate the species without completely limiting their interaction could come down to simple geography - like the Thunderbird herd, who live in the mountain peaks that only they can reach, or the Vanaras, who hide among the trees like the deer they so resemble, so the species could live in their respective places, but only stereotypically. Like, dragons could live near volcanoes, as they can stand the heat and can fly into the cones, but they could also live in the plains - if they want to, they can get there. The same goes for horses; while obviously there are some places that they would physically be unable to go, they could be commonly found in the plains, but could wander mountains, deserts, etc. Mixes, like hippogryphs, hippocampus, etc, could see their range either expanded or limited, depending on the species.
I do have some ideas for stories once the setting is decided upon... I think it'd be cool to see more magic, though I think powers and stuff should definitely be shop-approved before being used in cannon... Idk, I think to a point, it could get out of hand. But with careful monitoring and a system in place from the start, there'd be room to grow if, say, in a meta, a concentration of power were tapped into later and magic began to really flourish and come back to the land that was once ravaged by it... *shrug*
Personally, I'm really, really excited for this! And I'd like to thank all of you guys so much for giving us a new place and a fresh start. ;^;

I want to see these... not as breeding totem thingies but as something completely different... What if they were 'wishing tokens' much like the plushi events done in the past. They would be a little like a visual semi-custom, you wouldn't know what breed or edits you might get, but you could show a colour combination or a pattern you'd like to see. I think it'd be a cute little event that could even have some purpose in RP!

*agrees wholeheartedly* I really like the CYO idea. :3 Would it be possible for (in the future, I s'pose) the creatures to be made with the necklace as an optional accessory? Like how kirins have those necklaces and the dreamcatchers, I guess... Or they could swap them after a lifemating or something, as a mark/reminder of their status...?

Mahogany: That would actually be an adorable idea! They could be 'dream touched' as in they came from a dream. It wouldn't give them any special powers but they would have the necklace on them as a reminder of their origin.

Laroawan AllSummedUpNJazz I have a suggestion that is a little off the current topic but I was wondering if it would be possible to give pets that don't have hands a type of energy or power that I allows them to move an object specific to them? Like a bonded object kind of the thing. ty Take for example the cleaver family from soq. They could freely levitate the blade they are born with in a small radius around them. Or If your equine came from a family of tinkers. He could use a hammer or maybe a screw driver. Perhaps a soq that crafts thins could manage a needle. I really like this idea. I always found it hard to describe exactly how Julius Monrey used his wrench. But what if you just wanted a regular horse without any items? I also like the amphibious mer idea so there could be more interactions between land and water horses. Thats exactly what im talking about. You could always opt for your equine not to have the enchanted object. Take my girl Blake for example. She wouldn't have anything if I got her here. Come to think of it neither would thesh-ah. However if I did get my favorite OC Dr ripper here she would have a scalpel. I would want her to be able to use.
