Kanti was quiet for a moment. She appeared to be deep in thought. Finally she lifted her head and rested it on Sanoskue’s back. “I’d pick you too,” she said, just as quietly.

Sanoskue lay there in silence, enjoying Kanti's company, and not wanting to say anything to ruin the moment.

Kanti closed her eyes, not sleeping, but merely resting. She was still very aware of everything around her, including the faint but steady sound of Sanoskue’s heartbeat nearby and his soft breathing.

Sanoskue yawned soflty, figuring it might be best if he got some sleep right now since there wasn't much else to do, and he was comfortable after all.

“Go to sleep Sanoskue,” Kanti whispered, suppressing a yawn of her own. “Maybe the storm will be over when we wake up and we can find something to eat…” She trailed off as she fell asleep, her head still resting on Sanoskue’s back.

Sanoskue closed his eyes, drifting off to sleep with another small yawn. He was comfortable, warm, and in the company of the one wolf he wouldn't mind being trapped in a cave with for the rest of his life.

Kanti woke suddenly with a shrill yelp of terror. She scrambled away from Sanoskue and backed into a wall of the cave, barely noticing. Her eyes were glazed over as scenes from her nightmare flashed across her vision, blinding her to the real world.

Sanoskue woke with a start as his head went from soft fur to solid rock. He looked around and spotted Kanti in a corner and walked over to her conserned, "Kanti, what is is? What happened?"

Kanti’s vision slowly cleared and she recognized Sanoskue’s voice in her ear. “Oh!” she gasped softly. “It was just a dream,” she muttered, sinking down to the ground and shaking terribly.

Sanoskue laid down next to her and licked her cheek, "Tell me about it, it'll help."

“It was a nightmare,” Kanti whimpered softly. Still shaking and terrified she snuggled against Sanoskue’s side, as close as she could get. “I was like, reliving the bear attack only when it tossed you away, you were covered in blood and you didn’t get up…” Tears spilled out of Kanti’s eyes and dripped off her muzzle. “I didn’t realize it was a dream at first, I thought you were really…” She trailed off, both of them already knowing what she was going to say.

Sanoske smiled and licked her cheek, "But it was just a dream, I'm still here, we're both safe, and we're both going to live long lives." He nuzzled against her cheek softly, trying his best to comfort her.

Kanti nodded slightly. “Yeah, I know. It just scared me, there was so much blood…” She shook her head. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you.”
