Ace closed his eyes and sighed after she said she was fine. That was all he was worried about, he shifted a little in the grass putting a hand behind his head as some sort of comfort while his other layed protecticly over his throbbing side. He looked up at her again when she asked if he was okay. "Yeah, I'm fine," he said without much of anything besides the words in his voice. He didn't have a temper about it, just a bit of disinterst. He closed his eyes again just laying still and trying not to move much with his breathing being shallow and a little faster as he tried to make up for the air he wasn't taking in completely trying to save some pain.

Aesa didn’t note these small indicators of the true level of pain he was in. Blame it on her lack of healing skills or the fact that even after her death-like sleep she was still exhausted and her reflexes weren’t quite what they should be. Feeling that they were past any awkward emotions and confusing silences she crawled over beside him to rest against the incredibly large trunk. Closing her own eyes, she rested her head on his shoulder while she curled her legs to the side and contemplated the strange situation they found themselves in. She was trying valiantly not to let the despair that threatened to overwhelm her get a foothold inside her but it felt like an uphill battle. Ace’s point of contact had turned against him, Marri’s home was a safe house no longer and they had just barely escaped with their lives. Would she ever avenge her mentor and bring his murderer to justice? Her tone was laced with the bleakness that was occupying her thoughts, ”What shall we do now Ace?” She didn’t enjoy feeling this hopeless with him and wished she could take charge of the situation - she simply didn’t know enough about his lower world to be of any real assistance when formulating a plan.

"Sleep, then keep moving in the morning after we get something to eat," he said quietly wrapping his arm around her softly. Rather quickly, exhaustion swept over him again. He fell into a deep and dark sleep that threatened to torture him if he thought to heavily on it or worried about it to much. Which he did. He didn't stir in his sleep other than to tense up occationally in his bad dream. It was of him trying to save Aesa from the men who persued them now. She was screaming for him to save her and keep her safe, crying on how he broke his promise to keep her safe. He started to run after her when his blood spilt in large quantities on the ground with him dropping onto his knees and then to the ground where his vision faded to black.

He woke up at sunrise shaking badly in the sunrise light before he closed his eyes tight and groaned softly rubbing his face. He hated the feeling that he had that made him feel sick. He didn't move though fearful that something worse would come from trying to run away from his imaginary fears.

Aesa nodded her compliance and shifted under his hold while closing her eyes. Further sleep was hardly going to be a hardship for her in her exhausted state - both her physical body and mental state could benefit from the recuperation time. She didn’t question the advisability of sleeping so open in the wooded area when their pursuers were located in the very next town for she knew Ace would not lead her into unnecessary danger. As she slept she was occasionally awoken by his twitches and movings though she simply readjusted her body and fell back asleep.

She would have liked to continue on this way - indefinitely if possible but his shakings that bordered on violent awoke her at day break and she sat up more fully wincing at the kinks in her back. Rubbing the sleep from her one eye she looked at Ace, nodding her head at seeing him awake. She would have liked to have been able to dredge up a smile and a quirky Good morning Master Thief but their circumstances acted like a choke collar on her happier emotions. With a stretch and a small shake of her head to clear the cobwebs she sidled closer to Ace to warm him and hopefully help with his shudders while she waited for his instructions.

Ace looked down and frowned seeing that he'd woken up Aesa. He closed his eyes and laid his head back down in the grass sighing loudly. He let out a weak shaky breath as he laid for a few more minutes. That vision in his head felt so real, sounded so real, looked so real. It scared him. Was he going crazy over this anxiety or was it the truth. He attacked his mind for a few more minutes pondering over this before opening his eyes up again with a sigh. He slowly moved his arm out from under him with his body still trembling a little bit, but much more mild now that he was moving.

"Alright, we are going to have to take an odd route around. They know what I look like, what you do, and so do many others who would gladly sell us out for money. Thieves against a thief and a mage is pretty much pointless unless we make the path the most confusing we can," he said in almost a silent voice as he looked around leaning heavily against the tree. He didn't think he could keep his unharmed act up for much longer without her noticing. He didn't want her to heal him due to getting so tired when she did, but he knew she would the second she knew.

Aesa nodded her head and straightened herself, dusting off her dusty clothes. She had lost her cloak in the water in her mad rush to try and reach the surface, which only caused her to wish she was a bit more eclectic in her abilities. Clearly her lack of healing had already been an issue several times over and now if she had some more talent in transfiguration she could at least make non-permanent changes to their facial features. Enough to allow them passage through areas that were specifically on the look out for their visages. She knew a mage from the Vault who had had such control of his power that he could take on anyone else’s appearance flawlessly. Such was his mastery that he was even able to manage to mimic their vocal cords. Shaking the longing from her thoughts Aesa firmly put herself in the here and now. She had no time for such fancy and if travelling with Ace had taught her nothing it had firmly hit home that she needed to keep her eyes on the prize.

”Is there anyone we can trust Ace?” Marri and Alex were gone, hopefully to safety. Aesa refused to allow herself to spare any energy on worrying for them for Ace had assured her that they would be able to take care of themselves and had been prepared for just such an eventuality. She did regret that Marri had to flee her home though.

Ace looked over at her upon her question before he nodded. There was someone, that was who he was planning to stumble across on the way here. If he was lucky, he was already here. "Lyuath Orelratheal," he said in the same quiet voice but with a bit of an accent to pronounce the elven name, "He's a halfling that I met on one of my heists. He'll help out, as long as he's not in a bad mood or been caught by the other--" His voice was cut off as he spun around drew his blade catching another in his hand and blocking a sword off his own. He crouched down on the ground as the molten green robed man's momentum was caught on his blade along with gravity. Ace snarled as he was forced to his knees and then rolled as the man rolled to the side. Both got up again with anger in each other's eyes. They rushed each other again with their swords echoing loudly in the woods. Ace threw his fist to the side trying to catch the man in the side of the head before he was kneed badly in the gut with both men sinking to their knees panting heavily.

Ace was shaking badly with blood falling from his lips and through the cut in his robe spilling on the ground. His astray blonde hair fell over his face as he groaned trying to get up again.

"Riddley?" the man asked in surprise showing his elvish human face with a smile standing up looking at him then helping his wounded friend to his feet. His short white hair fell across his eyes a little bit with a phoenix feather earring falling over his shoulder. Like usual, he was tall and thin, but he was still muscular from the life of fighting. He grabbed the fallen comrade's cloak and pulled him up making Ace wince and he dropped again to his knees doubled over holding his side breathing heavily now. "What the hell happened to you?" he asked quietly crouching next to him, "And who's your babe?" He smirked up at Aesa as he shook his head and smiled at her. Feeling Ace shutter he looked at his face that had become even more pale now. "Great, only time you wanna visit is when you are gonna die or when you want something," he teased him softly before pulling him up to his feet. He wrapped his arm around his neck as his friend just leaned forward barely on his feet.

"Nice to meet you, mage, I'm Lyuath. Old friend of Ace," he said with a soft smile. He dragged Ace slowly as his head hung down as he carried him. "Um, I suggest you get out of here, perferably with us. He's really sick and he's got a lot of wound issues, so he needs to lay down for a little bit. When he's healthy, I'll help you guys out, till then, come on," he said friendly. Unlike most strangers, he was rather nice and open and didn't have much to hide from many people. He walked quietly not looking back before he found a tree and put his hand to it. He whispered a few words and a door seemed to desolve from the tree.

To say Aesa was taken aback by the abrupt fight would be an understatement. She didn’t have much in the way of time to formulate a spell that would incapacitate Ace’s unknown attacker and not him as well before it stopped as quickly as it had begun. As her shock began to give way to confusion she was overwhelmed with surprise again when the other male addressed her as a ‘babe’. She had never been addressed so in her entire life and she wasn’t wholly sure she cared for it. She wanted to snatch Ace away from the brute but he seemed to be the only thing keeping him from toppling over - though he had helped put him in that state so it was mostly a draw.

As Lyuath introduced himself, Aesa furrowed her brows as she wavered between believing him and not. Again it didn’t seem as though she would have much choice in the matter because what he said regarding Ace and his health was apparently true. Had she been so oblivious not to have noticed his deteriorating health? She had sought to heal him enough to have him carry on until he could be properly taken care of but clearly her measly skills were not up to the task. Obviously this was not the time to be waffling between self-recrimination and doubt as each moment was one Ace didn’t have for her to be wasting. Following Lyuath’s lead she felt her eyebrows rose as he waved aside the illusion of a tree to reveal a hidden door.

Lyuath looked over at her and knew what she was thinking, but didn't voice against her unneeded concern. If she was worried, he would let her. Not every day do people drop out of trees who are friends and attack. He walked with Ace down the spiral stairs caring him more now just to be careful. Once he got down stairs, he whipped a fireball over at a touch and lit it making it glow lighting up the rest of the well decorated thieves' life. He smiled as he walked into a small room off to the side and laid him down on a huge bed. He looked at her Ace and sighed pulling away his clothes and weapons slowly being careful. He didn't know where the wound was but he knew it was bad. Eventually, he got down to his coat and under shirt. As soon as the coat was pulled back, the huge blot of blood could be seen against the white. He looked surprised at the amount of blood he'd lost again, and shook his head getting rid of that emotion.

Even slower now, he cut at the cloth with a knife he had in his belt eventually exposing the wound to the air. Ace gasped painfully as she tensed up badly again shuttering. The wound was long and deep running a sword wound running up his side that was traced in black. Poison. "Where did they get this?" he looked at him in shock shuttering a little bit as he saw him sweaty and ill. He put his fingers to his neck and sighed confirming what it was. He got up quickly and jogged over to the ground water pond that had formed below the tree just out of it's long reach. He gathered it into a cup and ran back to Ace grabbing a silk cloth and soaked it in the freezing water before pouring what was left over the wound. Ace hissed and tensed up but didn't move other than to tighten his grip over the bed.

"Relax, Riddley, it'll be over in a bit. You just have to stay with us here," he said in a soft spoken voice before he held the cloth over his wound. "Do you know how to sew?" Lyauth asked her hoping that she did. If she didn't, he was gonna have to settle for a sloppy job, but he would eventually heal. He didn't think he would be back on his feet in full condition for a while though.

Aesa followed behind, her eyes tracing the path of the thrown flame, some of her questions being answered. As Lyuath went to work on Ace, Aesa found herself fretting in her own mind at her thief’s wellbeing though she refused to allow it to show on her face. On one side this mage certainly had shown a kind hand to Ace though he was partially responsible for the state he was in. As Ace’s body was exposed, Aesa could not stifle the gasp though her hand flew to her mouth as though she could recall the noise. By the time Lyuath returned to clean the wound she was by his side, smoothing Ace’s brow, her eyes all for him and his pained face. How had she overlooked the severity of his wounds? Just because he acted the hero and believed himself invincible she knew it wasn’t the case - going forward she would not be so trusting or careless again.

Lyuath’s words drew her attention, though her hand did not stop in its stroking of Ace’s face. Nodding her affirmation she matched her words to actions, ”I am passable enough.” Here she turned back to her thief - when she began to think of him in a possessive manner was unsure and unimportant. ”I will pull you back together Ace.”

Lyuthan watched her stroke him and try to comfort him watching him relax some actually at her touch. Ace's breathing relaxed a little bit and was less shaky, but he still wasn't in good condition at all. He tensed up again as Lyuath applied more pressure on the wound trying to get the blood to slow down so she could stitch it. "My fault, for not saying anything," he said quietly in a broken apart phrase. He was cold, pale, his heart rate and breathing were slowing down gradually and all his friend knew to do was put another toxin in his system that was less deadly but it would kill the venom along with trying to use leaches to suck out the contaminated blood.

Using that technique, he pulled out a water filled jar and started pulling leaches out quietly and attaching them to Ace's skin then injecting him with more liquids. Ace snarled and tensed up again clenching his hand in the bed sheets, the pain surprisingly was helping to keep him alive as it kept his heart rate up and functioning well. "Come on Riddley, I'm almost done," he said softly looking at his friend as he laid tense with his eyes closed. "I need you to close his wound though if he has any chance. If you don't, he'll bleed to death before the anti-venom has a chance to come into affect," he said in a soft voice continuing to hold a blood soaked cloth to the wound feeling his friend slowly slipping from them as his breathing became shallower and his heart rate slowed more and more.

Aesa nodded her head to Lyuath and moved to the side table to take up the needle and thread that was available there. As gently as she could she brought the torn edges of his skin together so she could begin the unpleasant task of binding them with the thread. She saved all her concentration for the wound in front of her though she couldn’t help the slight twitch of her eye whenever Ace gasped - which he did with uncomfortable regularity. Though it pained her to add to his discomfort she didn’t allow for the tremor that threatened her body to disrupt the neat stitching. She had been trained in basic medical treatment for when she was to be out in the field and she was glad for it now. It was very different from stitching together two pieces of cloth, the skin wanting to slip away as it was slick with Ace’s blood.

After what seemed an eternity she finally cut free the remaining thread and pronounced her work complete. Ace looked even more pale, a feat she would have deemed impossible minutes before. She wished she understood the components of the toxin racing through his blood for given enough time she could study them and incorporate them to her spells. Much like when she drew air and water from a person or article of clothing she was confident she would have been able to do the same with the poison. Though that would have been a much more convoluted and risky spell - it would have taken days of study to perfect,t ime Ace did not have. Her scientific mind couldn’t help turning over the possibilities in her head while she moved to wash her hands before returning to Ace’s head. She looked up to Lyuath and asked him with her eyes instead of verbally if he would recover. She didn’t want to voice her concerns so that Ace would hear them and worry.

He took his post at Ace's side as she stitched his wound closed. "Come on moron, out of everything you've survived through, your gonna let a little knife cut kill you?" he asked softly just crouching next to him. His skin felt hot to the touch and it made him even more worried. This better work or his death was going to be slow and painful. He silently prayed to every god he could think of to keep him here and Aesa as well. Once she was done, he couldn't help but let a small sigh of relief at this looking over at her. Ace clenched his hand tightly around the side of the bed wincing a little bit as he just hurt so much. More than he had in a long time. This wasn't something he did on a daily basics and he didn't have any immunity built up to animal venom as there weren't many animals or creatures around to have to worry about. Only man made toxins.

Lyuath looked up into her pleading eyes and sighed slightly. "I don't know, I hope so, but I can't promise anything. This kind of venom isn't exactly easy to get over. Only if we wait is when we are gonna get results. The best we can do is fight off the symptoms, but not much more," he said standing to go get a clean cloth to try and cool his fever leaving her and Ace alone. He'd calmed down a lot but was still in pretty bad shape. He wasn't wincing much any more, but he was still terribly pained. He didn't open his eyes or voice it, though he found great comfort in her touch as it left him something else to think about other than this.

It seemed she needn’t have worried about speaking her thoughts out loud for Lyuath simply answered her, instead of pantomiming his response. It wasn’t exactly the reassurance she had been hoping for though she was glad he gave her honesty instead of false hope. Not caring that the other mage saw or what conclusions he may draw she leaned down and kissed Ace on his clammy forehead before setting about the task of gathering a spare cloth that was clean and laid out on the table, wetting it in the available water and returning to gently mop his brow. A sense of déjà vu came over her as she had been in this exact position with him in the not very distant past and she fervently hoped that this wouldn’t prove to be a habit. As she continued with her ministrations she quietly prayed to the differing Gods she believed in - she was an odd mixture of faith and science, just like her magic.

After she let the silence reign for a period of time, Aesa raised her head to look at Lyuath. She was very glad of his quick thinking and assistance though she was still frustrated with him for taxing Ace. Logically she knew it wasn’t his fault as he couldn’t have foreseen the extent of the damage Ace had sustained and if she was being honest with herself she would know it was guilt that drove her ill feelings for not having noticed herself. ”And so we will wait. Ace had told me you were trustworthy and that is all the recommendation I require. Thank you for tending him so well. I am Aesa .” She offered up no further introductions though she would answer any questions he might have to the best of her ability. She wasn’t sure what information Ace had been intending on giving to this man.

{{Do you want to time skip to when he's on his feet again?}}

Lyuthan just watched her take care of him and wished he could do more for his friend, but he was pacient. He knew in due time he would be on his feet again and irritatedly be walking around before he should. That was always like him and it probably would forever be. He picked his head up out of his thoughts and looked up at Aesa as she spoke and he nodded at. "Lyuthan, a friend of Ace--as you call him--from a while back. I don't understand why you call him that though, must have gotten into some trouble a while back. I hadn't seen him in years so I apologize for attacking. I couldn't recognize him in his coat," he said softly. He traced over his friend's bare torso seeing the scars and knew they held secrets he probably refused to tell as he kept them locked them away.

He stood up and feld his friends cheek, and took his pulse again sighing before getting up to leave the room. "I'm going to make some breakfast, join me if you want some," he said in a hushed tone as if it would disturb the now asleep Ace while he fell into dreamland.
