Even though they don't have as much cool or cute stuff as they use to, I still enjoy going in there and looking at their selection. I do have to admit they have gone downhill a little, but they're still pretty good in some aspects (like cute as heck accessories)

Ha, I live in Canada and we've never had a Hot Topic. But sometimes I wish we did. You CAN get good stuff from Hot Topic stores, just most likely accessories and not actually jsk or blouses.

Here we have only a few stores that sell anything Gothic or Lolita, and they are close too 400 without being brand name things.

I personally have never found something from Hot Topic that I just had to have, so my opinion is it's just like any other store.

This subject is everywhere. xD
I personally like Hot Topic, but not for lolita.
Some shoes and small things might be good for gothic lolita, but other than that, not so much.
Most of the things just aren't solid enoug for lolita.

Though I do shop there when I get most of my casual clothes.
I really like Tripp pants. And I mean the baggy ones with the chains and such. They amuse me and I like the baggyness and length xD

I saw some things around Halloween time, like a coat, that I desperately wanted. It looked like it was made to be warn over some sort of poofy skirt and it made me go 'squee!'
xD

Voltaire just came on my iTunes. . . I am happy. . .

Hey everyone!
Here are my opinions-

Together, i don't think J-Fashion and Hot Topic go, but that all depends on what J-Fashion your into and what clothing items you think will suit your style. If, for example, you like the Oshare Kei fashion, than Hot Topic would probably be a very good place for you to find casual, bright clothing that is of high quality. But, i would not recommend Hot Topic for a Lolita who doesn't dress Erololi or Lolita punk. Although, accesories may be an exception, for all Lolitas.

I don't believe that the people/brands who supply Hot Topic's clothing are true J-Fashionist. I believe that they are supplying for the Skater, Punk, Scene, and Goth fashions, and it just so happens that Lolita is. . . somewhat related to all of these fashions, if that makes sense.

I believe that some of the clothing at Hot Topic are close to Lolita fashion, but from what i have heard (i have not bought anything that i would use for Lolita at Hot Topic) Hot Topic does not provide Lolita quality items. I also believe that they don't provide quality put-together/sewn Lolita-like items. It appears to me that they (lace, ribbon, etc) would easily fall off or tear.
Thanks for hearing my thoughts!

Love~

I will admit I am not a very good lolita because I cannot afford anything really but hot topic does have a few things that would work for lolita. I try to avoid the clothing because anything they have in my store would make a slutty lolita and I wanna stay away from that. Hot topic is a good place to get your jewelry, makeup, and hair supplies when you have a somewhat cheep budget. The stuff goes on sale mosst often there. Gloves are also a nice thing to get there but be warned the lace and fishnet ones fall apart fairly easy. Hot topic needs to stop mainstreaming because it used to be a store of individuality and now everyone shops there(Except my step mom. She is scared of the place after the last time I took her in there...three years ago.) I do know that a lot of workers do not like Lolita style. I have been in six times dressed as a lolita and every single one of them looked at me like I was insane.

I'd also recommend Claire's, the Icing and Forever21 for accessories, jewelry, and headbands. All three are very fixated right now on headbands with bows, ribbons, and other lovely decorations that work well with lolita, and jewelry is always one of the most versatile parts of the fashion. So long as it suits the theme of your outfit, or has a cute aesthetic, it works. :3

I love F21's rose rings, bobby pins and other jewelry. Their prices are also very fair for what you're buying.

I don't hate hot topic, I do shop there for the clothes I wear to school and up-n-about places. I do hate the fact on how now they mainly cater to the scene look, instead of having more of a clothing genre variety. I also do think that 99.9 percent of the time, if it's from hot topic, it's not lolita. Now you may be able to use pieces from there to help coordinate with your loli out fit, but I wouldn't take on of their dresses, or one of their plastic boned blouses and miniskirts with a crinoline in it and call it lolita, at all. I'd say the most lolita think I've seen there, were the jewlery and acessories. Now, their clothing isn't actually bad quality, but, I do think there jewlery is. Every time I get a choker/or necklace, it ends up breaking. But other then that, hot topic is ok, but I wouldn't ever buy anything for lolita there.

Mallgawf/scene is their target audience, so most of their stuff isn't going to fit loli. However, I love their TRIPP clothes, which could sometimes be mixed in with kodona or punk lolita and are made with hq heavy material. I know they has a few vests out last year that were epic either style. Some of their shirts could also be good for loli. SOME.
Of course, they also have a good supply of random things to stick in your hair too ♥

    tl;dr
Its a hit-miss thing with HT, but that aint gonna stop me ;D

I hate the "Lolita" clothes in HT.. The people who design these clothing obviously don't know what they're doing half the time. =/ The only time I buy something from there anyway is if I'm buying accessories, or nail polish.
And that's only if I'm willing to spend that much money on that crap. Typically I only buy from the clearance, and have found a few good things.

I don't like hot topic all that much anymore. They used to have OK clothes that were readily available, but most of its junk these days. The boning is horrible in corsets, and unless you have no boobies or no fat on your body, it really won't do you much good. I think there are some "gems" to be found there, but for the most part I don't like it. Of course, it's all in how you make it look. You can say that Hot Topic "lolita" clothes are cheap and flimsy, but aren't the clothes you hand make "cheap" as well?
PostPosted: Fri Sep 18, 2009 10:02 pm

The distinction between HotTopic's "cheap" and handmade being "cheap" is that HotTopic is poor quality. You pay a price tag that doesn't match the product. The word "cheap" in that instance refers to a lack of value in the quality, rather than the price itself.

Handmade items may be inexpensive, but not "cheap" in the same sense as HotTopic.

Ha ha.. I recently went on a rant with a friend of mine about hot topic's crap. Yeah, I said crap :/ I absolutely believe you can find nice accessories and things there, if you look hard enough. My hot topic when I lived in michigan rocked - I actually found a shirt that could pass for a very toned down street-style loli, or something you'd wear if you didn't want to be made fun of by insensitive people..

but it also cost twenty-seven dollars.

it wasn't worth that price.

and I think my mother threw it out.

What I am sick of is those creepy "petticoats" that people enjoy wearing over their jeans/TRIPP pants. I think TRIPP is cool, but... not with those.. inhuman.. baby killers... on top. Lolita is not a petticoat over jeans. You are not supposed to even show your entire petticoat, let alone put it over jeans, run around the mall with your equally stupid friends, and declare yourself a lolita.

I don't care about people dressing in what they think makes them feel good, but I feel hot topic is supporting the bad name american lolitas are given. Unfortunately, you can't put a law on wearing clothing like that, so it is essentially the people who buy the clothes that make lolitas cringe, but...

I personally don't care if people buy anything else from that store (well, unless it's made from shiny fabric..), and I think anyone is allowed to shop there. Yes it is more mainstream and all kinds of people go there now, but I don't think that itself is a bad thing. A lot of the comments here are based on what the people are wearing. Like, "Oh crap she's wearing something from american eagle HOT TOPIC BELONGS TO THE PREPS NOW", etc. I absolutely adore lolita and would wear lace and frills every day if I could, but in reality I -can't-. Sometimes I see a shirt that a "prep-emo-skater-punk-jock-nerd" would wear, and I wear it. Whatever. I shop at hot topic sometimes for those cute tees everyone is snapping up. There's nothing wrong with that. I will wear a "prep"'s shirt one day, and all black the other, or maybe some overalls the next.

That's a lie. I don't own a single pair of those.

What I am trying to say is don't judge the people who are shopping there by what they wear UNLESS it is apparent they are giving loli a bad name. Otherwise, don't associate hot topic with them..

.. even though hot topic sells tutus for american whores ♥

But I certainly believe you can find something there..

you're just better off finding something better on bodyline or something. Just make sure your skirts aren't too short, loves~

uh this is my first post 8D I basically wrote an essay that doesn't make sense yay~

Why a small part of Belle still luffles Hot Topic:

'Nuff Said.

I mean, where else am I gonna get these?!?! But I agree with the quality thing. You have to search to find things that go well with lolita, or really any classy style, but when you find them, sometimes it's really really worth it. And they have a lot of fun stuff too.

I mean SRSLY! I can open Fat Tires like THAT *gestures with foot* !!

Hot Topic used to have some really cool stuff...now it has a few cool things mixed in with NEON tutu crinolines, which I hate, especially when people wear them outside of their clothes (I'd be fine, if they wore worn tastefully outside of decora outfits, but not by little scene kids.) I've found some cute stuff there before, but it's rare now. I also only shop on the sale racks now.

Once, I did but a really nice blouse from them with tiny vertical black and gray stripes. I wear it with casual and love its poofy sleeves, 3/4 inch diameter black buttons, and mandarin collar. $8 and best thing that I've found there! I also found a great punk lolita skirt for $8. (heh, that seems to be my magic price!)

I feel ashamed to admit it, but I like their slutty Alice costumes around Halloween (But that's just because I like Alice.). I always find myself walking out of Hot Topic saying, "If only their skirts were knee length!"
