Trying to think of what to remove to remove Can't Lie. THinking my Quick and Rank 2 Meditation.
Also, my knowledge of the setting is little, so backstory isn't going to be fancy.

Without much background knowledge in the game, you'll be fine more or less just describing your childhood, especially if you are a young samurai not long out of your gempukku (coming of age) ceremony.

Hrrm...is meditation a skill that came with your school? If you only need to remove three points, then dropping meditation alone should do it.

How about swapping Can't Lie for a Phobia? Or Sworn Enemy?
Or if in doubt, Unlucky?
Bad Fortune is good to throw in if you like surprises, and paired with a 2-point disadvantage.
Or you can do what I did with my first samurai idea ever! Take the Missing Limb disadvantage four times! Though you do lose 2 points since you can't gain over 10...

Yeah... Unless you really enjoy coming up with backstory and researching, I'd suggest not being as in-depth as I'm getting. XD It also helps that I'm somewhat familiar with Feudal Japan (and Japan in general). Who knows how much money I've spent on books related to it- Because I know that I sure don't! XD

Isn't it nice to put all of this stuff to use? wink There are three of us atleast going whole hog on the samurai theme.
As far as recommendations, I'd go with Brash and Bad fortune. They seem a perfect way to gain three points for a duelist.

Bad fortune costs one point and the DM gets to roll 1d10. You get to find out when it's too late. the inconveniences are all fairly minor.
Brash means you're hot headed and need to beat a 20 TN vs. your honor to avoid doing something when insulted.
