*Kero smiles*

I like the dark, Pasa...I lived in it for many, many, many, many years. Okay...Pasa, I usually punish, except for specific things, from a list of five my master and my parents used. Punishment writing, Extra chores, Loss of Privileges, Grounding, and Spanking. I'll let you decide from there....I don't really deem a prank specific enough to warrant some special punishment I cook up.

The boy wrinkles his nose. "I don't like spankings... and I'm already writing... what is grounding anyway... I never heard of it before."

*Kero smiles*

Well, you're not supposed to like Punishments...but to answer your question, grounding is like loss of privileges, except, instead of losing your dessert, or something of that nature, you lose the privilege of going outside to play. If you were grounded, you would stay in these caverns for some amount of time. I usually don't go longer than a week to the caverns. Make sense?

Pasa shrugs. "Not much of a punishment, mes'sirrah. I could find plenty of things to do inside. I guess you better give me more chores. Or it won't be a punishment then."

*Kero nods*

Very well, and usually Grounding accompanies a loss of privileges as well, to answer your question. As well, those things would get old after a few days stuck in here, believe you me. As for your chores, what else do you think you can do?

Passura blinks at him. "What privileges would I lose? I don't all that much in here anyway except read and do my copy work. And I am supposed to do my copy work as part of my punishment so I don't think you would take that away." He sighs and says, "I guess I could help the Singer with his chores. There is not that much to do over here, but he has lots of stuff he needs to do."

*Kero nods, his face thinking*

Ye know, yer right.....for ye, there really isn't all that much ye do, and I don't believe in taking away books...never have. So really, it comes down to extra chores, writing, and spanking. And I make you copy so you learn to read even better, Pasa. You're doing really well, and I want you to be the best you can be. Reading is an amazing thing, my son. It will open many doors to wonderful new worlds for you.

Now, as for Tam, while you are wonderful with the babes, I really don't know if that is a good idea...Amestru pointed out something to me, Pasa. Tam and Bez have to learn to deal with the babes on their own, but at the same time, they need someone close by. The point is, they need to learn to do things on their own, and so I have to say no, you can't go over and help them as punishment. And there aren't that many chores in here, either...

*Sinks into thought, considering what the next move he makes should be...Pasa is beginning to get a little worried when Kero blinks and comes out of his trance*

Don't worry, Pasa...I'm fine. That's just the trance I sink into when I need to consider all the options, and all the possible outcomes. I have narrowed down a number of our choices. 1) We simply keep the punishment as is, and you fish the streams when they are full. 2) You go with Bez...not likely. 3) And I'm sorry about this, Pasa....but the only choice I can see, considering how few chores there are to do in these caverns, is to turn you over my knee. I hate going back on my word, Pasa...but that's the only feasible choice I can see, as there are no extra chores I can think to give you.

Passura frowns at this. "Punishments may not seem fair, but they should be given out fairly. I will continue to try and gather fish, mes'sirrah, and I will hope to gather enough, for that is the punishment you gave me. It would not be right to change it at this point... as I've already performed quite a bit of it, have I not?"

*Kero nods...his eyes turning gray again...then he snaps his fingers*

No...I have a better idea....Bez shall catch the fish....but you shall clean them! And prepare the meat for storage. I said a hundred pounds you caught, but that kind of work is worth 1:1 ratio. Whatever you clean shall count towards the total. Does that sound like a better deal, since I don't want to clear out that stream?

The boy nods. "I've been cleaning all my fish anyway and putting them out in either salt or to dry. So I don't mind, mes'sirrah... I'm not squeamish like some of my kin."

*Kero smiles*

It's just as well, Pasa....I don't like punishing people...not one bit. I would have hated hitting you, with all my heart.

*Fixes his eyes on his*

But don't think that doesn't mean I won't. Tam was against it as well, and he did a couple of times. I will too, if you give me reason. So please, don't give me a reason.

"Yes, mes'sirrah... I will try to endeavor not to anger you again." says the boy in a subdued voice.

*Kero shakes his head*

No, Pasa....don't try not to anger me. Be yourself. I try not to physically punish unless one of three things happens. 1) You've hurt someone else physically. 2) You've put yourself in mortal danger, knowingly. 3) There is no other viable option for punishment needed at that point. Don't do any of those, and you'll be fine. Make sense?

"I... I think so... may I go outside now. I need to check the drying racks." says Passura quietly, but Kero suspects he just wants to end the conversation. He has been growing more and more anxious through their discussion.

*Kero looks at him*

Let me ask you one thing, first....is there something bothering you about me? And if so, what?
