Shosuro Naizen would nod to the Kaiu. "As to be expected," he would say, awaiting Kagae's first move.

Expecting something deceptive begun a standard spearhead assault formation of pawns.

@ Athletics Competition:
Kojiro's Turn:
Bayushi Kojiro would start with the lightest stone, lifting it easily over his head! Dropping the supposed pebble, he moved on to the next rock, and found it equally easy to handle!
Kojiro was getting cocky, and was surprised at the weight of the third stone. After taking a few deep breaths, he managed to hoist it over his head for the required duration!
He tried on the fourth rock, lifting it, but finding the strain too much for his arms to handle, as he dropped the stone. Again, he lifted it, but its weight proved too much. He tried with his last attempt to succeed, but had found the limits of his strength.

Naizen would seem unimpressed by the tactic, and readied a counter maneuver vs the Crab's attack! {1 raise declared, 17 vs TN 15, Kagae's TN is increased by 5!}

As always Kagae would attempt to scare off any threat with a show of power by placing his power pieces in a counter to his counter.
(Spending the banked raise to decrease Kagae's TN. Calling another two raises. One banked one to raise Naizen's TN some more. 5k3 Battle vs. TN 15 Result: 14 )

Zanzen's Turn:
Identical to the prior competitor's turn, Kakita Zanzen would make short work of the first two stones, showing that he is no frail weakling!
Though the third stone WAS heavier than he expected it to be. His first try failed to get it above his eye level; the second attempt, not even that high. He was too exhausted by the third one, unable to elevate the stone at all.
All this heavy lifting was NOT what he was trained for...

One can only counter so many times, and Naizen apparently was not intimidated by the show, as his original counterattack began to decimate Kagae's first line. {1 raise, 22 vs TN 15, Kagae's TN is increased by 5!}

@Shogi competition
Kagae imagined his lines being decimated and of them losing morale so he reformed then into a hopefully defensive blob with the power pieces providing support.

@ Athletics Competition:
Susumu's Turn:
Susumu would spit on both hands, rubbing them together as he approached the first rock. "Sayoko, you picked the wroonnggg competition. I'll avenge Hisashi's loss!" He would then easily hoist the rock over his head. {19 vs TN 5!}
With one hand, he would move to the next stone, and hold it over his head, seemingly effortlessly! {24 vs TN 10!}
Momentum was on Susumu's side, as he gave a broad grin to the Crane, and hoisted the third rock like it was nothing! {33 vs TN 15!}
As Kojiro watched, Susumu would get to his troublesome stone. Surely, the Mantis would have just as much trouble as him. But, with minimal effort, Susumu would get it over his head, barely shaking from the sustained effort! As the time elapsed, he would clap his hands and move to the next stone! {22 vs TN 20!}
Susumu would already have the lead, and he seemed please at that. He would bend his knees and begin to lift the fifth stone; but, his limits seemed to be reached now, as he proved to have trouble getting it above his chest. {19 vs TN 25!]
He would attempt a second time after a quick breather. Wrapping his fingers around it, he would elevate it to his chest, but it would slip from his grasp. "Damnit... Come on, Susumu-sama, you can do this!" {19 vs TN 25!}
He would grit his teeth and groan from the strain as he lifted... lifted... lifted the stone above his head! But he was not able to sustain the effort, dropping it, panting! {23 vs TN 25!}
"Well, let's hope it's enough!" he said aloud to no one on particular, and moved over to the rest of the samurai, grinning like the neko that ate the kanaria!

Shosuro Naizen gains a banked raise!
Kaiu Kagae has 0 banked raises. TN 10 Shosuro Naizen has 2 banked raises. TN 10
Kagae would be on the receiving end of something rather disconcerting... was his own strategy being used against him? It seemed odd that Naizen's moves seemed to be exactly what HE would do in his opponent's position.
That didn't stop things from growing more difficult, however. "Knight takes Rook," the Shosuro would say as his leapt over the defending pawns and snagged the power piece. {1 raise, 26 vs TN 15, Kagae's TN is increased by 5!}

Recoiling from the aggressiveness of the moves made and possibly the fact that Naizen had based his strategy off of his he begun some extreme measures of risking some pieces in hope to stave off his opponent.

@ Athletics Competition:
Sayoko's Turn:
Horiuchi Sayoko would waste no time moving in to assert her dominance over Susumu, and consequently, everyone else. Without words, she would proceed to the first rock, making mincemeat out of it! {25 vs TN 5!}
She would then grab the second rock in her hands, hoisting it over her head like she was going to throw it at someone. But after the elapsed time, she would simply put it back down. {23 vs TN 10!}
Though, perhaps she was also getting cocky, as she overstrained herself on the third rock! {13 vs TN 15!} She would let it go, letting it fall as she was off balance.
"Ha!"
A vicious glare would be shot to Susumu as Sayoko grabbed the rock and really DID look like she was going to throw it at him! {29 vs TN 15!}
... and she did. Susumu would actually throw himself out of the way to avoid getting pegged by the stone, which would cause Raicho to intervene. "Are you two children finished? This isn't Kemari, so stop acting like you're playing games!" Susumu seemed admonished by the magistrate's words, but Sayoko seemingly ignored them, moving on to the fourth rock!
Sayoko struggled on her first attempt to lift, breathing heavily. {10 vs TN 20!} It was a pretty heavy rock, and Kojiro could testify to that!
"..... damn..." Susumu would mutter as, bending down with her knees, Sayoko would slowly, slowly elevate it upwards, holding it above her head, before letting it fall after the appropriate time had passed! {27 vs TN 20!}
Moving on to the fifth rock, she began to compete for the first ranking position. If she succeeded, Susumu would lose his advantage in this event! She would have some difficulty getting it over her chest on her first attempt however, groaning in the attempt. {22 vs TN 25!}
She seemed to get winded, and was unable to lift it over her core on her second attempt, forced to drop the thing between her feet! {15 vs TN 25!}
She would once more attempt to elevate it, but its weight proved to great and she would drop it, finally losing. {16 vs TN 25!}
She would then walk away, leaving the rest of the samurai to contemplate this outcome!
FEATS OF STRENGTH SCOREBOARD Yoritomo Susumu 4th stone, 23 on 5th Horiuchi Sayoko 4th stone, 22 on 5th Bayushi Kojiro 3rd stone, 11 on 4th Kakita Zanzen 2nd stone, 5 on 3rd

"I suppose it's my turn then," Denbe didn't seem especially thrilled, nor discouraged. Strength was not his strong suit, and of all the competitions he'd been offered, this was one of the ones he'd been less confident of. After all- almost everyone here was at least slightly larger than the Hare, and most of the other events he at least had a small amount of experience in.
Approaching the first rock, Denbe bent to put his arms around it, and made sure to get his legs and back set right before lifting it- this first one at least he was sure he could do just fine as long as he didn't hurt himself before the harder ones.
