 "To live is to slowly be born."_____________________________Embergaze_____________________________[Embergaze looked around, his eyes wide. It was his first time being in such a long congregation since the madness. He used to be shy and unsociable, so it was likely most cats didn't remember him or recognize him, so he lumbered forward as if he was a kitten lost in the forest. A very...big kittens. With muscles. And claws. And...fangs.
It all seemed too strange.
He sighed, but spotted a tricolored she-cat he hadn't seen in ages. Pricking his ears, he recognized Purekit, the little kitten from NightClan. He had met her once on border patrol. She was the slightly over-energetic daughter of Lavenderstar, he remembered, though it was obvious she had grown since then. He sniffed the air. And she was a queen! But it was faint...she must have kitted a while ago. Approaching her, he emerged from the shadows, a bulking mass of muscular shyness.]
"Pure...paw?" he called.
The she-cat turned around, pricking her ears, and called in a friendly manner, "Embergaze! It's Puresun now. How have you been?"
[Embergaze padded forward, his muscles rippling as he moved forward. His whiskers twitched and he nodded a bit awkwardly to the other warriors.]
"I've been well," he murmured softly. "Recently recovered from a...mishap, but I'm fine."
[He wasn't sure whether or not to mention the birds kidnapping him, or let alone the birds themselves, but he sighed and decided it was best not to. Puresun, however, narrowed her eyes and looked him over, noticing his large gash.]
"Oh my," she murmured suspiciously. "I wonder what could have made that."
[She was referring to the large gash on his thigh. He did his best not to let his ears lie flat, but they trembled unhappily.]
"It was nothing," he said embarrassedly. "Who's with you?"
[Of all of the scars to notice, she notices my most conspicuous one... he thought a bit frustratedly.
Puresun glanced at the cats around her and blinked.]
"Oh excuse me, how impolite. This is my Clanmate, Eaglesoar, and a warrior I just met, Dragonfire from SeaClan," Puresun said cheerfully. [She seemd to have forgotten about the gash on Embergaze's leg. He let out an inward sigh of relief.] "Dragonfire's a gladiator," Puresun added knowingly.
Blinking, Embergaze asked, "Wh...what's a gladiator? he asked. Puresun shrugged. "I dunno," she stated.
[Embergaze stared at her, then chuckled. She hadn't changed much, that was for sure.
He looked over at the two other cats. They were both big and muscular, and covered with scars.
I guess I've found the right group of cats, he thought amusedly, glancing at his own massive and scarred body (though these cats had significantly more scars).]

CHERRYPAW "Oh, cool. I couldn't imagine being surrounded by trees. It would be like a nightmare!"[She shivered, imagining being surrounded by tall trees in a deep dark forest. Cherrypaw quickly shook her head, and smiled again.]"Fish is pretty good. I prefer water voles though. I actually caught a mouse today!"[She flicked her tail and accidentally hit Lustrepaw. Embarrassment clouded her mind.]"Oh, sorry! I didn't mean to hit you with my tail.."

"Good riddance," she spat after him, her pelt bristling. Glancing at Mosstar, she sighed angrily, "I'm sorry, Mosstar, but if I ever catch him on my side of the border, I'm going to rip his fur off."
Silverstar chuckled and added, "I'd do the same if any cat crossed my border."
[Lavenderstar glanced back at her, narrowing her eyes. Silverstar met her gaze readily.]
Chuckling, Lavenderstar asked darkly, "Are you implying something, Silverstar?"
Silverstar blinked and responding readily, "Of course not, Lavenderstar. StormClan is always ready to defend its borders from intruders."
Snorting, Lavenderstar said, "There's no need to warn me of anything, Silverstar. I have no intention of stealing borders; such things are for greedy-hearted cats. Besides, I wouldn't deprive any Clan of much-needed land for their elders and kits. I wouldn't want that to happen to my own Clan in a hundred moons."
[Silverstar narrowed her eyes and said nothing, but seemed to ponder what Lavenderstar said.]
"Wise words," she said simply, looking away.
Galestar chuckled and said with a bit of an edge in his voice, "Interesting conversation, ladies, but can we get the gathering started?"
[Lavenderstar looked at him, a bit annoyed, but was eager to start as well so she stood. Silverstar narrowed her eyes at him, and he stared back. Something seemed to become realized between the two, and Silverstar nodded to him respectfully before looking away.

[The gladiator tilted her head.] "Warrior code. Well if you mean that you aren't supposta kill everyone you meet and you have to use your words instead of your claws to say hello then yes, i have learned the warrior code. Its much nicer then my old code if i do say so myself. Still getting the hang of it..."
[The fiery she cat turned her attention back to Eaglesoar.] "You were born in the clans, in the wild? Thats amazing! You are the first wild cat i have seen just as scratched up as i am! I thought stuff like that only happened back home!" She said in disbilife. Maybe the wild could be just as harsh as the ring. ... maybe.] "A fox? I got my scar from a fight with a wolf. Its kinda like a fox, only bigger. I plan t have a rematch with him when he shows his cowardice face again..." [She growled under her breath, looking away.] Never again...
[Her attention returned once yet another cat wandered up to them. This new cat seemed to know Puresun. Dragonfire whipped her tail back and forth, giving him a sly smile as a greeting.] "Why hello there mate. Yes, I am a gladiator. I have noticed that you clan cats dont seem to know much of us. Gladiators a special type of warrior. Every day and night we would be bet on by war gods, or two legs as you shellas like to call em, and we were to fight an enemy to the death until we either could live on or you ran out of enemy's to fight. It was an alright life as long as you could keep up with it. You havta learn fast if you want to live through kittenhood." [She said in a mater of fact tone as she spoke of her world.]

[Cindermoon turned her head back toward Foxclaw as he spoke. She could hear that he was uncomfortable in the tone of his voice, but had expected it. They had never really talked before and they were in different clans, who wouldn't be uncomfortable? The StormClan deputy offered the tom a small smile and tilted her head.] "StormClan has been good, we've had many new apprentices and kits. How has NightClan fared?" [she asked politely. Foxclaw reminded Cindermoon of herself when she was younger, antisocial and quiet. Though she had learned that the best way to get a cat to come out of their shell, was to get them to talk. It had worked for her, maybe it would work for Foxclaw. As Pebbleheart spoke, Cindermoon turned back to the she-cat. She nodded and smiled softly at the new deputy, wnating to make her feel welcome.] "Well, congratulations Pebbleheart. I'm sure you'll make BreezeClan very proud. It might seem hard at first, but you just have to put your best paw forward and try your hardest," [the blind she-cat mewed encouragingly and pricked her ears as she picked up parts of the leader's conversations. It seemed that the Gathering was going to be starting soon. That would be good. Normally, Cindermoon enjoyed the Gatherings but something just felt off today. Though, she quickly brushed that feeling aside and decided to enjoy herself instead of worrying.]

[Hauntedheart was snapped from her thoughts as Moonblaze sat beside her. She glanced over at the StormClan medicine cat and nodded in greeting. She hoped the she-cat wouldn't want to speak, but, clearly, she had been mistaken.] "I'm fine, why wouldn't I be?" [she snapped harshly, not interested in socializing at all. In her entire lifetime, she could never understand how cats could enjoy a Gathering. All it was a much of noisy apprentices, gossiping warriors, and leaders sharing news. Honestly, Hauntedheart could care less if a kit named Wingedkit became an apprentice or a apprentice became a warrior. She had no interest in any of it whatsoever.]

I got to introduce you to these other guys. Their really nice and cool and all that."[She pointed her tail over at Smokepaw.]"This is Smokepaw, of Breezeclan."[She then pointed to Lustrepaw and Dawnpaw.]"This is Lustrepaw, and the white she-cat with the really cool eyes is Dawnpaw, both from Stormclan."

[Dragonfire turned sharply at the sound of a sweet, familiar voice. She smiled kindly at the sight of her beloved sister.] "Pheonixice! The gathering is interesting! Did you know that all the cats here are under a truce, that means none of them can fight each other! Isn't that so cool!" [The fiery cat mewed in excitement to the cool, icy she cat. She purred quietly as her sister sat next to her.]
"Oh, fellas, this is my sister, Pheonixice. She helped me fit into seaclan and make it home. Say hello!" [She said proudly showing them her beautiful sister. She noticed that she had grown thinner.] Hmm, i think i will give her that plump squirrle i caught on my hunting challenge. That will have to wait until we get back to Seaclan though, i dont want her to have to share it with anyone, i caught it for her and her alone!"

[I stared in shock at Dragonfire.]
"How horrible!" I cried at her mentioning of the arena. "You're saying you've killed cats before?"
[I looked the cat over a few times, and there was a pause. Then I grinned.]
"You must've been really strong to have survived that long!" I declared. "If I was born in the arena, I woulda died really soon. I was the runt of my litter, and probably the smallest type of cat alive or something. I'm still pretty short, for a full-grown cat, but anyway. Life in the Clans are definitely different. You can meet new cats and be friends with 'em without having to kill them after that. Plus, you can go skygazing!"
[I grinned, nodding to Phoenixice.]
"Hi there," I chirped, "I'm Puresun. This is my Clanmate, Eaglesoar, and my friend, Embergaze."
Turning to Dragonfire, I continued casually, "The sky is beautiful. You should watch the sun rise sometime. It's awesome! But don't watch it set-that's too depressing."
[I tilted my head, shaking it in amusement.]
"No, the warrior code isn't just not killing other cats," I purred. "You really are clueless. But that's okay. Took me a while to learn the whole code too."
[Suddenly an idea struck me. Standing, I padded closer to the she-cat.]
"Here. I'll tell you about the code. But first, I'll show you a custom in the Clan called sharing tongues."
[I settled close to the she-cat and began to groom her wild fur down, my soft tongue lapping over her scars gently as I groomed her fur.]
"We groom each other's pelt while we share stories," I said between strokes. "You can get closer to cats this way. I bet you never did this in the arenas!"
Purring, I continued, "So like I said there's more to the warrior code. First off, you can have friends in other Clans, but your Clan comes first before any other loyalty. We die for our Clans. You also can't hunt or trespass onto another Clan's territory; this way, each Clan gets their own chunk of territory to live off of. Elders, queens, and kits are fet before warriors, and apprentices usually can't eat until the elders have been fed. You also can't eat prey before bringing some back home to the Clan. A kit has to be six moons to become an apprentice, because they're mature and strong enough to begin learning. Prey is killed only to be eaten, and we give thanks to StarClan for its life. Newly appointed warriors sit vigil for a night after they are given their name-they can't speak at all! A cat has to have mentored one apprentice before becoming deputy, and the deputy becomes leader once the old leader dies. After the death or retirement of a deputy, a new one must be chosen before moonhigh. A warrior rejects the soft life of a kittypet. A warrior must always help a sick or hurting kitten, whether or not it is Clanborn or from one's own Clan. Boundaries must be checked every day, and we're allowed to challenge trespassers. A gathering is held every full moon, under which there is a truce which cannot be broken. Finally, an honorable warrior does not kill another warrior to win their battles, unless the other cat is outside the warrior code or it's necessary for self-defense."
[I purred and continued purring, acting casually as if I hadn't just poured a ton of information out.]
"It'll take a while to learn, but your clan should help you if you need to remember it."

Fight to the death everyday, that sounded really hardcore, and he has never used that word before. And he thought leaf-bare in Nightclan was tough? What a joke! And this she-cat has probably seen more fights than he ever would in a lifetime.
"Wow, that sounds really tough...and you lived through that? As for the wolf...something bigger than a fox, that's quite hard to imagine."
[He asked with a mixture of admiration, disbelief and surprise. Just then, a very large and muscular gray tom wandered towards their group, looking a little lost. This tom was as big, if not even bigger than himself, and that itself was very rare. He had to cast an admiring glance at the tom's muscles, those were quite hard to miss.]
Wonder which clan he's from? Stormclan probably, since it's impossible for Breeze or Seaclan to have such big cats.
[He thought as he gave a nod to the gray warrior, but didn't say anything. Seriously, what was he supposed to say? Puresun just told him his name, and just blurted out this tom's name - Embergaze. Pretty fitting name as well, he had to admit.]
"Hi uh, Puresun just told you my name...I'm sorry, which clan are you from?" ▂▂▂ ▂▂ ▂ ▂▂ ▂▂▂ ▂▂ ▂ ▂▂ ▂▂▂ ▂▂ ▂ ▂▂ ▂▂▂x x x

[Lustrepaw shivered as he pictured a land with no sunlight, covered in marsh and swamp and surrounded by tall trees. Sounded pretty horrible to him, so why would any cat want to live there? Just then, he felt something flick at his back and turned to look, but he grinned when Cherrypaw said that it was her tail. He whirled around, raised his tail and flicked it across Cherrypaw's nose, hopefully making her sneeze.]
"Now we're even!"

(He glanced over to Spottedpaw and paused, scooting away from her slightly. Spadestripe used to describe lost clanmates- one of them being Blossomkit, and told the only information she knew, that Spottedpaw was the suspect of the murder. )
Are they all bee-brained, letting a killer just come and go to a gathering?
(Smokepaw resorted back to his quiet shyness, glancing frettingly at Lustrepaw, then to Dawnpaw.)
"Woo, I think the air might just seem a bit nicer over…there."
(Smokepaw quickly scooted away from Spottedpaw and took a seat between Cherrypaw and Dawnpaw.)
"Yep, definitely better. Clean as a kit's first fangs."
