tam sighs... kero... tell me this... do ye remember what i said about pretend... all those people... they're just average humans... oh one or two may have had a bit of power, but for the most part they were completely untalented... save for the skills that they have learned to use with their hands and minds... and ye... ye violated an important trust... ye forced one of them against his will to do something that made him look foolish and will no doubt have him ridiculed from some time to come... and to top all that... what if he had had some sort of health problem, a bad heart, or a bad back... what then... i'm a guardian, kiddo... one who has dedicated his life to protecting those people... didn't ma tell ye...
he sighs and pulls the cat close... i love ye, kero... more than i probably should, but right now i'm so angry i... i don't know what to say or do... i can't believe ye did that... i really really can't believe ye did....

tam sighs... it's ok... i should have been watching you, not chewing the breeze with that merchant... i was wrong to... he sighs and closes his eyes and ye get a brief hint of a heavy weight of years... and an empty yawning loneliness... hell... kero should send me packing... i'm such a failure....

i don't want to go... but i might not be allowed to stay now... i'm sorry, kero... i know you want to believe that yer the one who did everything wrong, but you weren't... when someone is given a duty, especially one as important as keeping you safe and all, that someone had better keep his mind on his task... you got bored didn't you... i should have seen that... i should have left with you and found something to do long before you misbehaved.... but i didn't...

tam nods and does just that... when he returns to the kitchen his hair is pulled back into a thick damp tail and his face is lined, far older looking that it has been in the past....
