JUST made up a skirt. I need a better petticoat to give it some poof, but. Well. There you have it? Any critique that I can use for my next skirt is highly appreciated.

[edit]: matching sidebow which I need to actually SEW onto the band. >_> Right now, it's just kind of slipped on there with the band through the middle part of the bow in back.

Cryrin: That JSK is gorgeous! I'm so incredibly envious of your skill. The details are absolutely fabulous!

Thank you both!
boconnotto: I adore the fabric that you used! I don't know what to say, given how the pictures don't give a lot of detail, but right now it looks absolutely adorable.

Thank you! ^^ Hancock had a big sale for "back to school" and I picked up a few fabrics before I left home for college:
 The skirt I'm making out of the pink and white has me stumped. I want to do scallops, but can't get them to work. ._.;;
There isn't much detail to the strawberry skirt, which is the problem. There's the main skirt body, the black band that goes around the hem, and then the ruffles. 's about it. ^^;
I'd like to maybe add some red grosgrain ribbon-bows, but have to wait till I can find/buy some. Our local craft stores are waaaay undersupplied. I think I made the skirt way too full, though. Makes me into a total walking muffin/cupcake.

I think that the fullness looks perfect for a Lolita skirt! I always end up feeling like a cupcake when I wear something with a gathered waist (when making them myself, the front and back panels are ~1 yard wide each, sewn together, then gathered down to my 24in waist. Looots of fluff), but it somehow always looks about right. sweatdrop
What problems, exactly, are you having with the scallops? If it's problems with getting them to lay smooth, sew the lining and bottom of the skirt together to form the scallops and make sure to cut notches into the curve before you turn the garment right side out. Iron them smooth, then top stitch along the bottom of the scallops (between 1/8 and 1/4in up from the bottom) to make sure that the fabric lays right.

The problem is that I've been making them waaaay too deep so they crease oddly at inward point. I need to remeasure entirely, I guess.

I feel like I'm spamming this thread lately. o_o; Newest project:

Details:

The underskirt is not the one I'll be wearing for this skirt. It's just the one I had on hand and pinned some ruffles onto for the sake of showing off the back. The actual underskirt that I make for this outfit will a) have ruffles rather than pleats b) have a gathered waist rather than a smooth waist like the one on does [it doesn't poof much even with the petticoat I have on under it] and c) hopefully hang more uniformly under the overskirt than the one shown.
Any critique on this skirt is greatly appreciated!

Wow, boconnotto, your newest project looks really great.
For the black and cherry skirt, maybe you could add criss-cross red ribbons to the black band to help tie it into the rest of the skirt. That section just seems a little plain compared to the rest of the skirt. Your bow looks perfect, though.

Mayasawa Amaya Azanai [pic] A little headdress I made, though the flower and bow got squished in the scanner. xp omega kawaii! 4laugh i want to make something like that... sweatdrop where did you get the materials?
I have no idea, they were just laying around doing nothing. It is just a doily-like thing I crocheted, some ribbon and an silk flower, you can get stuff like that at any kind of craft store. And thank you~but I didn't like how it turned out at first.

This is a dress I finished about a month ago with a matching necklace. The main fabric is bordeaux stretch velvet and was a pain to sew. The lining was a cream cotton, but it needs to be redone... badly. All over, I think the dress and necklace came out fine. I just can't wear it for lack of shoe and sock idea, any suggestions?
