PostPosted: Mon Mar 12, 2007 3:50 pm

Hiya. My name is Sarah. I'm 19, a junior mathematics major at Dartmouth College, with a minor in French. My interests lie mainly in topology, analysis, and algebra. I find physics and astronomy fairly interesting as well, but they're not subjects I study or read about regularly and I'm not exceedingly knowledgable in either field. My ultimate goal is to become a math professor.

Also, my username is slightly misleading: I'm not a "real" mathematician yet, since I'm not published.

Hello! I'm Critic (not telling you my real name), and I'm *cough* between jobs. I'm interested mainly in formulaic mathematics and physics. Let me tell you all who haven't taken Calculus yet, it's freakin' cool. I'm also somewhat of a builder/engineer, although I'm not really that awesome. Well, not at building...

Anyway, hello all. Glad to share your guild. Keep on smilin' mrgreen

Yo! I'm Kayle. I'm in my 3rd year of a physics major at Western Washington University. Generally, I'm into relativity (especially special relativity), astrophysics (my minor), particle physics and radioactivity. Eventually, I'd like to work for Boeing or NASA, but I'd also like to teach high school physics (i'm currently teaching first year labs at the University, which is uber fun).

I wound up in physics after a year and a half of pre-med. I quit pre-med because I hated the chemistry required (so now I watch House instead). When I discovered that I was done with chemistry, I was in need of a new major, and my thought process went something like the following: "I need a new major. What did I like doing as a child, that's probably a good place to start? Hm...I liked....blowing s**t up, taking things apart, putting things together, math, and the stars.... That sounds like the makings of a physics major!" I had taken AP physics in high school, and loved it, so I figured that it was a good major to take. I also was terribly interested in physics as a kid (although I didn't realize it was physics at the time), so yeah. Since then, I've been going strong in the physics world.

That's about it. I look forward to seeing what this guild is like.

my name is Kevin, i'm starting school at a local community college in a couple weeks here, so soon i'll be getting some physics classes under my belt.

up until now my main method of learning about physics has been reading random books and finding people who know more about physics than i do.

like you guys XD

anyways, i'm 19, just started gaia a couple days ago. I also spend time on a small-but-growing website i co-founded, nerdi.sh. My interest in physics comes from my desire to define my reality... or the reality...

so i'm also very interested in metaphysics and theology.

i look forward to learning a lot here smile

Hello everyone My username is DTchan, my real name is FRANZ.

Okay i lied, it's Lauren. ninja

I really love math and sciences, and quantum physics always interested me, as well as other things like that... I'm a junior in high school and loved chemistry and my math courses, and I want to learn more :3

..that's all i can think of for now.

Hello, I'm Thomas (a pseudonym) and I have a profound interest in math and chemistry. I'm only a lowly senior in high school and I've almost completed Calculus AB. Mathematics wise, I'm heavily interested in probability and I'll soon be sharing some things I've found. But I do have an open mind and I hope to learn much more of both math and physics from my time here.

Caio.

Ok. I am very much interested in machines (mech advantage etc), their design, how to maximize effiecency. I know. I am more like an engineer than a physist. But i am still exploring this field of knowledge and every turn holds some fantastic and awe-inspiring and facinating and never ceases to amaze me.

I am a senior in High School at present. And this is my first year in Physics class. The only other topic that we have discussed is Keplars Law (I know, i am a terrible speller) and planatary motion.

So between the two I can kinda wiggle my way around the world.

Hallo.

My name is Rhiannon, and I'm a junior in high school. I'm in my second physics class (my first was mostly a mechanics class, while this one is more E&M, but they're both algebra-based intro classes). I enjoy physics quite a lot, and I plan on taking a Modern Physics and an Astronomy course next year. This summer I'm going to do some research at a local University regarding galaxy collisions, specifically between the Sagittarius Elliptical Dwarf Galaxy (SagDEG) and the Milky Way. I hope to go into Astrophysics and Astronomy in college.

I've joined this guild as an excuse to hang out with some more nerdy people (This has become a compliment to me and I mean it with no insult to anyone) and look forward to learning more about this subject that I like muchly. ^_^

At the time of writing i'm a 2nd year at the University of the West Indies, i'm studying Computer Science. I'm interested in Cosmology and Quantum Physics, i want to see humanity gain more control over their environment and truly become an immortal species [save for blowing ourselves up]. So i'm interested in anything that looks like it can get up out of the solar system in a decent time frame and anything that makes our computers the ownage since most of our future tech will probably require mad calculation and exquisite engineering.

I hope to one day see the creation of a computer system that can use a ToE to brute force the solution to any well defined physical problem.

I also want my hyperdrive, Ironman/guyver suit (i'd settle for a utility belt) and maybe a Gundam before my body expires, and after that i want my replacement body, but mostly for recreational purposes. razz

Hi, i'm yuki. I'm in high-school, 10th. I have always been interested in science and physics, it's in my blood. My grandpa was a physicsist (Sorry, bad spelling there wink ) and my great grandpa was a chemist. Ever since i was 8 i have been talking to my grandfather about physics, science, and expressing our theories about, just about everything!

Hi, I'm Slarti. I'm currently taking three of my A levels in maths and physics and thought it would be worthwhile joining the forums for future reference. I'm interested in just about anything to do with the subjects.

Hey, I'm Luis. I'm a high school-er currently going to GSSM and I've always been interested in physics. Since this is a physics/math guild, I thought that it would be nice to join here. I'm particularly interested in electromagnetism

Well I realize I've just been kind of a lurker in the guild, so I might as well introduce myself.

I'm a high school sophomore. At the moment I'm taking Pre-Calculus and Honors Chemistry. I really have very little background in physics persay, but I am very interested in math and the use of logic. I'm going to partake in a math and science camp for a month over the summer to learn more about logic and linear algebra, so that should expand my knowledge a bit more.

I haven't really had one experience which got me interested in math/logic, I've always been a quick learner which is why I'm a year ahead in math. I mean, I remember i was the first one to learn the multiplication tables in my first grade class, and that made merealize math was something I could be good at. I guess I just really like the feeling of figuring something out, of making those connections, and that's what got me interested in math and pursuing it.

Oh and by the way, I am also interested in learning about physics just because I like to learn and physics answers( or attempts to answer) some of the main questions about our world, I just haven't studied it all that much yet wink

Hey.

Currently I'm a freshman in high school, though I guess the summer's coming pretty quick...

Current math class is Algebra II, though I have a bit of experience ahead of that from my own study (but not much :XP smile

Physics I can't say I know much beyond the basics, sorry. sweatdrop

And I suppose I could scrounge up an antecdote:

So I'm just entering middle school. My past few years of school I'd been a bit... drifity, but still, it was just because I was bored in school (well, that and I prefered video games to homework. :XP smile

Anyway, I was definately the best in my class at math - except for the fact that I could never get the tests quite 100%. I probably could've skipped ahead to geometry that year, but my teacher wouldn't let me ( stressed )

Well, I advance to seventh grade a bit bitter. Partly because of math, and also because at that point I was not the greatest typer, so I had to waste a semester in a keyboarding class...

I walk into math class the first day a bit cocky. Little did I know that one kid would give me a reason to become absolutely OBSESSED over math for the rest of my... well, at least middle school life. This one kid was undeniably the best at calculations (I emphesize that, becasue I now know that I'm still better at math than him other than the fact that he has a year more math than me and knows a lot more equations) in the school - and probably state. In fact, he's proven it multiple times.

Ironically enough, we become best friends.

After enough time, though, I get competitive and constantly try to out-smart him, time and time again getting knocked down to a status of a worthlessness.

So, one year before I get out of middle school, he decides to run off to a school that has an even more advanced program, and leaves me the best at math (or at least sorta). So I now claim fame, at least in the Algebra II crowd.

Unfortunately, it seems that since he was so AMAZING at math, that's what caught people's attention, so now I might be the best, but it doesn't matter anyway. *sigh* I'm now obsessed with math, but it doesn't mean anything. =.=;;

Also: I'm currently working on a Millenium Problem (call me crazy if you want, it wouldn't be the first time), so expect a few higher-math formulae questions from time to time. wink
