@The Husk and Shell edit: I got it right the first time!
"Fine. Fine. No poem. That's well anyways. I can't think of anything at the moment." Kojiro would sit down and lays his head on the table, deep in thought. "If you wanna track down people, then that's fine with me. I'm gonna stay here for a bit."
As soon as the attention turned away from him, Kojiro fell asleep and was lost to the world of dreams.

As per her usual stance on things, Miyako had pretended not to notice the existence of the Crane until he'd bothered to finally introduce himself. A duelist, hmm? Miyako smiled politely, if seemingly distracted by the conversation at hand. "My mother was Kakita Aiko before her marriage. Daughter of Kakita Nobu." Of course, pleasantries needed to be supplied and Miyako was dutiful.
But her attention did need to be turned, and so she spoke up, equally as formal as her recitation to the Crane had been. "I agree with Kitsu-san." well, wasn't that a nice twist. Scorpion agreeing with a Lion. ""After all, we all have far different customs and would consider different gifts appropriate. The best person to ask in this case would be a Crab."

"And I have not seen Kagae-san since we arrived..."
He didn't quite like the idea of showing up as a guest to ask about what to bring back as a gift for their hospitality the NEXT time he stepped into their home.
Denbe tapped his fingers and thought on that, looking around the room. He'd felt a bit unfocused and restless since he arrived, and the sudden need to get a gift no one had a clue about was only making him feel less patient. He was probably blowing the situation with the peasants out of proportion just worrying about it, but it was still letting a trail go cold; the situation probably evident from his frustrated manner since he'd returned.
Well, at least this was something to do.
"Well then," the Hare stood again, looking around before turning toward the door, "I suppose I'm off to ask some Crabs."

Yay proactive PCs!
As everyone else waited behind at the Husk and Shell (not Shell and Husk), Ujina Denbe would seize the initiative and actually go ask around for advice. It would take him a bit, asking passing samurai bearing the Crab Clan mon as he stumbled across them, but he would get a variety of results. Though not all would be as helpful as he might suspect.
"Ieyasu's wife? She used to be a Kuni before marrying into the Kaiu. She doesn't share the same constructive tastes of her husband and his Family, that much I can tell you."
"She's not as active in the community as her husband, so I really couldn't say."
"Hana seems like a nice enough woman. Like most Crab, she hasn't really expressed much interest in the arts, at least publicly."
"You're looking for a gift for her? That's odd. I wouldn't expect you to understand..."
"She takes her duties as a wife and mother pretty seriously. I heard she has a son, so maybe you should ask him?"
"I heard she was a pretty talented swordsman back in her youth. That's really all I can tell you about her."
"AHAHAHAHA! What do you think you should give a Crab as a gift?! Bwahahahahahahaha!"
Though, with that raise, Denbe would be redirected from a well-traveled local Yasuki to a merchant that he recalls seeing Hana visit on occasion. Upon speaking with the older peasant man, it seems that she is fond of the exotic spice cumin in some of her meals!

@ THE SHELL AND HUSK. NO, I AM NOT GOING TO CHANGE IT. D<With her idea having been approved of by at least a few of her companions, Kyumi quickly went to work. She'd take her writing supplies out of her furashiki and would write out two letters. To Kaiu Kagae Kaiu Kagae-san, It has occurred to us that we know very little of your mother. As we would prefer not to offend her and be in her good graces, we would like to have a gift to give her when we arrive. Is there anything you would suggest? Likewise, if there are any topics that we should avoid when speaking with her, we would appreciate knowing as well. Please send your response back with my attendant, Omi, as soon as you can. Await your response, Kitsu Kyumi To Lady Kagae Kaiu-sama, Thank you for graciously offering us your hospitality and inviting us to your estate. The other wardens and I would be both happy and grateful to take you up on your invitation. Unfortunately, there are still a few things that we need to take care of before we arrive, so I will be unable to say the exact hour we will show up. If it is at all possible, however, I will see if there isn't a way to send someone ahead. Once more, thank you for your kind extension of hospitality. Kitsu Kyumi Once she had finished and felt that what she had written was adequate, she would hand them over to her attendant. "Omi, I want you to deliver these to the Kaiu estate. This one to the Lady Kaiu and this one to Kaiu Kagae-san." She would point to corresponding letter to insure that Omi wouldn't somehow mix them up. The attendant would simply nod and accept her mistress' orders. "It sounds like you should be able to ask anyone of the locals as to how to get there. When you arrive and have delivered the letters, stay until he has given you a response to deliver back to us. Once you have a response, return here with it."Omi would nod again before speaking. "Is that all you require of me, Mistress?" Kyumi would nod. "Then I will take my leave and do as you ask." The attendant would politely bow before running off to do as she was told. Once Omi had left, the Kitsu would get up to leave. "I'm going to see if I can't find Toritaka-san... Well, if he isn't busy, anyway." With that, she'd be off to do as she said.

The Husk and Shell Inn
Kojiro groggily managed to put himself in a more alert position as the rest of the group got into action. Think, man! Generations of Yasuki ancestors and you don't know what to get a person? What would they do in this situation? Heh. what would Gramma do? She always had a knack for gift giving!"
Kojiro spent the next few minutes focusing on his Yasuki ancestors in silent meditation.

GM's notes: Kojiro: -1k0 earth/water. Denbe: -1k0 earth/void. Kagae: -1k0 fire. Seichiro: -1k0 earth/void. Zanzen: -1k0 earth/water. Kyumi: -1k0 fire/void. Hisashi:None Miyako: None-------------------- @ Kaiu Fortress:As Kagae is finishing the final touches of his elaborate construction, a knock would sound at the door. "Kagae-sama? Sir? This letter has arrived for you." The servant outside the door would wait patiently for Kagae to either open the workshop door, or be commanded to open it himself. -------------------- @ Husk and Shell Inn:Kakita Zanzen would reflect upon the name Aiko, but unfortunately, he wouldn't come up with anything useful. He has heard the name apply to several different people that he's met of varying ages, and has heard it several fold more times applying to samurai of the previous generation. That is, of course, not including all the Aikos he might not have known that it could be. Though he could hardly claim he knew all the Aikos, he definitely has not heard of one as the parent of a scorpion named Miyako. Denbe, Hisashi, Kyumi, and her servant have all vacated the premises, and Kojiro seemed to be amidst a meditative state. He looked as if he was in prayer, but choosing to do so in the evening in an inn, rather than a temple, seemed like an odd choice to Zanzen. Kojiro, your mind would soon grow blank, and the surrounding background noise of the inn, rapidly going on dinnertime, would fade from your notice. Eventually, though, his spiritual calls for aid would soon be answered. A middle-aged Yasuki man, a spirit, would begin to take shape in his mind, his frown accentuated by his long, thing mustache and his gaunt build. He looked down upon Kojiro, viewing his ancestor through his mind's eye, before answering him... in haiku! "Unchanging brook flows for centuries - rock on the bank waits indifferent." ... Zanzen, you're fairly certain Kojiro has slipped from a meditative state back to sleep. -------------------- @ Kuda Mura:Rather than search for a possible gift, Yoritomo Hisashi heads straight to a merchant with an exact gift in mind. If there was one Clan that the Mantis could rival with straightforwardness when they wanted to, it would be the Crab. It made perfect sense to Hisashi to go right for the booze. He would haggle with the merchant for some time, explaining the purpose of the gift and if he didn't lower the price that Hisashi would break his kneecaps. He would come away with a bottle of Fine quality sake for the price of 1 koku, 3 bu, 5 zeni. Kitsu Kyumi would have little trouble finding Toritaka Tokugawa, who almost looked aghast at her approach, but quickly etiquetted it up as if he had forgotten something on his person but became relieved when he found it. "Ah, yes! You again! I really was kidding about the gifts thing, if that's the matter at hand," he said jokingly, though he didn't seem too amused by it himself.

@Kaiu shiro jr.
Kagae slightly surprised to be disturbed as he snacked on the dinner leftovers walked over to the barricaded door to reply.
"Umm... I'm in a bit of a predicament and cannot open my door... Can you read it to me?"
"Umm... Can you write a letter for me and take it back? To Kitsu Kyumi,
No, I cannot suggest anything since my father usually makes her trinkets as presents and she never wants anything from me.
From, Kaiu Kagae."

"... really?" With a shrug, he'd walk to the innkeeper. "Pardon me, sir, but do you know anything of what the mother of one Kaiu Kagae-san is interested in? She has invited me for a visit and I think a gift would be in order. I would take some of your delicious rice, but I would assume that they already get a steady supply."

Kojiro would thank his ancestor profusely before he stood up. The Scorpion then turned to the Innkeeper and politely asked, "Are their any brooks or small rivers nearby? Also, which way did Lady Kitsu go?"

As she watched everyone bustle off, she restrained a disappointed sigh and excusing herself in proper fashion, Miyako went upstairs and began to pack her own things. It seemed she was to have no fun this trip at all. Oh well, at least she could do a job and have that satisfaction even if no other. Though she was at least glad that the Crane seemed to have no clue as to her name. That at least would be helpful.
