Just like most stores it's a hit or miss!!! I mean if you need stockings really quick thats a good place to go and I sometimes find cute shirts thier, I even found cute shoes on sale thier...lol i like sell racks!! Uhm... you can go into a place like...wet seal maybe....and find things to compliment your style! I'll look just about anywhere!! I got a pretty dress from hot topic, and I parred it with a petticoat I already had that I wear under alot of my loli dresses and with the right accesorys it looked so pretty! Some stuff in thier I don't like some stuff I do!!! I just mix every thing i like!!! Thats how i got into lolita fashione because it's a mix of every thing i love to wear!!!!

I love the Hot Topic around me because the people there are so super friendly and very helpful, they even custom ordered flats size five for me from the distributor! I only really buy accesories, and hoodies from there because the tshirts are really tight unless I buy xxl then they're baggy and long and I look heavy. I often have to reseam them. H&M is a much better resource for loli-able and aristo style in the US, the stuff there is usually better quality, and is plain so you can add your own lace and fixings on it. Also the prices are the same as Hot Topic but most of the time less.

I live in canada, so there's no Hot Topics. So I wouldn't be able to tell if the clothes are good or not for loltia. neutral
But I do like their clothing in general.

hot topic is both good and bad. hot topic is good because there are no other places in my area where you can get punk, goth, or loli outfits. (they had this really cute goth loli shirt that i really liked). i also got some really cute lace gloves there too. the bad part is that there stuff is way to expensive for thier quality. my friends all shop there and i've seen thier stuff fall apart within a day or two. it's sad really. all in all, i'm glad that hot topic is there, i just wish that if they were going to set such high prices that they had there stuff in better quality. (because there has some talk about this) besides myself i don't know anyone who dresses loli in my area, so luckily i havent met any poser loli's who dont really know what it is yet they wear it. i know that thier out there though and that makes me sad -_-

In my opinion, it would be incorrect to say (as I have heard it said ): "Hot Topic does NOT sell lolita."
However, I also think it would be incorrect to say "Hot Topic ALWAYS has great lolita dresses and skirts!"
I do believe you could find a decent lolita outfit there. I personally have never seen a good lolita OP there, but then I haven't memorized every single item that Hot Topic has ever sold. I have, however, personally found a few decent loli blouses there.
The one thing I do give them credit for is that they always have good stockings, and I have seen many a pair of loli-able earrings and hair clips.

Hot topic does have some really cute shoes, and some accessories can work for lolita or decora styles. I managed to find a cute pink strapless dress there awhile back...I think last year around this time, with cupcakes along the hem, which if paired with a petticoat could make a cute loli style skirt. They also are selling some crinolines/petticoats on the website(my store is too emo/scenster to really carry anything too gothy...) Anyway, if you're looking for lolita clothes there its going to be tough. Personally I don't think most lolita would find anything clothing wise there to add to their closet, but maybe something from one of the brands they carry such as Lip Service might be better. Especially their blacklist collection which has some gothic lolita style clothing. If it was the old school hot topic, finding dresses might be easier, but now everything is catered more towards emo and scene styles. Though things seem to be getting a gothy-er edge to them lately, so maybe we'll be able to find some things there?

Hot Topic is nice..well, the old Hot Topic. Most of it now is just 'retro' bright colored s**t. Which is nice, but it feels like Hot Topic lost that special quality it once had. Hot Topic has good stuff, more so of accessories than clothing. There are nicer stores out there that feed my Lolita needs. Surprisingly..Target, Sears, JcPenney's, Kohls..places like that :] And of course Forever 21. You don't need to go to some expensive goth store to get the look is what I am saying.

I agree with this whole-heartedly. Hot Topic has great accessories, stockings and the like, but is incredibly skimpy on the actual clothes unless you're going all out punk--even then, not so hot. The skirts are too short and nowhere near full enough, the tops are all too low cut and immodest. They have "lolita" pieces that they release now and then, jumpers and the like, but most of the garments twist more towards the western perception of what a lolita is than the actual Japanese street fashion. The skirts are short and sit low on the hips, or they're made using lower-quality lace and polyester fabrics.
Definitely check out Kohl's, Target and Penney's though. They have a lot of pieces that can easily be incorporated into an outfit; I do that quite a lot for tops, cardigans, socks and the like. Occasionally, you can find a skirt that works with minor modifications, too. I found a great seersucker skirt at Penney's that would have been awesome for sailor lolita. It was fitted at the waist, had a rectangular, gathered skirt and cotton lace insert near the hem...too bad it wasn't in my size. ):

If you are going to shell out that sort of money for clothing, then you may as well go to a specialty store and buy things which will actually hold up for more than a few uses.

HT is a hit or miss, a few things I've seen are some of the worst pieces I've ever seen and on other times I get so happy because it looks very close to a lolita style. My friend actually wore one of her HT dresses to my house and I freaked because it looked like a lolita dress that I had fallen in love with a few weeks ago. Sadly she bought it years ago when HT didn't sell a few preppy clothes. That was a sad day when I saw this little Holister girl looking through the clothes. (Sorry if anyone wears that but its kind of freaks me out if they are wearing really preppy clothes and walk in to buy gothic stuff...sorry not right)
