Side note: I posted a new game in the game sub forum. Don't forget to check out the guild's fabulous Subforums if you're new to the guild. We have an art forum with recent editions from Chibi and Emily. We have the introduction forum with some neat new people, the ever chinchilla forum which is chinchill-er-ific, an rp forum, AND yippy- Polls for all your easy gold needs and your ability to vote to your heart's content.

I need your help guys. I took a continuing ed course in photography over the summer, and I am eligible to enter an art fair on campus. I can enter up to three pieces, and even try to sell them. I am desperately trying to figure out the best of my best pictures. Ones that have both good technical merit but also show some form of artistic originality (the hard part with photos).

So enclosed should be some of my photographs, I'll add more later I have TONS, but I'd like feedback on some of them.

I also need advice on printing options. I want to get high quality on my photos so that the colors are vibrant and once properly framed they can pass off as professional quality. What is your experience printing pictures (even say vacation photos, did they have a good quality?)

Thanks everyone!

personally, i'm a fan of 5,7,and 9.. as for printing out photos, i really don't know what to tell you. i usually run through the walmart photo lab. never really had any problems with them, but you'd probably want a much more professional grade print.

Hi!

I like 4, 7, and 8 best.

as for printing... I have my digiphotos printed at a local family owned camera/developing business... which aims to serve professional photographers in the area. Though I'm not professional, I appreciate the effort they put into developing that you don't get from your local drugstore or big box store. They tend to use a better quality (semi-archival) paper and it's a nicer weight than many drugstore prints. The price is a few cents higher of course, but it's worth it.

I would suggest asking some pro or semi-pro photographers in your area where they have prints made and then go where they go. Photographers usually know secret places!

I love pictures that use sepia! Besides that I think 5, 7, 9 are the best. They tend to highlight differen perspectives that are really beautiful but often unobserved or overlooked.

Talk to photographers about where to go. One thing is I have just gone to walgreens and target and had them resize the picture and put them in a cheap premade frame with mat (8/10 or 11/14) and it's very inexpensive (maybe $4-$5) and they end up looking quite nice.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

The cheap frames look really, really nice. I'm considering possibly a "Float Frame" which is sold at Michael's craft stores. Though the nice stoic frames you find at Target and Walmart are a close second.

I hadn't thought of a professional print store. The black and white photos actually wouldn't matter as much, but color quality is really important (I want to keep it Vibrant).

And I love Sepia filter, I feel that it helps pull the focus in on texture, that and the black and white option. I'm spoiled rotten with my (often times malfunctioning) digital camera because with a few buttons I can switch back and forth. 10 years ago with a 35mm camera you'd have to load in specific film (either black and white or color) and so you couldn't swap back and forth with ease.

They are all really pretty pictures!! I suck at taking pictures myself but here's what I thought..
I definitely like the light effect on #5, and I think #6 is gorgeous, and then I'm torn between # 8 and #9...8 looks like a photo that could have come right out of a calendar and 9 has a sort of dreamy aura about it so I like them both really...I hope this helped

As for printing...I have no idea..but if it were me I would ask a person that has had some experience with photography.

Funny thing is I used to have a shop on Cafe Press, #8 was part of a calender I made (as was #9). I'm tempted to use #9 as one of the selections because it's a picture of a tree that was destroyed when Mount Saint Helens erupted (it was hit in the Lateral blasts). So there's a bit of meaning behind it.

Well if you ever want picture taking tips I took a bit of a class over the summer so I learned some neat things. I noticed a world of difference in my photographs when I got my Nikon as a present last year. I always had those one time use cameras, then a cheapy Pentax I could load some film into. I think digital is a great wait to improve your pictures. Being able to preview pictures as well as take batches and batches of them allows you to experiment more.

quick tips that will really, really help:

-Avoid flash as much as possible. Most cameras allow you to turn off flash. It causes a flat effect by hitting a subject with so much light you cannot see the natural shadows.

-Better devices: obviously we can't all afford fancy cameras (I can drool over an SLR, but unless I sell an organ, it's no happening). With digital up the megapixels, macro focus is a beautiful tool for great close ups, and with traditional film the larger the size of the film the better the quality generally.

Keep at it, I'm sure you've taken some great photos. smile
