So I have this idea for a One Piece RP... However thinking about it got me thinking about what other fan-type RPs people actually wanted to do. Then it further occured to me that since theyre realtively easy to set up and such that perhaps we oughta complie a list so people who may want to start a new RP, and yet may not have a very clear idea of what to run, could see what there was interest in at least.
Ahem, so on that note, what manga, game, or anime series (or anything even) that you love would you like to play in, RP wise?
Here's mine:
Disgaea/Phantom Kingdom/Phantom Brave
Guilty Gear
One Piece (might be doing it! *crosses fingers for a good run...*)
Biohazard (Resient Evil)
Hellsing
On that note would there be interest in a One Piece Rp will all original characters? I have one completely ready to go but I hesitate to post it...

Interesting proposition. I was thinking about this earlier myself. I tend to shy away from anime and manga roleplays, though.
My top five roleplayable series:-
Biohazard/Resident Evil
Megami Tensei
Devil May Cry
Final Fantasy (maybe)
Digimon (Don't ask. Ok, ask if you like.)
Personally, I'm not interested in One Piece, and I haven't seen Hellsing yet (ordering the first DVD in a few months) so I can't make an opinion about that. I have no idea what the other two of your options are. xd

I honestly wouldn't want to roleplay One Piece, but fan RPs are perfectly acceptable to me. If I was a fan of the said medium, I'd love to be in it. However, I LOATHE adding original characters as love interests, and if anyone did that I'd suddenly hate being in it.

Actually mostly I mostly mean running fan RPs using the universe and none of the major characters at all (unless the GM runs them around in the back, or they only have a very peripheral influence on things) so instead of this, making up your own original characters. I actually don't like that kind of fan RP very much at all where you just play your favorite character, there is less invention in that and more trying to live up to a completely set attitude and image.
Of course everyone likes doing em a bit differently. I love highjacking the worlds that are awesome settings and rattling around with something new within em. Hence my One Piece RP... I am just going to post it and see what happens for now... please come check it out even if ya aren't into OP >,< I forgive you. wink I just think we need something a little less serious and more for fun with a wackier set of characters than your typical forum RP (I would hope hehe) for as much as I like what were all playing, its all dark and or serious for the most part and I myself am after something a little more lighthearted in the mix too. Yes yes we have the High School RPs, but i mean lighthearted fantasy world not so much lighter realworld hehe.
And yay one vote for Biohazard/RE. I need to hurry up and get that written up... think with GM run monsters and induced plot twists vs. group of survivors... and maybe one or two people playing tyrants or hostile Umbrella folks... we could have a riot of zombie apacolypse proportions...
Keep the ideas rollin'! Maybe we'll get more RPs out of this!
I would love to do original character RPs in any of the stuff mentioned, especially in a superhero one maybe hehe, sounds rather different.
@Calamity I'm surprised you don't know Guilty Gear given your taste in gaming. It's a good one! Awesome setting, lots of space to splash around in and the coolest cast of characters to grace a fighting game. I never liked Fighting games in fact till i played it...
News for ya too, just in case you havent heard (I'm an Atlus fan and didn't know about this till I saw it on shelves) there is a Megami Tensei MMORPG out here in Japan on PC, came out a few months ago but yeah... very intriguing.

I know about the MMORPG (Imagine looks so COOL). I actually applied to be a beta tester, but didn't get accepted. Yes, I know I'm in the wrong country, but they didn't even ask what country you were in, and some Americans I know got in. crying
I agree with your taste on fan-RPs. It's not really any fun to just take other people's characters and play them. Plus you have to have a really deep knowledge of the character unless you want to majorly mess up.
Mm... Biohazard... <3 Sounds like fun. Come to think of it, Xmen sounds like fun too. I'm tempted to start a roleplay like that myself.
I'm quite surprised that I don't know Guilty Gear too. The name sounds familiar, but I've never seen a copy here (Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK). I'll take a look for it on Amazon.

Yes I lives in Japan. I teach ze English. I study ze nihongo. I go to Nagasaki Gaidai. I speaka at "upper intermediate" level. Luckily Fukuoka is nearby and I can go on shopping binges that wipe out my money.
But yeah... Ah well was worth a shot of mentioning it. Everyone I was in Tokyo with at the time was like, "Megami what?" so... I was the only one in the group who was excited. Only bit of kewl news I have gotten in the gaming arena while here. Then again I'm also the only one among my friends who was excited when Persona 3 FES came out, and now Grim Grimoire (I loooooove Nippon Ichi, my fav game company perhaps next to Blizzard). Cept its way complex and my kanji is lacking and I do hate playing games with my 1100 page Kanji dictionary on standby. I'll just wait and do it in english.
Thats been one of the most depressing things... RPGs are reallly hard to play in japanese. Why can't they talk about simple things!? >,< No wonder 80% of my games are fighters... "I'll take you down this time!" "Bring it!"
Once I get my history project done I shall be posting up a survival horror, but I have a good setting in mind now and so it may not end up being RE/Bio but it shall be very similar hehehe.
No one likes OP though... *sigh* truly in Japanese it's brilliant I dunno what they do in the dubs and translations of the manga (beyond what Viz and co usually always do of butchering things) cause its got like fantastic puns and wordplay, and is just fun >,< Besides you don't have to be a 1st level Japanese fluenty person to just read and enjoy it in Japanese. Have a nasty feeling I may just have to ask kitty to zap that RP eventually... T,T

You really are lucky. I wanted to do that myself, but I can't study Japanese in a class until I'm 20 (the colleges here don't teach it, so I have to wait for University), and the cost of the TEFL qualification is quite high.
Hehe, I bet the games are really hard to play when you don't understand the written language. I used to play a couple of PC games that were installed in Japanese (It's my computer's default language, to help me learn it) and it was hell trying to get through them because I didn't understand. One of the Megami Tensei games was one of them, I recall; it was all Japanese, and I couldn't figure it out at all.
The One Piece dub's all I've seen... and it's by 4Kids. Their dubs are usually massacred. I bet it is much better in the original, but because of it's size, I've never really bothered to look for it in Japanese. It's such a long series, after all, and it's hard to find Japanese language versions here. About the only way I could get it is via import, and the sites I know charge way too much for that. I'm only a poor college student after all.

Yeah lucky i suppose... nice of you to say. I've been here 9 months... or a bit over that... so on the whole I am a bit away from the ah kewl I'm in Japan things, and more like, this is where I am. I had to wait till University too, took it for two years there, got to do summer study abroad, and got a scholarship to come back, otherwise I would never have bankrolled this. Its a little on the wackily high cost of living side.
Practice is good in a language. However, in my experience, trying to go Waaay beyond your level like playing through a game in Japanese let alone a complex one is just useless. Hell I have played Vagrant Story back to front in English a LOT, and playing it in Japanese is 180% different, and I still don't understand a lot of the plot... I'm a Ni-kyuu in Japanese too... but yeah... cause as much as I love Square, VS is oddly very different in what is expressed in the Japanese from the English version. Makes me wonder about a lot of imported games, as its the only one I have done such a comparison on.
I have Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix in my hands though and I shall see about that one...
oh ye gods... the 4kids.... that is NOT One Piece >,< They went notoriously overboard with the censoring on that. Seen the side by side frames of some of the edits? it's sick really...
I hear ya with the poor college kid thing... sucks indeed. Only worse when you're in Japan and ... have a thing for collecting manga/anime figures and statues... and buying manga... and manga related t-shirts and gear...
I'm still reaaaaallly sad I have not gotten even a single message/pm from anyone remotely interested in the OP RP. crying crying crying

I don't think it's cool so much as "special". Personally, I have a high love of foreign cultures, so something like that would be wonderful for me. I'm not planning to move there any more myself, but it's still a beautiful dream.
I just got Kingdom Hearts II the other day. (Yes, I'm a bad, bad gamer because it's been out for MONTHS...)
4Kids are demons, and should be banished to the far distances of Tartarus. 4Kids go notoriously overboard on nearly all their animes. It makes me sick. I swore never to watch their animes again, but somehow I end up doing it just to see what they've done.
Oh god, that must be terrible. XD Reminds me of Anime Iowa last year. Saved up for months to get money and spent it all in three days because there was just so... much... manga... and anime... and anime/manga related stuff...
Don't worry about the roleplay. Just keep it open for a while. Some of my RPs took ages for people to reply to.

Yar I hear ya.
I'm working on the Resident Evilily RP... though it may not be a RE thing, it may be my own setting and such... I think 5 slots maximum for PCs, and then maybe a bad guy or two to assist meas GM. Really going to try and do it GM styled, so I won't be playing a character in it beyond he baddies.
Yeah well I haven't made it through a stack of fabulous games at home >,< So bad gamerism is something I too am afflicted with. Mostly its called World of Warcraft and slavery.
Yes yes, I shall hold for th' One Piece to go.. but sadly like all my friends and fav RPers are all not interested in it *dismay* crying crying

For some reason, lately, I've been really interested in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms novels, and the games based on them, and all that stuff. At some point, I might start a roleplay on them, but it'll have to be after my time here becomes less erratic. I didn't expect Gaia to become so hard to get onto, but then, Mama's using the computer more than me lately. Give me a PM when you get the Biohazard-y RP started. I haven't played World of Warcraft. You're a slave? Oo

It happens hehe! Romance of the Three Kingdoms eh? Yeah it's cool stuff actually... you really need to check out Ikkitousen, its a great take on 3 Kingdoms, nice adaptation. Basically it takes place between 3 major high schools, is full of martial arts battling, and overloaded perhaps with more fan service than you can shake a scantily clad girl at... but its still really good, and a very nice, fresh take on 3 kindoms. New anime is coming out for it too, Ikkitousen Dragon Destiny.
Ah yes the RE thing. We have a zombie thread going but... Maybe I'll post it anyway.
I'm actually kinda working on a Super Sentai RP hehe, should be fun actually. wink

By the by the english version is CRAP. It's called Battle Vixens, and they didn't translate it so much as completely redid most of the dialogue. Seriously. It's the worst importation/translation of a manga ever.
