I'm a freshman and so far I have played Yellow After the Rain, Rain dance, Smedback Etude #2 and Gitano. What should I move onto after I finish Gitano? I'm thinking Astral dance or Ransom. Something fun.
OTHER THAN THAT! This is a place to discuss four mallet solos for marimba, or vibe (or xylo.)
Make suggestions or take them. Just get some good knowledge.

I am honestly beginning to think everyone who has ever picked up four mallets has played yellow after the rain. lol. As for suggestions, look into Musser's stuff. It's pretty cool.

I've never played yellow after the rain!!! lol, but I have looked at it... once
Go for some Keiko Abe- that stuff's pretty fun. I played Frogs a little while ago- but I'm onto somethin new now.

Yay you played Gitano too! I love that one I played it at our solos and duos concert and i played it for my final. I haven't played yellow after the rain but one of our percussionists did. i guess some pieces are considered standard repitore(I can't spell) like sea refractions which I and just about everyone , their mom and their uncle Bob who doesn't even play marimba, has played sweatdrop .
This was my freshman year and before college I didn't have much of a chance to work with four mallets but I think I've gotten the hang of it. It's crazy what you can do with 4 mallets. I was going to suggest Gitano but seeing as you've already played it, I would suggest Mbira song (by alice gomez) True lover's farwell, and there's another one I like I think it's called Gania or something
