We've had a lot of threads about aspects of being goth that annoy us. About people misunderstanding, stereotyping or just not getting it. But most of us think of ourselves as gothy and have decided to let it show. We might have to put up with ignorant people, but we think it's worth doing.

So, Got Goth Guild... what are some GOOD things gothdom has done for you?

Here are some of mine:
-Owning the coolest boots known to god.
-Never needing an umbrella. My cloak keeps me warm and dry!
-Random people who come up and say my clothes look beautiful.
-Free sasparillas at the fetish club.
-My treasure-trove of jewellery.
-Never having to rent a halloween costume.
-Kids who ask me if I'm Mary Poppins.
And most importantly...
-Friends who care about what you think and who you are, not how you look and what you wear!

This is a great idea! ^_^

Anyways, here are some great things about being gothy...

-If you gain a little weight you can easily conceal your tummy with a corset.

-The women who run a lot of the thrift shops in my city absolutely adore me! They think my outfits are so cute! ^_^

-If you've got an obsession with being pale, and thus use sunscreen and parasols religously, you've got a pretty low risk of getting skin cancer.

-Black compliments nearly every complexion and body type.

-Little kids sometimes think that I'm a princess. whee

-Being able to get away with wearing a velvet cloak. Cloaks are awesome. blaugh

-You can wear whatever you please, wether it's a poet shirt or victorian mourning garb, and your friends will just shrug it off, knowing that such should be expected from you.

*Largely bass-driven music is soothing and very easy to write stories to
*A customized messenger bag is almost always much cooler than the backpacks that the other kids have
*Random people coming up to me and saying that they love my cross pendant
*Being in a social clique with a bunch of weirdos (though this doesn't just mean goths - I've hung out with punks and stoners, too) tends to be funner than most social groups
*Throwing together several different clothing styles to make my own
*Sneaking up on friends for fun is easier while wearing dark-colored clothing
*Telling friends that I'm Catholic and hearing them reply, "I imagine you walking into a church and bursting into flame neutral " (sure, sometimes it's a little bit much, but other times it's amusing)

~ Sweat stains don't show up on black clothing nearly as much as they do on lighter colors.
~ I'm always prepared for a funeral, in case I ever have to go to one (hopefully not anytime soon, though).
~ people are always surprised when I say something smart (they usually associate people like me with being slackoff stoners who don't give a crap about school).
~ when it comes time to do my stage makeup for school plays, I know exactly what I'm doing, especially with eyeliner, which most people need help with.
~ most guys in my school don't hit on me, my clothes and eye makeup usally scare them away.
~ my boyfriend happens to find goth girls very hot heart

And they don't show blood, either! twisted

It's a definite perk, especially if you're a little clumsy.

[+]Having people compliment my make-up
[+]Nasty people don't go near me when I wear my spiked wrist band

Yeah, black pants are always a good choice during that time of the month.

I will also add that my dark eye makeup tends to draw attention to my eyes and away from my acne.

The looks you get when attending church...what? It's good for me, okay?

When for History class you have to do a report on a famous American tragedy, and you pick the Columbine Massacre and present it to the class. The faces are simply hilarious.

The music.

The coolest accessories/clothing. I mean, who wouldn't like top hats with bat wings, Demonia boots, and Global Genocide pants?

Vampire s**t FTW.

We get the coolest movies and books.

Emilie Autumn.

'Nuff said.

I can't think of many, that's probably how bad Philadelphia is on Goths.
But,
-Getting smiles at Goths when they pass me by. <3
Annnd. Umm.
-Having friends that don't dress exactly like I do and don't listen to the same kind of music (well, the music part is not all of them) but like me for who I am and stand up for me whenever someone starts making fun of me.
-Having tons of cool clothing and s**t I can put together to make me look totally kick-a** and not like everyone else.
-Having an older brother who has the same style as me and calls us both "totally bad-a**." xD
