Redtooth and Killconey were running far away from Redwall. They kept running, and running, and running until Killconey asked, "Where are we going Redtooth?" Redtooth stopped and Killconey slammed into him. "You know, thats a good question Killconey. I have no idea. "Killconey stared at him, dumbfounded. "What do you mean you don't know where you're going!" Redtooth didn't answer and started running again. Killconey followed, not knowing what to expect.Many years later, and Redtooth and Killconey found themselves back at Redwall. "We travled for 3 years just to end back here!" Killconey was mad at Redtooth. Redtooth answered, "Well I've got no sense of direction so don't blame me." An idea suddenly popped into Redtooth's thick skull. "Killconey! It's been 3 years, so that means there must be new inhabitants!" Killconey had doubts, but never-the-less, rang the bell on the Abbey's big gates. Craklyn answered, saw the 2 standing there,and closed the gates right on them. "I told you it was pointless Redtooth!" Redtooth got angry and responded, "Fine! If you are so great Killconey, you lead!" Killconey lead, happy at his new postition. They found themselves at Salamandastron. "Told you I was better at leading, Redtooth", said Killconey. They marched up to the entrance, knocked, and was greeted by Cregga Rose Eyes. "Trying to invade my fortress are you!"
Redtooth studdered, "No,it's not like ooph!" Cregga picked up Redtooth and threw him at Killconey. "Don't come back you vermin!" Cregga shut the gates on them. "Not our day Redtooth", said Killconey. "Tell me about it Killconey." Redtooth got up,and began walking and Killconey ran after him. They walked through the dense forest until they came upon the Rapscallions. They bravely walked up to their leader, Damug Warfang.Damug turned,and said, "Who are you two?" Killconey was scared, and mumbled out, "I'm Killconey and he is Redtooth." Damug seemed pleased. "Rapscallions! We have two new members! Say hello to Redtooth and Killconey!" They both walked down and bumped into 2 rats named Lousewort and Sneezewort. They seemed odd to Redtooth and Killconey. "So,what do you 2 do around here?"Killconey asked. Lousewort took the liberty of answering, "Well,we are only minor soldiers around here. We hope to do something important someday, but everyone keeps bossing us around." Damug suddenly screamed, "Silence in the crowd!" He had in front of him Lugworm, who had betrayed the Rapscallions. "It is time to execute the traitor," Damug continued. Lugworm had one one final death scream before he was sliced by Damug's sword. "Ok,It is time to advance on Salamandastron," Damug yelled. Damug marched off with all his Rapscallions leading behind him. "Did you hear that Redtooth? We're going back to the mountain with the deadly badger!" Killconey was worried.

At Redwall, an otter dibbun named Bagg was walking around the main field. He heard knocking from the main gate. "Craklyn! Its those wierd rats again!" Bagg went up to answer, and was greeted by Bigfang. "I'm sorry kind rat sir, but there is no rats allowed." "No rats allowed?" Bigfang screamed. "Yes, no rats. We've had to much trouble with rats to trust 'em."
Bagg closed the gate. Bigfang turned to leave, but when he turned, he was staring at Brigadier Thyme. "Ahhhhhhhh!"

Damug was standing on some rocks looking at Salamandastron. "Hey! You 4!" Damug was pointing at Redtooth, Killconey, Lousewort, and Sneezewort. "I want you 4 to infiltrate Salamandastron and try opening the main gate. We start at night! So be ready!" The 4 discussed it among each other. "We've dealt with this badger before. She doesn't even give you a chance to speak," Killconey said. "Sounds dangerous... and rude," Lousewort said. "Well, it looks like its night. Time to start our mission," Redtooth said.

Thyme stepped over the dead Bigfang. He knocked. Bagg was walking away, but went back to answering the door. "I told you! No rats all-. Oh! Your're not a rat! Come right in!"
"Thank you, you kind otter."

Using a makeshift rope, the 4 scaled the outside of Salamandastron. They crashed through a window, into the badger's bedroom! "Oh man, we're in the badger's room. We can't make any noise!"
