Our band is dwindling down to half it's size every year and it needs to stop.
If you could give some ideas on how to bring up the band numbers or get more recruits, the help would be greatly appreciated.
I love the band as i'm sure everyone does, and it hurts to see it suffer. thank you for any help you can offer.

Assuming your in high school... visit the "root" schools; middle schools that send the most students to your school.
Play/perform for them and get them interested in your band. Show them recordings of past shows and make it look like its a big, great thing.
"Pshaw! Who wants to be a cheerleader when both sides of the field can see AND hear us?! Football player! Hah! You can go break a leg during practice or something. What? Yeah, you'll get hurt during practice but it's not like... you know... a contact sport or anything. And field trips. <3 blah blah blah."
Promote being in the band by talking about it and answering questions. Make sure you answer honestly though, because it's wrong to false advertise. D;

thanks.
the only problem is that both of the middle schools (there are only 2) won't let us go talk to the students......not even at lunch! so, we have to find another way.....

These days, almost everyone has a myspace. =| Try to contact some of the middle-school band players via myspace.
I don't have one. >_> But my BD stalks potential members via MySpace and tell them to come to practice.

thank you so much for your help. you can also pm me if you want. band is my life, and i'll do almost anything to see that it goes through.
*insert sob story here* only four years ago, our band was about 150 members strong. now that we have a new bd who won't do anything for the band, and fails people just to not go on trips, many people have quit. we are now down to 23 members for next season, unless something changes.... *end of sob story*

OMG 23?! the lowest my band ever got was 140...
We always.... several times every year.... stalked the middle-school's band directors. The school wouldn't let us in during school so we came after school before the teachers would have a chance to leave. If you urge the root school's directors to push for you they will, and you'll get what you need.

I just finished a recruitment video for my marching band. Not that we're in desperate need of more members...but there have been various rumors of people leaving for a range of reasons.
Does your BD have any connection with the middle school directors? My BD is both the high school and middleschool director, so he can kind of influence them to join.

my bd is the reason all of the people are leaving......*sigh* on top of that, all of the bd's in the city don't like her. so i guess we're in trouble. we've been trying to get another bd out here to do just marching band, but no one wants to do it.
