Garb for Halloween?
  No way, that's cheating!
It's just not a costume anymore....
I integrate it if it works, but I never use ALL garb.
  Only as a last resort.
Hell, why not? It's just so easy!

Do you believe that wearing garb for a costume is cheating? Do you enjoy being able to use your sewing skills for Halloween costumes? Do you like to celebrate All Hallow's Eve the medieval way? Share!

I've done garb for halloween before, but only because my schedual didn't allow for time to make what I really wanted. ^_^;

It's just lazy...

I'm a companion this year. I was going to go to the browncoat shindig at GWW...

Y'know... I wore garb for Halloween once, and that was before I joined the SCA. It just isn't a costume for me, I guess... but if I was down to the wire I might encorporate it as part of a costume (put on my garb, slap some fairy wings on my back and elf ears on my head).

I used to use some of my garb for Halloween costuming when I was super lazy, but now I want to keep it safe from those crazy party people. (here in Madison, there have been riots... it's just not good on fabric, even ifit's very sturdy...) I used to wear it also to show those girls dressed as "wenches" what real garb looks like, but now I'd rather just be more creative. Those girls would be too drunk to notice, anyways.

Yes and no.

Last year, I was Jeanne d'Arc, and wore my chain mail.

Never doing that again. I'm STILL picking bacon alfredo out if it.

But still need help coming up with ideas.

I'm thinking iPod, and painting a t-shirt to look like one.

Well I'd never berate someone for it! I might poke fun at them though! xd

I think garb is kind of cheating, but at the same time - some people (like me) just love their garb, and will use any excuse to wear it! xd heart

But if it's a Halloween party, at a fellow SCAdian's house, I would advise against it! xd

Sure I wear it. It's an excuse to be able to wear it at school and such. When else can I?

Nah, I never do. It just doesn't feel like a costume to me...I'm not all that self-conscious, so I don't really need a "reason" to wear my garb-if I want to, I do! haha. So I don't wear it on Halloween. it's too much a part of 'me' to be a costume.

I worked at a Quiznos, and they had me making sandwiches.

It's making food. If you've never been on kitchen duty, here's a word of advice: Get an apron...or have your mundanes close by. In short, it's a mess.

Especially if I'm involved.

I need to figure out how to get that dead look for my 'dead bride' costume this year! crying

HUZZAH FOR RE-USING GARB!
No, not GARB ... exactly .... stare I had this really nice dress made last year for an SCA new years party ... but it was made in black (just a simple long-sleeved black dress) because black was on UBBER sale stare ... I constantly go "soo .... who died?" ... and never wore it to an SCA event again! sweatdrop But now, I'm attaching ripped-up pieces of spiderweb fabric to it for my dead bride costume this year! biggrin heart

Thanks! mrgreen The makeup took forever and ended up flaking off in about 2 hours. I would definately NOT recommend the white liquid crap that they sell at the halloween stores. Pancake makeup is your friend, though. It sounds like your costume will be spiffy!
