PolyGlue4: Tell me some of the history of evenescence o.o I donno it
faerieangel2350: Okaaaaaaaaaay.
faerieangel2350: Well.
faerieangel2350: So in the beginning, like, early 90s.
PolyGlue4: uh huh o.o
faerieangel2350: Two young muiscal prodigies to be named Amy Lee and Ben Moody happened upon each other at summer camp. This lucky coincidence occurred because Amy happened to be playing Meatloaf's "I'd Do Anything For Love" on the piano in such a way that Ben decided to come over and say hi.
faerieangel2350: Well, they hit it off and became best of friends.
PolyGlue4: how old were they
faerieangel2350: Eatrly teens....
faerieangel2350: **early
PolyGlue4: seriously? o.o
faerieangel2350: Uh-huh. So after camp was over they stayed friends, put their musically-inclined heads together and started writing music.
faerieangel2350: Eventually they got to the point where they used a closet for convienient recording space.
faerieangel2350: This is how their early works were stuck together.
faerieangel2350: They recorded the Evanescence EP, Whisper/Sound Asleep EP, and their demo "album" Origin in this way.
PolyGlue4: I thought they were older'n that @.@
faerieangel2350: Well, they started young.... I guess you can say that they musically grew up together. How cute! Anywho, one day, Ben called Amy and asked her if she wanted to go to New York. She was all "Yeah, right." But he was serious; they'd been signed to Wind-Up Records.
PolyGlue4: =o
faerieangel2350: As you heard in that one interview, they got stuck in Artist Development for a long time, and then they finally got to recording, and thus comes Fallen.
PolyGlue4: yay ^^
faerieangel2350: With the help of some buddies, namely John LeCompt on guitar, Will Boyd on bass, and Rocky Gray pwning the percussion (ha, I love sayin' that), they got their album going. Bring Me To Life and My Immortal were featured in a movie called Daredevil. And with Bring Me To Life as a popular powerhouse debut single, Evanescence skyrockets to faaaaaaaame.
faerieangel2350: Fallen is 6 times platinum btw.
PolyGlue4: o.o awesomeness...
faerieangel2350: AWESOME AIN'T IT?
PolyGlue4: yes!
faerieangel2350: But then, after 2 more singles (Going Under and My Immortal), in October 2003....
faerieangel2350: BEN MOODY LEAVES THE BAND. OMG.
faerieangel2350: >.< His departure essentially saved the band from bein' torn apart by his and Amy's downwardly-spiralling friendship.
PolyGlue4: Why'd all that happen anyway D:
faerieangel2350: Well, everything was falling apart. Even the thing that brought them together was an arguing point. They weren't on good terms with each other, really. Ben's ubercommercial approach to music was making Amy spazz, and he was pissed at her obsession with not selling out. Last time they spoke was very briefly at the Grammy ceremony where 50 Cent made an a** of himself after Ev beat him out of Best New Artist.
faerieangel2350: Yesh, Evanescence won Best New Artist.
faerieangel2350: Awesome, eh?
faerieangel2350: Anywho, after Ben left, Evanescence picked up Terry Balsamo (formerly of Cold) to fill the guitarist void. And then they toured their asses off.
PolyGlue4: ;D 50¢ is worth about 15¢
faerieangel2350: XD!
faerieangel2350: I love you!
faerieangel2350: *lol's*
PolyGlue4: I love you too ^^
faerieangel2350: Well, following the conclusion of the last tour, Evanescence went to work on their new material.
faerieangel2350: But things got in the way.
faerieangel2350: For one, Terry had a stroke and was in the hospital for awhile. Now tell me. If you were in a band and your guitarist was hospitalized, you'd be there with him, right?
PolyGlue4: Yes o.o
faerieangel2350: He's fine now, btw.
faerieangel2350: Also, Amy had to fire her asswipe manager and there's an icky lawsuit that I won't go into.... >.<;;;
faerieangel2350: So yeah.
PolyGlue4: I know about that one >.o
faerieangel2350: Now they've got Call Me When You're Sober out, and The Open Door will be officially released on October 3rd, as I've been saying for months. <3
PolyGlue4: Yeps ^^
faerieangel2350: Oh, one last note: Will quit the band a couple months ago so he could spend more time with his family. One of the Ev Thread regs has found out that he's now in another band back in Little Rock, where Evanescence was first formed.
PolyGlue4: I see..... x.x
PolyGlue4: So how much of the original band is there?
faerieangel2350: It's Amy and John and Rocky still with Ev.
faerieangel2350: ^-^
PolyGlue4: And people that have come into the band since it's forming are?
faerieangel2350: John, Will, Rocky...
faerieangel2350: Also a young man named David Hodges used to play keyboard.
faerieangel2350: Back in the Origin era.
PolyGlue4: I mean to take up the slack of will and ben leaving o.o
faerieangel2350: Oh.
faerieangel2350: I mean.
faerieangel2350: Heh.
faerieangel2350: Terry came in after Ben's departure. Can't remember who's filling Will's shoes.
PolyGlue4: Alrighty ^^
PolyGlue4: It's an evolving band >.o
faerieangel2350: I have a book you can read if you want more.
PolyGlue4: ^^;; Oh I'll be fine for now thanks..
faerieangel2350: Okeedokes.
