Mistress DragonFlame ...I've been browsing the pages for a few days, and I still don't get it. What's up with the Duck tape? neutral Monty python I understand, but ducktape? What the hell is it even used for? Everything and anything. Its amazing how much stuff you can use duct-tape in once you put your mind to it, or if you simply lack anything else.

That sounds shockingly similar to every theatre company I've ever worked with. Coincidence? eek

Myythren Everything and anything. Its amazing how much stuff you can use duct-tape in once you put your mind to it, or if you simply lack anything else. The only thing I can possibly think it could be usde for is keeping a slab of metal from rubbing. But then again, just get some leather onto the spot so it'll be more period. I see no purpose of Duck tape in any Renaissance Fair.

I see no purpose of Duck tape in any Renaissance Fair. Erm. My lady, the SCA is NOT a Rennaissance Faire. There are some similarities, but many, many differences. Duct tape is, mainly, used in the SCA as a covering for the weapons we use in our simulated combat. Rather than fighting with live steel, we craft weapons out of rattan, foam, and duct tape, to simulate the size and weight of the weapons, without the sharp edges. After all, we can't hardly share a drink with our slain enemy around the bardic circle later if we truly slay them on the battlefield! smile

Duct tape: Wrapping weapons, keeping your armor on, making sure your bumper doesn't fall off your car on the way to an event, making patterns for garb that's supposed to be fitted... the possibilities are endless.
And has anyone seen the documentation? I've heard that duct tape is period. wink

Ah, I see then. 3nodding
But I prefer Rapier fighting--Civilian fighting to War fighting, the Long Sword/b*****d sword...etc. You only need a small rubber thing on the end to keep from killing somone. That, and a mask to keep your eyes intact. o.o;;

Unfortunately, though, there are kingdoms that do not have rapier combat. Places like Calontir, fencing's a bad word. Besides, there's more to just fighting than rapiers.
