Hello Everyone my name is Shannon. I'm new at this sort of thing so if I'm not anygood just let me know. I'm in pit I play the bells and Xylophone. I personally I have one little problem. I'm tiredof everyone else in the band raging on my for being in Pit. My band is super unsupportive of any section other then their own. We just got a new band director and Percussion directors this year and I hope things start to change. we have a totaly of 4 people in our Pit this year so it's going to be realy hard. We have a really good band but for the past 3 years there hasn't been a director who gave a crap so we've done pretty bad. Some how last year we made it to state just to get our butts handed to us in little red packages. I start band camp tomorrow... From 8:00 am untill 6:00 pm. I get an hour and a half lunch break. I'm a pretty laid back person so this is going to kill me. So I would really like some input on PIT arrangements, different kinds of music played and stuff like that.

Hi. I am pit too, however, in our band, we are referred to as the "front ensemble" because it sounds better. There are 5 in there this year. We actually don't work as hard as we could, but we get things done. Our band is actually pretty supposrtive of everyone else so I don't know what to say about that. State was awesome, we went last year (05). During marching season I am usually on the Vibes. We pretty much have the marimba, then the xylophone, then the bells, then the vibes in an arc type of thing at the front of the field. This years music looks pretty hard but we are getting along well. I feel sorry for the kiddo's next year though...another state year=harder show.

Yay for pit! Anywho...don't worry about the other band members. They're always like that. "Saxes are better!" "No! Brass kicks a**!" "Well woodwinds kick brass!" Just know that without the pit, there wouldn't be a marching show. Also, think about how the pit doesn't have to march at all. Druing band camp, everyone's out there marching and working their asses off to play while marching while we just get to stand there and play. Another reason why they rag on us...we're the "easiest" section. They don't know how tough we've got it! When they're ragging on you, just think about how much fun it is being in pit. 3nodding

SO I think finally we have a littl respect going on... are band director is tough but great. One of the kids almost left their cooler and when he realized it he ran to get it and our director Mr.Wilkerson made him do "the Waddle" he had to waddle across the room saying "waddle waddle quack quack I want my stuff back..." It was quite funny. lol We are playing "Flight of the Condor" which is pretty sweet...... Somewhere from West Side Story... and some mexican one that I can't remember the name off the top of my head. our long hard practices are really paying off!

We have 4 hour practices with the rest of the band, so we were up on stage in the cafeteria the lst two days so that we could practice somewhere. Both BD's stay outside teaching the other bandies to march for 2 hours, and yesterday, 1 hour and 45 minutes of those two hours we sat around and talked. then when our BD came in we worked the rest of the time, but it was a good day.

I'm going to start Band Camp tomorow and I'm hoping to get synth. A lot of people in my 8th grade year (i'm starting high school on the 14 of Augest, I'll be a freshman) walked over and tryed to play the synth. They just hit notes saying that the synth was easy. Yeah right! I have no clue how many people are going to try out of pit but I hope that no one trys out for synth.

Muhaha! I've made synth... So so did this other guy! Ok in one of our band camp days, we went outside to the High School Office. They load speaker went off and then the other synth guy said "She wouldn't sound so bad if she spoke in the same key we played." It was funny.

Congrats! I was put on the xylophone the first day but wound up on vibes. They're so pretty! We just got them last year and I'm only like the second person to play on them. I'm so excited! At one part of the show, there is a vibe part with the horns and saxes and it's awesome. This is going to be a great year!

Woo! I love PIT! Although we are trying to get more people to refer to it as Front Ensemble. but I play Marimba and we have like 10 people in our section. Everyone loves us in our band though because we usually have the main parts in our shows and we have to practice at least three times a week every week for like 4 hours each time.

Awesome Pup in Fluff, I play vibes to, aren't the gorgeous?
Yeah, we try to be referred to as the "front ensemble," but after two years of trying that the BD still calls us pit stressed . But, the assistant (does all the drumline) calls us front ensemble.
