I think a rant belongs in the rant and rave right? Well, I have a rant! I use "you" in a general sense to avoid the "They this" and "they that". Plus, it just makes me feel better. Commence with the Ranting!

I HATE tripping over people in the manga aisle a the bookstore because they plopped down on their a** in the middle of the aisle with the last four volumes of Naruto spread around them. I want to kick them in the teeth and step on their heads! Get the hell out of the way!

The book store is not your personal library! Unlike most of you little leeches lounging about, some people actually go there to buy books, so we can take them home and sprawl out in a chair or on our bed to read books. If you're going to be sucking up manga without paying for it, at least find some unobtrusive little corner to hide in.

It's completely obnoxious to just make yourself at home like you have rights or something. You don't! Some bookstores provide chairs, obviously encouraging people to stay a while, but that does not mean you should kick back and take off your shoes! Keep them on! Some of you unwashed fankids are just so smelly! There's this thing, it's called soap. Allow me to introduce you, by shoving it up your nose!

Grrr! Sometimes I just wish that bookstores would kick these people out. They totally ruin my shopping experience and unlike the people sprawled on the floor or leaning against shelves, I'm spending money there! If I'm gonna be dropping $10 -$16 on a book, I damn well want to walk through the aisle without having to play hop scotch to get over someone or pass up a shelf because someone's leaning against it and won't move! scream

And, that's me on my little soap box. Feel free to join me in my rantiness. I'd like to think I'm not the only ticked off by this. Not all manga fans are rude little ignorant pricks right?

then again, sometimes if youre picking up a new manga, you want to make sure its good, right? because nothing is worse than spending 15 bucks on a book and taking it home and finding out its crap.

which is why bookstores should provide chairs. or wider aisles. because hopscotch in the aisles is just not fun. though i cant see how it would ruin your "experience". ever shopped in a crowd before? think of it as the same thing.

of course, i TOTALLY agree with you on the whole taking-off-of-shoes-thing.

i dont like your odour. the store clerk doesnt like your odor. everyone around you DETESTS your odour. if you like it that much, stay home a do something sweaty.

also, for your information, im actually an etremely rude, slightly midgetized p***k. x) just sos you know.

Buying books is not like buying a sweater. You don't get to try it on first. If it intriques you, buy it or go to the library. Don't turn the bookstore into the library. I research my purchases. I'm not gonna spend money on something I don't want, so there's no need to sprawl out and read something to decide if it's good enough to go home with me. I look it up, ask around and decide if I want it or not before I ever get to the bookstore. Either I want it, or I don't. Reading manga in the store doesn't make the decision to buy an informed one.

As for shopping in crowds, I don't like crowds. Not Christmas crowds, not weekend crowds, no crowds at all. I don't bother going out on Friday and Saturday nights to get stuck in crowds of mall rats. There's no rule that says I have to like hopping over people. I don't hop over people in clothes stores who decided to try out pajamas by laying down in the aisle to see how they feel in bed. Nor do I wish to hop over people in bookstores because they'd rather not pay to take it home with them.

Good to know about the p***k part. Next time I won't have to feel remorse for wishing to relieve people of their teeth while they stand/sit/sprawl between me and the book shelf. twisted

I agree to an extent, but I also agree with Kuroi Kokoro no Mendori, because I like to at least read the first 10 pages or so of a manga I'm planning on buying. I do that often, buy manga on a whim. That's how I started Pet Shop of Horrors, hadn't heard of it before but what I read in the bookstore totally sold me. I don't just sit there with 5 manga around me and then leave without buying anything. Those kids who do though, I'm with you on the "kick them in the teeth and step on them thing", because it's always the same ones on Friday and Saturday night, lying in the manga aisle scream

Call me Mendori.

^-^

why teeth?

wouldnt you rather remove the entire face?

Is this going to turn into a discussion, or did you just want to complain and have people complain with you?

See, when I stand around and read an entire manga in the bookstore, I stand up, so that I can get out of people's way WHILE being a cheapass. xd

lol! Exactly! I do the same thing. Or I grab some volumes and find a nice corner away from everyone else.

I don't really mind if people sit by the bookshelf. I've done it from time to time. Sometimes I go into bookstores to kill time before a class or a meeting or something like that. I'll just wander around, look at interesting covers, not planning on buying anything. Then I get interested in something, picked it up and start reading it. Sometimes I've already filled up my quota (I will not allow myself to buy more than four manga at a time, for I am poor) and use the bookstores to read other titles I'm interested in. I'm sure there are people who did it for the same reasons I do, or others.

But you have to move people! It's really great to be able to sit and read that book, right? So how about preserving that luxury? Piss off enough customers and the bookstore might change their rules so as not to lose business!
People act like it's their right and not a privilege. Those rude idiots are the ones that ruin it for everyone else. They should be kicked.

(nods) Yeah, I agree. Normally in my bookstore, the aisles are aleady thin enough that it is fairly hard for one TO lie on the floor, but people have done it. Normally, I don't buy a manga unless I have already seen the anime or have read the manga from the library/a friend. When I DO skim a manga, normally I just open to random pages to see if I like the art style and read a couple of word bubbles to see if the grammar/spelling is all good...

Exactly, and though I do stand in the aisles for this, I don't read the entire book in one sitting. And the part that drives me the most crazy is when they turn around and don't buy the damn book even though they've just cracked the spine beyond repair.

I read most of the first volume, and than if I'm interested I'll buy it, and start buying the other ones of that series without reading them. I agree with you, for the most part, that people who just sit in the aisles and read as if it their territory is rude, especially if they removed their shoes. I disagree with you because you said:

Buying books is like buying a sweater. They allow us to look at the books, and offer us places to sit, because they want us to chose and pick something that we enjoy. xD They're not all evil.. Some bookstores care. When I go to my bookstore, they allow everyone to sit, drink coffee, and slowly chose something to read/buy.
If they didn't want us to read the books before we bought them, they would seal them up in a clear wrapping. I've noticed that some bookstores do that with Special Edition copies of a specific magazine, or magazines not appropriate for youth. When they do that, it is clear they are trying to send the message: "Sorry.. But if you want it, you have to buy it."

That's a very good point. If the bookstore doesn't want us to read it, seal it up! Even the rudest people aren't going to take the seal off, because they might be seen and then they'd have to (horror of horrors!) BUY the book. =O

But yeah. If we're not allowed to read them, don't let us read them. And if the bookstore DOES let us read them, then who are you to say we can't?

In related news, I'm buying Gravitation later today. Online. Does that seem a little rude to you, considering that last week, I read the entire series at the bookstore, and then left without buying anything? twisted

I don't think people should sit there and read the whole thing, and just walk out without buying anything. But I have no problem with people wanting to read the first chapter to see if it's any good. Just like a sweater, you wouldn't buy it without making sure it fits you first, would you? I know alot of times I'll go into the bookstore, just wanting to find something new to pick up and read, so I'll browse for a little bit.

But I do agree with you on the whole sitting in the aisles thing...every bookstore I've been to has chairs and stuff to sit on, so there really isn't any reason to sit there...

I know what you mean about people getting in the way, but I do it myself. Last time I went buying manga I went with a list and got in everyone's way searching for something yaoi... Although I must say I didn't settle in for the duration and take my shoes off! Lol.

The worst thing I find in bookshops is people with prams, I know they can't help it, but... nobody can get past the bloody things!

Completely not true. Lots of yaoi titles come in plastic wrap. And guess what? People unwrap them! People don't give a s**t about making porn available to kids. They'd rather just get their kicks and leave, regardless of the fact that this stuff is now available for anyone who happens to pick it up. They do that with both yaoi and hentai-ish titles that have been shrink wrapped for content. People don't care.

I'm a PAYING customer. I can complain about you if I want. It's a free country. You don't have the right to read manga in a book store. It's a privelage not a right. I, on the other hand, do have the right to air my opinions.

You, on a whole, offend me. You're just plain rude and ignorant. It's one thing to say that you read it and are now buying it just to prove your point, it's another thing altogether to actually put down the money to back yourself up. You just like being an a*****e. That's fine. I can see that it's working wonders for you. Because everybody loves an a*****e.
