~~~~~ A broken gasp escaped the dark figure as it rose from the murky depths of the lake. Air was an unusual occurence for the naiad; she much preferred her watery hideaway. The dryness up on land was uncomfortable, her indigo skin itched and burned cold as the wind whipped away the last droplets of water.
Why the hermit would leave her shell was anyone's guess. Ever since her 'son' had started staying away from the coral bed for extended periods of time, Belisma had finally understood just how alone she had been before she had plucked the shiny pearl from the beach. It was surprising and then again completely logical that one notice how different life is from moment to moment. Alone was now imbearable but yet still welcoming.
The naiad sighed in frustration, a hot tear rolling down one cheek. Her skin felt momentary relief, only to be worsened by the briny remainder left after the moisture was gone. Belisma tried to push the wet heavy locks of ebonly hair from her forehead, only to spread it, still clinging to her skin. Topworld sucked. But then so did the lake now.
The femme's shoulders trembled then quaked as she fell to the sand, her body racked with sobs of frustration and fear. How had she lost control of her life? Why had she even changed? She wondered why the Guardians even bothered to evolve someone so useless. Her cries of anguish were met with only the sounds of the night, the toads and crickets unable to console her.
