Let me take but a moment to whisk you away
And tell of the magic that happens today
For tonight, at Midsummer's Eve, my friend
The wonders shall strike from every end
Where I am from, Midsummer's Eve is a fairly big deal. And in ancient days, it was especially known as the evening of wonders. The Nixie would come out to play, fairies could be seen dancing, all sorts of things that never seemed possible on any other night would suddenly come true.
Why? Because this was the longest day of the year, when it comes to hours of light. Now, the date has been swapped around some over the years, so it may not always fall on the actually correct date anymore. But this year, Midsummer's Eve is celebrated today, on the 19th of June.
What I intend to share with you, is an old tradition. While there are many different instructions for it, this is what I grew up with, and have followed (or at least attempted to) in the past:
At night, young girls (and boys too of course, this is not the 14th century people) go out to pick flowers. Seven different flowers, from seven different places. All done in utter silence. They then return to their beds, and place this special bouquet under their pillows. Then, at night, they will dream of the one their true love, that they shall one day meet and never be parted with.
Nonsensical or not, it is a lovely tradition, in my opinion at least. And I do encourage any curious darlings out there to try it. And if you do, I would love to hear what you've dreamed of. Maybe snap a little picture of your pretty flowers too? Either way, have a lovely day, evening and night. emotion_bigheart
