Affirmed Faith
It seems America is in a state of denial. People that claim to be Evangelical Christians are simply paraphrasing scripture in order to meet their needs or even defend their beliefs? Recently, country singer Carrie Underwood stated "God loves everyone" and later implied that since this is true, homosexuality is fine. After reading that, I had to ask: has she even read the Bible? It preaches against homosexuality several times. The sin of Sodom and Gomorrah was homosexuality. Do you know what happened to them? The people of Sodom were burned to death. Homosexuality is a sin.

But as a Christian, we must remember our goal is not to change homosexuals to heterosexuality; it is to lead them to Christ. Afterwards, He may completely remove their desire for the same sex or they may still struggle. But it is up to him. We respond with love.

There are many (so called) Evangelical Christians today who say that homosexuality is okay and it is not a sin. That is very strange since Jesus Himself affirms the Old Testament word by defining marriage as one woman, one man.

"But Jesus loves everyone! So it must be okay. He'll still accept them into Heaven." In that case, there would be no point in Jesus dying on the cross; because Jesus loves everyone.
See the problem with that is Jesus loves murders, serial killers, rapists, and others. You know why? Be cause they are all sinners. Jesus' love for them does not justify their sin. If that were the case, killers should be allowed to murder anyone they please.

Someone who is not a creationist may say "I don't believe in god. Without using scripture, explain to me why homosexuality should not be allowed." Well, for one thing, if anyone can simply redefine marriage as they see fit, who's to say a father marrying his daughter is wrong? His son? Or bestiality? In 2006 a woman in England married a dolphin. In South Dakota, a woman married herself. There are set boundaries to marriage in society because without them, society itself would fall. Or to be even simpler, if you don't believe in a god (or God) that is sovereign then there is no absolute truth. So who are you to argue Christians are wrong if your only defense for why gay marriage is okay is your feelings? Keep in mind feelings a subjective and not permanent. You now have no basis for being right or wrong. Simply, you "feel". No God, no absolute truth. No wrong; no right. No good; no evil. And that, is a scary thought.

This statement is almost too common: "Science proves homosexuality is genetic and people can be born gay/bisexual/trans." Uhm... No. Science has not confirmed that at all. However, a study with identical twins was taken. The probability of the other twin being gay if the first twin is gay was 53%. If homosexuality was genetic, the probability should be 100% since they share the same genetic material. And to the point that people are "born" gay; infants aren't even aware of the sexes; let alone their differences. So no.

We need to be affirmed in our faith and by our faith as Christians. People say you can't legislate morality. That's incorrect. The only thing you can legislate is morality. It is just a matter of whose morality gets legislated.

As we face public scrutiny, remember that God is the only person you should care to impress; not our fallen world.

Amen. It astonishes me how so many people will say they believe the Bible, and yet completely look over certain parts that don't fit with what they like. If you don't pay attention to the entire Bible, but you pick and choose what sounds "good" to your ears, and what you will listen to, where's your foundation? Where's the foundation that keeps you firm?

I second that Amen.

It's difficult to accept their attitude even though I know Jesus said narrow is the way, so there will be many disobedient ones with a Christian label walking the broad path. Paul said times would come when people would not put up with sound doctrine, instead turning aside to fables and doctrines of demons (which from what I can see are gnostic texts, gospel of Barnabas, New Age Jesus or even the "Galactic Federation of Light" Jesus who gets channeled by a medium/channeller). Our Heavenly Father's word is proving true. The apostasy is sad, but at the same time I'm happy that God's word is showing itself to be trustworthy. I'm not ashamed of his revelation: it is divine, it is the truth, and prophecy is unfolding. Trying times lie ahead and I pray that I never reject him or any of his commands. Homosexuality is a sin. It states in Leviticus, thou shall not lie with a man, as with a woman.

1 Corinthians 6:9

Don't you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don't fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality,

.. on the contrary....you yourselves wrong and defraud. You do this even to your brethren. 9Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.…

I grew up between two households:

1. In my father's house, even as a 7 year old, alcohol was okay. Smoking wasn't good for you, but everyone did it. There were no "bad" words, because they were all commonly used. Drugs were a common things in this house. The people in that household abused pot, crack, ecstasy, and whatnot. Christians were closed-minded and named various curse words. In this household, we accept everyone as they are.

2. In my mother's house, everything was a sin. If you drew on the table or walls it was a sin because it was disobedient to the parent's rules and disobeying them was sinning against God. Alcohol is still, to this day, not something a Christian can partake in, bad words are the devil, and smoking is going to kill you. In this household, the gays, the sexually immoral, the alcoholics are all unwelcome.

From this I have grown to L O V E. One of my very best friends is homosexual. For a long time he was going to counseling at our church and trying to fight his "tendencies". He was serving in the church as a leader for Jr High and HS ministries and interpreting for the deaf 3 days a week, for 5 services. He loves the Lord with his whole heart and would follow him to the ends of the earth.

However, because the church found that he stopped going to counseling and accepted the fact that he was homosexual, they exiled him. He is no longer allowed to serve in the church.

To me this breaks my heart! I understand what the Bible says about homosexuality (it treats it the same way as lying and heterosexual actions outside of marriage), but this man is exiled! He understands the Bible to its extent better than I do. He participates in intellectual discussions about the Bible and the end times and about worship and why He loves it, this man has understanding. What he has chosen is between him and God.

I guess in all of this I am trying to say that so many of this generation's christians do not know Love. "Beloved, let us LOVE one another for LOVE is from GOD and whoever LOVES has been born of GOD and knows GOD. Anyone who does not LOVE does not know GOD because GOD IS LOVE." 1 John 4:7-8 ESV

There's my soapbox on loving those who are sinning.

I do agree with all that has been said, and while I am not sure what the first poster was referring to about Carrie Underwood, because she is right in saying God loves everyone, but whether or not she was making a statement that homosexuality is alright I don't know I haven't seen said article. My campus ministry actually talked about this last night, and yes homosexuality is a sin and yes we shouldn't treated as anything but that. However they are still a human being and we should still be loving and bring to them to Christ. As for whether or not the government should recognize their marriages, we need to be careful, if we allow our religion to be mixed into politics we lose a lot of our rights as the church. Despite common belief America wasn't exactly founded on Christian principles, as it was actually founded more along the lines of deist principles. So separation of church and state is to actually protect us from government interfering, which is what they can do if we allow politics and Christianity to mix like it is now. So even they do legalize it they cant tell us to marry them, just like they cant tell the Islamic, and Jewish faith to marry them. Sorry for rambling slightly but that is my view, and most of the people in my campus ministry think as well, and we are non-denominational.

Leviticus 18:22 calls homosexuality an abomination and that is exactly what it is.
