Seriously. My brothers are more into video games and such, which don't always have something good being released, but can be priced from $40-60 a game, which I use to always thing was too expensive...
That was of course, before I got into anime and manga. They almost always have something new/good out and the prices can be rather on the hefty side. Manga pricing around $10 per volume and Anime ranging in great differences depending on the particular titles.
Example: Fairy Tail Collection 1 - $32 One Piece Season 1 Voyage 1 - $20 Gurren Lagann Special Collectors set - $140
Such prices and they almost always have something of interest out and yet my brothers still complain that their interests are so expensive...

And worse when you buy stuff from conventions.
When I was an anime addict (still watch it just don't spend thousands on it anymore) cons were hell for me. I would want pretty much everything.
But now my addiction once again is video games. I just shelled out $100 (Canadian) for Pokemon X and Y that included the help guide and game play thingy (if your game doesn't work you can bring it back and get a new one)

I'm pretty sure I'd be broke within the first hour....then again, I don't have a lot of free money. Sadly, there aren't a lot of video games lately that catch my interest. Add that with all the fuss with the new consoles and I just don't wanna get involved with them at the moment. (though my want for the WiiU is increasing) Question: Why'd you get both? Is it because one game normally has pokemon the other doesn't?

I guess I'm lucky that my hobby mostly consisted of yu-gi-oh cards with the occasional dose of magic

Zan Ichiraku I guess I'm lucky that my hobby mostly consisted of yu-gi-oh cards with the occasional dose of magic Well, depends on how often you get them and how many you get. I use to collect Yu-gi-oh, but when I stopped having people to play against, I stopped. As for Magic, that's more of an occasional expense, since I like the decks I have and since I don't play tournament rules, I don't have to upgrade them every block or so.

Yeeah anime and manga make for an expensive habit, I agree. But at least it's possible to get up to 25 episodes per collection of One Piece for about $40, which isn't too bad, I guess.
Manga, on the other hand, $20 a volume sad
