[ Premise/Foreword ]
The kingdom of Euthenia at the western coast of the Aglaean continent has been extremely successful over the past few decades. No major wars, no plagues, no droughts... they've only grown richer and more powerful. Still, they considered themselves enlightened, and had no militaristic ambitions beyond defense. As such, their population grew and grew over time, to the point of reaching a capacity threshold.
Following the advice of his counselors, the wise King Freyr II sent forth explorers to find new uninhabited lands for his people to expand to. One mad explorer decided to sail westward across the ocean - no one expected her to return, for everyone knew the ocean was infinitely vast and nothing exited beyond the western coasts of the twin continents. When she returned with news of an otherwise uninhabited island a mere 20 days' travel west by northwest, they thought her mind lost... until she revealed a shining sapphire the size of her head. No gems of that magnitude exited these days outside of royal treasuries, so people suddenly began to realize the truth.
King Freyr II has commissioned several passenger vessels to transport settlers to this new land. Nothing but hardship would await those willing to partake of this extreme change on behalf of the good of the kingdom, though settlers of this new land would be free of any tax. As such, volunteers began to line up as soon as the impact had hit the populace.
The only ones allowed to relocate would be those with a useful trade to help create the initial construction of this Ponos settlement upon the Tyche isle, named after the captain who found it. Carpenters, smiths, farmers, lumberjacks, tailors... oh! And anyone who would help secure the safety of the settlement by ridding this island of any pre-existing dangers. That's you guys.
[ Setting Information/Background ]
You have just arrived with the second group of settlers at Ponos settlement; most of the basics have already been set up. Lodging is a bit... unaccommodating presently, but we're working on it! All of you reside in temporary lodging houses meant to accommodate workers and new arrivals until more permanent housing arrangements can be constructed (and earned via lottery). It might not be glorious but it keeps all the most of the some of the mosquitoes out.
There are soldiers of the King stationed here as well, and they help maintain the defenses of the colony. As such, the only thing they've ran afowl of thus far is overly curious, overly LARGE fauna following the scent of food into the settlement. Beyond supplementing the few guards that are here, you are to assist explorers in mapping the island and ridding it of any remaining dangers that might still be lurking about - just in case. For the most part, anything you find you get to keep.
[ Character Creation ]
You aren't some kind of tenderfoot, or else you wouldn't be going on this settlement opportunity. You're able to prove yourself and earn your position exploring Tyche Isle, and as such, you are 3rd level.
