I think people have been manipulated because of their ignorance of the scriptures. Notice as well how our "Kings" don't go out and fight anymore, unlike the bible where the Monarch would be out in the battlefield risking his life along with the lives of his people. That is sign of corruption #1. If you—as your nations' leader—are going to support war, you better suit up and go out there with them.
Having said that, I don't think any of what Yeshua taught supports the idea of warring against the nations in his absence. While he is gone, we are suppose to help the rest of humanity reconcile with the Father, we are suppose to be a light to the nations, speaking the truth in love—not by sword. So any physical fighting done in his name (in the name of or for the sake of "Christianity") is an oxymoron. Take for example the Book of Galatians, written around 48-50 AD; It tells us:

Yet, the Crusades happen somewhere between 1000-1300 AD. What happened? Why did the Pope
bless something whose very nature goes against what Yeshua and his apostles taught? The excuse was that Christians should have access to Jerusalem because that's where Yeshua is from and the Muslims were impeding them. I hope you're picking up on the hypocrisy here: they didn't want
anything to do with the Jews and their sabbaths (that are biblical BTW, it's not a jewish thing per se; it's YHWH's calendar), yet they want access to Jersusalem because of the Jewish roots of their faith? ... What? They want to share the geography, but hold no respect for the spiritual roots (which are infinitely more valuable and still hold significance)? So, as I see it, none of this is spiritually-motivated.
Spiritual edification is the last thing on their mind (power and money being the foremost).
As a rule of thumb, if they see nothing wrong in altering YHWH's instructions (and
replacing them with man-made ones), they probably don't really care about "religion", they're not thinking from a spiritual place, but a carnal one. Their God is Mammon/the material world, not YHWH.

The greatness of YHWH is that he even bothers to stay loyal to us despite all of our malfunctioning. He's willing to fix us (our hearts, our emotions and attitudes towards each other) no matter how many times we slap his hand away. But he does warn there will come a time when the offer is off the table, and all who set their heart on doing evil will be wiped. Then, the New Earth will come where only the righteous dwell. No tears, no pain, no aging, just righteousness and love, living in his presence. That sounds great to me and he wants everyone to be there. The only thing keeping them back is their love for this world and its carnal desires like greed, anger, and lust. Or they fell for a lie, a path that does not lead to his Kingdom which is why we are called to be a light; just like he was a light for our path, we need to be a light for them. Help them find the path (in love, not by sword).
