Read the poll, pick an answer.
Rules, work in progress.
Characters will be standard 4e characters. Use a 22 pt. point buy, with standard equipment for a character of that level (one magic item of your level +1, one magic item of your level, one magic item of your level -1, and enough gold equal to a magic item of your level -1). Characters start at 7th level.
The following source books are allowed for characters: Player's Handbook 1, Player's Handbook 2, Player's Handbook 3, Martial Power 1+2, Arcane Power, Divine Power, Primal Power, Psionic Power, Forgotten Realms Player's Guide, Eberron Player's Guide, Heroes of the Feywild, Heroes of Shadow, Heroes of the Forgotten Kingdom, Heroes of the Fallen Lands Adventurer's Vault, Adventurer's Vault 2, Mordenkainen's Magnificent Emporium. (If a specific book is wanted and not listed, ask.)
Banned Material: Hybrids. Backgrounds. Themes. All sources not named.
As per the original Coliseum, teams will choose monsters for their opponents to fight using Monster Manual, Monster Manual 2, Monster Manual 3, and Monster Vault. I'm still working on the rules how you'll pick out monsters,
As for the teams themselves, only one of each 'class' will be allowed on teams, and they'll either have to be comprised entirely of one race or not have any duplicate races. Once you have your team, elect a Team Captain and have them PM me with your team name and the character sheets for all players part of the team.
After each battle, every participating player will gain the following benefits: 1. All their HPs will be restored to maximum. 2. Their Encounter powers (and items providing Encounter effects) will be restored. 3. All ammo/thrown weapons/dropped or damaged equipment will be restored/replenished/repaired. Expendables such as potions and the such are not.
After every even level battle, every participating players will gain the following benefits: 1. Gain an action point.
After each battle, every participating player THAT SURVIVES will gain ONE of the following benefits, of their choice: 1. Restore all their healing surges 2. Restore all their Daily powers (and items providing Daily effects). Wizards may alter their prepared Daily/Utility spells with this option. 3. Re-equip their character with the standard starting equipment for a character of their new level (and replacing their item Daily effects as well). 4. Retrain their character. They must keep their Race, Class, and Equipment, but any other class-related features and feats may be switched, as well as swapping ability scores around. Powers of the respective levels remain expended. You cannot retrain any powers or feats by leveling, since you do not have the time to do so. 5. Gain another action point.
Ammunition will be managed as follows: Every time you roll a natural 1 while attacking with the weapon in question, roll a d10. If you used Shuriken, a set of 5 is lost/used up if you fail to roll 9+. If you used a Crossbow or Sling, a case/pouch of 20 is lost/used up if you fail to roll a 6+. If you used a Bow, a quiver of 30 is lost/used up if you fail to roll a 4+. Magical ammunition will be recorded normally. Note, that this is only a concern over the course of a round, and is replenished post-battle as per rule 7.

Yes, with changes: I want to see someone else's take on the coliseum.
Life has gotten busy for me recently, so I never got around to finishing the creation of Coliseum 2.0. Part of it was when I started, our active membership was a bit low (that's less so now, it seems). But I want to see a DIFFERENT view on it, so I can perhaps learn from it myself.
The reason I had chosen it to be a team PvE coliseum was because otherwise, play strikers and that's it; defenders wouldn't have a reason to mark, controllers would be at a disadvantage, and a leader has no one to buff. My incomplete Coliseum 2.0 was back to individuals with an option to team up, and would play more like Super Smash TV. Because, if you're going to get inspiration from a video game, you might as well turn the dial to 11.
I still plan on running it in the future, but probably only after I move into my new house for good. A lot less distractions then. And after you complete yours.

Absolute Virtue I want to hear more. smile Well, my real name is Robert. I'm a Gemini, currently working in a casino in the state of Connecticut. My hobbies include tabletop roleplaying games, tabletop wargames, listening to power metal, Touhou, anime, science fiction, horror, the supernatural, and nature. I'm a big animal person, but I'm an avid fan of cats. I'm 6' even, 155 lbs, caucasian, with brown hair and blue eyes. I have mixed ancestry, but my German tends to stand out the most.

A different view on it, eh? And here, from an outside perspective, I think your take on it was pretty damn good. If you plan on running it again, perhaps I won't. It just seemed with everything on your plate, it had fallen to the wayside in favor of other unique ideas running amok in your head.

Though in all seriousness, I loved the last coliseum. It was possibly my favourite game I've played on this guild. We should definitely bring it back. I'm not sure PvP would work, unless it's minimum of 3 persons per team. Even vs monsters, I'm not sure I'd like it 1v1. 4E just isn't designed for that. Tried it with 3.5 (when Rain killed me in 1 hit...), but even then it works better as a team.

That is, there HAS to be one striker, one defender, one leader, one controller. Perhaps not as an elimination, but as point-scoring rounds. Perhaps even made up with some monster teams to flesh out a bracket or something, to mix it up a bit.

Regardless of what I or you do, four isn't quite enough people, so I'm going to give this thread a couple days still. I need to figure out a relatively easy and reliable way to make maps still, anyways. Assuming interest grows, I'll determine character creation rules and the like. I am fairly set on PvE though, which doesn't seem to be a problem.

I like the idea of it leading towards pvp (like I think the first coliseum was heading towards if it didn't end as it did). Maybe the last two teams standing go head to head or something of a similar nature?
I like point scoring rounds, but there'd have to be a pretty solid method of doing it. For example, you couldn't do it based solely off of how many rounds you take, there were many games last time where people wouldn't even see the enemies until round 4/5. I really liked that aspect of the game, where it mixed up the locations and the settings. Perhaps something along the lines of amount of attacks, but then it could cater to strikers too much, meaning if you want to win all the characters on your team would have to be pseudo-strikers.
I'm really not helping... This is why I'm not putting my name forward to GM. sweatdrop

Unless there is complaint from Rain, the rules will be similar to his Coliseum with some changes minor changes specifically allowed sources.
I'll edit the first post. Once we get enough stated interest, I'll be changing the poll as well, to vote on team size. The possibility for PvP will be there as rounds advance but it will be primarily PvE.I have a fair chunk of gold lying around(30mil, just about), so I may figure out some sort of prize.
For those who care, save logging in for this guild, I've practically quit Gaia. This has kept me from doing so completely though.

This would be my sheet so far, just checking to see if there's anything wrong before I head off to bed. I'll add the fluffy details when I get the mechanical stuff finished. Alana, Elf Ranger
