Our Lives Intertwined

User Image

Remember the day we met? Felt like it was a dream, considering everything that happened around us. You took me in as your friend and never let go, neither did I. I guess you would call it fate that I found you that day, that you saved me from myself and the life I had, teaching me that I am special no matter what. I guess you could say our lives were intertwined into one, helping us get through the good times and the bad.

I keep my powers hidden from them, but in school, I can't help but show off. Recently, I met a girl that has simply turned me into more of a class clown, but I couldn't care less. A short, red headed girl walks beside a raven haired boy, who seemed to be a couple of inches taller than her. The girl wore a smile, even if they were exiting a school house for kids their age and going home, where she knew she would be a lone. Aimee pushed some of her red hair behind her ear, the one time she had wore her hair down since she came over from France. This was her first friend, the boy who walked beside her, and seemed to watch out for her and taught her everything she knew about the school. The young girl looked up and to the side, making eye contact with her friend. "What are you planning on doing now that school is out? If you want you can come over to my house for a bit, I wouldn't mind the company." The girl's thick French accent was hard to figure out but with the short amount of time that Aimee had known this boy, he had easily picked up on it, which still seemed to boggle her mind.

"I don't know," timidly replied the dark haired young boy that strolled alongside the little woman. Few and far between were his invites to other houses as he kept to himself most, if not, all of the times during school hours. That was when he wasn't causing trouble for the faculty while giving. Unlike the french girl's hair which flowed elegantly like a crimson river, his hair was dry, frizzy and expanded out in what resembled dark explosion. When her eyes loomed over to him, meeting with his half-eyed gaze, he slightly turned away, but kept his vision entwined within her's. "Um, I don't think my mom would mind it at all as long as I called her. How far do you stay from the school?" All the while he spoke, he twiddled his thumbs as if lost deeply in thought.

"Not far down that road there." The red head pointed to a road that stemmed off the one they were walking on now, turning her head back to Roulin as she pointed, a gentle smile on her face. "You can't miss it." The girl lowered her small hand, looking back to the road. When people drove buy, they knew it was a road many people didn't travel down for more than one reason. One would be that is where all the really expensive houses were. Two would be that only three people at most lived on this road, having tons of acres of sprawling pastures and animals, much like a country setting in this big city they lived in. "I'll let you use the phone when we get there." Her eyes closed for a second as she talked, opening soon after with a hazy look in her eye. To him, he only knew where she was from and her name, that's it. The money, her past, and the reason she was here was still a mystery to him, which made her anxious.

As they turned down the road, a electronic box with a key pad on it appeared close to an iron gate. Aimee punched in a code quickly, then looked at the gate, watching it slowly open inwards towards the wooded path. The girl soon started walking again, her hair swaying back and forth in a sunset stream. "Once we get there, don't be afraid to ask for anything. We love having guests, my dad and I. We don't get them often since we live so secluded from everyone else." The girl looked back at Roulin as she talked, her eyes were just as kind as the smile she wore on her porcelain face.

Roulin, as a response to Aimee's words, nodded. Soon after he was tugging at the hemming of his scarf, tightening it around the nape of his neck to guard from the biting cold that blew relentlessly against him. His jacked was also tugged to better cover him, then zipped to his chin for warmth. The child didn't mention it to the girl next to him, but he was excited to be going to a friend's house. He hadn't many friends and those that become his friends went away only a few weeks after. If they were lucky, it took them months to disappear. The recurrent coincidence plagued him, but he was far too young to understand completely what caused it. As a result, the young Italian only saw himself as an outcast. Being invited to another's house made him both hopeful and apprehensive at the same time...

"Thank you for inviting my by the way." They turned and Roulin followed behind Aimee as she led the way to her rather luxurious abode. His eyes widened at the sight of it all, but that soon dulled to just a passing amazement. "And yeah, thanks. Knowing me, I'll probably forget to call. I'll stay out of the way if that's okay. I won't ask for much. And I won't break anything either..." Sheepishly and shyly, his light lavender eyes met her's and he smiled weakly once through the large, dark gates. "Are all French people this rich? Us Italian's aren't as wealthy," said the small Owl scratching his head.

Aimee seemed to stop smiling as Roulin asked about the luxuriousness of their life, the wealth part of it anyway. She barely knew this father and it wasn't in her place to say what kind of life he lived before he adopted her. The girl new the father watched her closely, seeing if she was developing any signs of abnormalities in her daily routines since she just lost her family two weeks before. "Well... I guess I would have to tell you sooner or later..." The girl signed, fiddling with her jacket apprehensively as she thought of where to begin. "This is my adopted father. Truthfully I lived well back in France, but not as well as I do here. I just met this man a week ago and he adopted me..." Her eyes went down to the ground timidly, not knowing his background and afraid that she would be treated differently now. The hard part was telling him what happened to her parents, she hadn't gotten over it yet. "My parents were killed just two weeks ago... So that's why I am here."

The girl soon looked up to view the front of the white mansion, a fountain in the front blocked the view of the front doors. As the two kids walked up the driveway to the doors, the little girl took out a key from her pocket. She put it in the key hole and turned the key, unlocking the door and walking inside. "Well here we are. The phone is over there." The girl put her school bag down and took off her shoes and coat, putting the coat on the rack next to the door. "Your shoes and coat can go here, a long with your scarf. I can tell you are cold. You want some hot chocolate?" Aimee walked past Roulin into the right side of the house, which led to the vast kitchen. "Again, if you are hungry, just ask or you can get it yourself." She stood on her toes and took out two mugs, which she put under a tea maker which poured in hot water for the hot chocolate.

Running his fingers through somber tuft of hair atop his head in wonder, the young boy's mouth hung agape as he walked into Aimee's lavish home. If he didn't express it though words, his features which gleamed excitedly telegraphed just how he felt. Though the paintings on the were rather intriguing in their design and subjects, the young mind of the boy was still brought back to reality by the sound of Aimee's voice. His lips sealed and as the young girl went on, he nodded. His half-eyed stare widened when she revealed to him that she was adopted. The circumstances on the other hand was something that would surely tug at his mind and heartstrings on his way home. "That's something. You're happy where you are right now though right?" he asked after patting her back and then removing his shoes, coat and scarf. "You said it yourself. You have a better living here than you did back in France. I wish I could say the same though. I was adopted, but I think I'd have a better life with my real mother and father."

Across the floor the young Owl skated to drop off his shoes and other things, then he went to the phone and called his mother. Her voice was sickly and only gave a glimpse as to how sick she truly was. Still, Roulin wore a smile and kept his eyes on Aimee, his new friend whom he hoped wouldn't vanish as his other ones did. When the talk was over, he looked at her prepare him the hot chocolate. He was a bit on the cold side as Aimee noticed. A cup of what she was preparing would do him well. "I'm sorry to hear about your parents though...your real ones. I don't want to pry or anything, but were you told anything about how they were killed? And what do you remember about them?"
PostPosted: Fri Apr 06, 2012 9:58 pm

Aimee seemed to think while she pulled out the bags of hot chocolate mix from the cabinet next to the stove, her eyes on the tea maker as it finished filling up one cup. "I watched them get killed. My mom was shot in the head while my dad was shot in the heart. I don't understand because they. We're amazing people and they were always happy. The cops said it was because they were different, caused trouble and such." Her eyes seemed to well up with tears, that is till she wiped them away on the back of her hand. She replaced the filled cup with an empty one, letting the tea maker fill that one up as well. The little girl then poured in the hot chocolate mix, stirring it slowly as she thought about her next move. "Can I tell you something? You promise not to tell anyone?" The girl stopped what she was doing and looked at Rou, her eyes red from crying.

The girl picked up a knife from the open utensil drawer, cutting her hand a little in the center of her palm and showing the blood and cut to Roulin. "See. Now look." She wipes away the blood on a paper towel, showing her friend her hand again, this time the blood was gone and there was no cut on her hand. "I heal faster than everyone else, plus it apparently works on other people. I don't understand this as well. But I haven't told anyone else but you, I consider you my best friend now." The girl brings over the cup of hot chocolate to Roulin, giving it to him. "Enough about me. What about you and your past?"

Roulin had taken his seat in front of a television that had already been turned on. The news was on. What was being covered was an attempted robbery in a convenience store by some masked figure. Only the man's height was given, but everything else remained a mystery about him. When the remote was found, he surfed the channel looking for something to watch. It was nearing the time for a programming block he knew as Toonami. The channel was set and now, he awaited the hot chocolate while Aimee gave her bio. "Hmmm. As my mom would say, that's just low-lifed. I don't think they took you into account when they did what they did. I doubt they even thought about what would happen to them." The young man was already a firm believer in justice and equality for all and showed in his bright lavender eyes.

Aimee called his attention to something and he nodded giving her his promise. As his interest grew, he turned around on the couch, sitting on his knees, and watched her display commence. He cringed as the knife pierced the palm of her hand, but in mere moments, he was grinning. When he viewed her power taking effect, he immediately understood just why. She, like he, was an Owl. He was overjoyed and even stood from the couch to inspect her power even closer. "That's...amazing Aimee. I haven't had an Owl as a friend in a while actually. Let alone a best friend or someone I could visit."

Without realizing it, he'd taken the girl's hand in his and was staring down into the clear area where she'd cut herself to heal. As he said before, his eyes hadn't seen another Owl power in a good while. Her's, although hardly offensive or flashy as many other powers, was still something he found himself interested in. His eyes wandered up to her when she asked about his past and he gulped and shyly, he rubbed his head as his palms began to sweat. "My past?" the young, amethyst eyed boy began. "My past is...boring I guess. I don't know. I was adopted, my stepfather went away to fight in some war, my mother...eh. My real parents vanished before I was born, so unlike you, I've never met my real parents. All I know is that they're alive. Somewhere."
PostPosted: Sat Apr 07, 2012 4:37 pm

Aimee was taken aback by Roulin's sudden interest in her hand, or this so called power he spoke of. "An.. Owl?" Her eyes were confused, not knowing anyone besides her parents that had weird abnormalities besides her. The girl watched as her friend seemed to become anxious as he told her his past, his parents an all, how they were a live somewhere, but he didn't know. "I am sure you will find them. Sooner or later." The girl smiled and hugged her best friend, letting go soon after.

The red head sat down on the couch, looking at Roulin for a second as she thought. "My father, when he would get mad and walk near any electronic device, the device would short circuit and catch on fire. I remember also, when he was mad at me, that when I touched his hand I felt a shock. Then again, I never paid attention to it because of my so called 'powers'. If you know about powers, then you must have one too. What is it?" She pats the couch next to her for her new friend to sit down.

"An Owl! You know, an Other World Life? It's what we're referred to in the papers and on the news," replied Roulin, his head tilted slightly in confusion. Aimee's mind hadn't been touched by the generalization that was the acronym Owl and it's connotations among society. At this point now, it seemed to be a slur, but in realty, it was just what they were. Humans with powers. After she went on to give him a bit of solace in the search for his parents and hugged him, he hugged her back, then sat next to her on the couch. As she spoke, he listened, his interest not allowing him to break eye contact with her.

Her father's power drew more of his interest and his eyes shined all the while she went on. The young Italian had never spoken to another Owl like this before so the moment to him was like an interview with Aimee as the subject. "The only other Owl I've known known is my brother Moli. I don't know if I told you already, but all my friends tend to move away after meeting me..." said young Roulin, his eye sight finally parting with her's. "I don't know if it's me or if it's them, but they always leave just as start to work on homework together and stuff. Since we're best friends now, you won't leave either will you?"
PostPosted: Sun Apr 08, 2012 9:42 am

Aimee seemed to be taken aback that anyone would leave this boy, to move away after a couple of days or weeks. The red head smiled gently and moved closer to him, wrapping her pinky around his. "I promise that I will never leave you like the others. I don't want to leave you. You've helped me already." The girl released the raven haired boy's hand, her eyes never leaving his. This little boy had helped her realize that what was going on with her was normal, that some people had other powers as well.

"Well since I am an Owl, which still seems to make sense to me, I guess I should make my power better. Oh and I forgot to tell you, I make straight A's in school. I'll help you with anything you need." Aimee was almost like a bundle of joy, she couldn't hold in feeling happy. Her personalty was always bubbly but now, she was excited to have a best friend that wanted her there. The red head put down her hot chocolate and stood, looking at Roulin. "Wanna tour of the house?" Not even waiting, the little girl walked out of the living room to the main foyer, walking up one of the stairs.

Roulin nodded silently once more after Aimee wrapped her pinky around his. His face gleamed brightly with excitement at the prospect that she wouldn't be leaving as he other friend had mysteriously done. Part of him wanted to hug her again, but the other part wanted to leave the house. He was happy still knowing she'd promised to stay longer than most, but the nagging thought of her disappearing still loomed over him. Until then, he may as well made the best of his time.

"You should. All the stronger Owls have become masters of their powers. I want to master my power one d---...my power is tele--telek...I can move things with my mind. It changes sometimes," admitted the child. "I can't explain it...hey, wait up!" Starting to run behind the girl, Roulin's hot chocolate swished in it's cup, but it remained calm enough to not fall onto the carpet below. After turning a corner, he was behind her in the stairwell. "I don't think I have a choice. Is your room up here or down there?"
